Default goodie bag idea for 4yr old super hero!

I am hoping to throw caliber a freaking awesome birthday party - on the thrifty side with cheap printable decor and some fun labels on heavy plastic containers. I'm even throwing the idea of maybe using plastic dinnerware cause i don't want to see $20 worth of color coordinated paper products going into the trash!

Anyway. I'd like to do thoughtful, homemade goodie bag things, not just the junk and dumb plastic toys that break in 2.5 seconds w/ this age group. I'm thinking maybe mini picture frames (do a quick pic with cal and each of his guests?), little trinket boxes, things like that. Maybe things I can buy bare @ hobby lobby or walmart for a few cents...under a dollar. I'm thinking small intimate party with less than 10 guests quite possibly.

Any information you have is appreciated

We had a super hero party this year. Each child got a super hero mask and cap. I bought mine from Amazon but there are a lot of DIY ones I found on the internet. All the kids loved that they got a costume to take home. That was all I did......no candy or anything. If I had it to do all over again, I would possible do a photo booth with props. Those are just fun! Here is a link for ideas for the party....

Here is a lot of ideas from Hostess with the mostess blog...

I was going to say a cape and a mask. Tht would be cool and they could wear them at the party. You could make it out of felt from Joann and not even have to sew.

I third the cape and mask. The photobooth sounds fun and will make another awesome gift for the thank you cards.

As for plates, etc. I bought some hard plastic plates at the end of Summer at Target. They are bright color striped. They are now my birthday plates. I got 8 of them and they are used for parties only. You might be able to find some fun colored ones and then just do water bottles or plastic reusable cups. Buy for one party and use them for lots to come.

We had a super hero party this year. I gave each of the kids a cape that my mom made. We just bought shiny fabric and sewed them up. In past years I have done chocolate bars wrapped, dipped pretzels, etc. I don't like the junk that gets thrown away either. Also you can find solid colored plates, forks, etc at the dollar stores. I have done that before, too.

thanks ladies! i'm excited about the party. i'm having a hard time deciding park birthday (possible cool/cold weather?) or dropping a buck fifty on an indoor party (my house is still in home improvement mode)...

i saw an idea of silly string the bad guys and i was like, YES! idk how the ymca would respond to that kind of mess, lmao!

i'll budget the cost shiny fabric vs. felt - both are awesome ideas!

Sarah - I didn't realize that you lived so close to me! I'm in Springhill at least once a month for work...id love to do lunch sometime.

I think a park party would give the kids more room to play and you can't beat the price or the amont of space you would have. What month are you doing this in?

I saw at Big Lots today that they have some Spiderman themed disposible partyware for pretty cheap and thought of you. Watch after Halloween for silly string to be on markdown. Sounds like it will be a great party!

I live in the Westchase area of Tampa, so not too far!
My DD's b-day is Dec 9th and it's sometimes cool, but never too cold to be outside. So go with the park party but do it around 2-3pm when it will be warmest.

I went to Gulf High school in New Port Richey Holiday kids went to Gulf back then (not sure if they still do?) But I live in Texas now!

My DD just had a party this weekend, and I wanted to FOURTH the idea of handing out capes and masks. We had a pirates and fairies party once and the girls got a set of wings and the boys got a bandana and an eye patch, and they all LOVED it.

I was also going to say that we made lollipops for our goodie bags. It was super easy - get the cheap paper sticks from wal mart. We had a hard time finding good flavors for hard candy, so we used an imitation cherry extract we found at the grocery store (from the spice aisle). We also used regular old food coloring, nothing special for candy - and it all worked great!! it was SUPER cheap. I luckily had molds from back in the 80's (one was pac man, if you can believe it), but the kids didn't care. they LOVED them.

lollipop recipe

oh, and we didn't have a candy thermometer either - couldn't find one. All you need to do is make sure the candy is at the hard crack stage before you pour it. this link tells you how to test for hard crack!

way cool - lollipops - awesome idea!

yes i'm so excited for him. if i have it outside that saves me like $170...which seems to be the going rate for a 2-3hr party! i was lucky w/ Brooklynn her birthday is in June so that means LOTS of beach parties to come Edyn is in January so I'm kind of simultaneously planning her pink party too... should've done better... maybe made a plan instead of a lack there of and ending up with birthdays so close, but not close enough to party together, lol.

So I'm thinking Cape & Mask out of felt or shiny fabric - i'll see which is the cheapest around. I'll go with some kind of homemade goodies...

Thanks everyone for your input!!

btw - holiday has a new middle school and high school that is behind holiday lake estates... and there is like 3 or 4 elementary schools. drives me crazy, lol.

juli - if you have facebook you can find me and we can maybe hang sometime!
