Question for Jen

Jen,

A few months ago you advised me to use presentation paper as a base for hybrid projects and I see you saying it over and over again here at SSD.
But the problem is, I can't find it anywhere here in Holland.

So where do you buy it in America? At a webshop? I saw Amazon has something but not in A4. And which brand?

Thanks for helping me...maybe buying in US is an option for me?

You can also get their text and graphics paper which is what I and Andrea both use. I love it and it comes in two different weights and it's cheaper than the brochure paper as well.

I am willing to spend a little money, but I don't want to order everything.

Hi Leontine! Sorry it took so long for me to see this, but it looks like several ladies helped you out.

I do purchase mine at OfficeMax here in Hawaii, which is pretty much the same thing as Staples. So, if you found it at Staples I'm sure it's fine!

And just to clarify, I don't seem to see a difference between brands (store / generic brands versus name brands). Some of them call it "Presentation" paper and some of them call it "Brochure" paper, but it all seems to print up about the same. I think what you'll want to look for is MATTE and DOUBLE-SIDED, then either the Presentation OR the Brochure paper would be fine. I typically just buy whatever brand is cheapest or on sale (or sometimes for me living in Hawaii it's more likely what they have in stock as that's often a problem for me).

Oh, and just a reminder, because I really can't stress enough how important this is - when you print, be sure to change the PAPER TYPE settings to reflect the type of paper you're printing on. Again, it might not match EXACTLY the paper you buy (presentation / brochure), but you should be able to select something close and at least select and either presentation or brochure. This makes such a big difference in vibrancy of color!!

As for the weight of my paper, the paper I'm using now is the Epson brand (I don't usually get this brand because it tends to be more expensive for me, but it was on sale last time) and it says it's 48lb / 179g/m2 - I'm not sure what that means or how it translates to your question?? It's not as thick as cardstock, that's for sure, but it's heavier than regular printer paper. You'll notice that most of my projects (especially cards and stuff) I go ahead and use regular cardstock as a base and any solid colored mats and stuff, those are usually cardstock as well. This allows me to use a little bit more economical printer paper (because the colors are just as good), but still have that nice heavier cardstock weight to my finished project - it doesn't feel or look flimsy or anything. My style of hybrid works well for this though - I print out each individual piece of paper and element individually and cut it out and adhere it separately - I don't ever print out a flattened project and then put that on a card front. I use my digi papers just like I would store-bought patterned paper. I print them out and cut them up and adhere them like I would any other physical supply. But that's just my personal style. Some people go ahead and do a lot of their design work in photoshop, then print out an almost finished project and then just add a ribbon or other embellishment (so the papers are layered in photoshop, THEN printed). I do my layering physically AFTER printing and cutting out all the individual papers. Does that make sense?? But that also helps to give the finished project extra weight.

Anywhere else in the world Staples is a normal office supply store that anyone can go into and buy, here it is different, while you cannot physically go into their store without a KVK number you can order online with them.

As for the weight of the paper, I use both...just depends on what I want to do with it at the time. For most embellies I use the 160gr. but if I'm printing out papers for a LO then I use the 120gr. I'd be happy to send a couple of sheets of each so you can choose which you prefer. Just let me know.

We're heading out the door to go to Arnhem right now. Going to go see Iron Maiden...not my fave band in the world, but was a b-day present for DH and he's all excited. I'm such a good little wife sometimes...LOL

Wolf was so kind to send me a few sheets! Thanks Wolf.

But I guess I am doing something wrong here....if I print on photopaper the colours are really vibrant. Red is really red.
But printed on the paper she sent me it isn't. I have a Photosmart 3 in 1 printer from HP and I selected HP Brochure paper, mat. And quality as maximum dpi.

I can't really make cards on photopaper now can I? That doesn't look good either...yes, the colours, but the rest?

Can you take a photo and show me what you've printed and possibly a screenshot of your print settings so I can see what else you've got going on?

Off the top of my head I can think of a couple issues you might have. You should choose "ander brochurepapier" instead of HP, because that is definitely not HP paper...and possibly another adjustment "afdrukqualiteit" should be set to normaal or best.

Another thing to keep in mind is that this is a matte paper so it's never going to bright and shiny like photo paper.

I know it's not glossy but I like my colours a little brighter though. If I see Jen's blog, she doesn't have that problem.
My printer can be the problem also....but I thought Jen had a Photosmart also before she bought a new printer.
