Default CS3 Question

I asked this on DST, but was wondering if some of you gals knew.

I just got CS3 and I'm having a hard time transitioning from PSE. I can't figure out how to do Group with Previous. On PSE you just do Apple G (or Ctrl G for PC users). Anyone know how to do that is CS3?

TIA!

Ash

Do you mean clipping the layer to the layer below? It switched after PS CS to CMD (apple key) + ALT + G.

I use PSE6 but I think I've read somewhere that in CS3 you do Alt-Ctrl-G to clip layers together.

Yes, it's Ctrl+Alt+G

BUT you can go and change that in your settings to be Ctrl+G...I know when I was moving to CS from PSE, it was hard for me to remember that one. If you want to know how to do it, let me know and I'll walk you through it.

ETA...another shortcut for it is to hold down ALT and at the same time hover your mouse between the 2 layers you want to group, you'll see the pointer icon change, just click when you see that and it does it for you.

Thanks gals! You saved my sanity! I was flipping back and forth between PSE trying to do that, save, and then use in CS3. Success!

I recently upgraded to PS CS3 from Elements too and for the first few days I kept hitting ctrl g to make the clipping mask. But I think now I've trained myself to do as Bree mentioned with the alt key and positioning the cursor btwn the layers.

When I used PSE and saw that the clipping mask shortcut was diff for PS, I used to wonder why. Now I know that ctrl g is to make a group is PS (which you can't do in PSE I believe).

The loss of photo bin . . . now that's a little harder for me to get over . . .

I know, that's a big one! I loved, loved, loved the Photo bin! Adobe seems to think that Bridge is a good replacement for that, but it SOOOO isn't!

I do the same Paula, but if I can save a step by hitting the ALT in between I think I'm gonna try it...

Really?! All it did was frustrate the heck outta me. Are you using it for organizing, or how do you make use of it? Should I be giving it another chance? Convince me!

I'm the same way...hit it by accident but it seemed to slow down my CS2 so much that I have never used the Bridge before. Maybe I should give it another try.

Is the bridge the thing you use to find all your files? If that's what it is, I couldn't live without it. LOL

LOL, I don't use File > Open either!

I just open everything through ACDSee.

I do too...Bridge is just TOO slow on my system. It IS useful if you're going between a couple Adobe products (the only time I use it is if I'm creating PDF instructions for one of my workshops in InDesign).

If you have ACDSee, I definitely see no reason for you to bother with Bridge (other than for things like Bree's example maybe).

Maybe there's been upgrades that have fixed issues, but I found Bridge was clunky, slow and really unstable. I can't use ACDSee, so I would LOVE something that would let me organize by keyword. But when it bogs you down like that, it's not much use to me. I also never figured out how you to actually search by the keywords I was assigning. It was all in all just a whole lot of frustration to me.
