Default What are your photo/scrap goals for 2012? (long)

I've been thinking a lot lately about what's worked for me in the past (and what hasn't) and trying to decide what my photo/scrap goals are for next year.

What I did in 2011

I tried P365 this year and realized that I just didn't enjoy it very much. I made a month's worth of pages, but just wasn't sure that I wanted to print out an entire album of these weekly pages, especially since so many of the photos could be incorporated into my regular pages. What I did like about P365 is that it got me taking pictures of all sorts of things - and I've kept that up even though I didn't stick with the project.

I signed up for a bunch of photo and scrap classes this year and made it through some of them. I picked up a bunch of workshops at BPC when they had their 50% off sale and haven't even had a chance to look at them yet.

I also purchased a lot of kits that I haven't used yet.

Looking forward to 2012

Noticing a trend? I do. I think my primary goal for 2012 is going to be to follow through with the stuff that I started and didn't finish in 2011, although there are a couple of new things that I'd like to try.

New 52 - I like the concept of trying something new every week. I'm not sure if this is something I'll photograph or scrap every week, but I'll try to do 52 new things and at least make a summary page at the end of the year.

120 - This was inspired by a project that someone mentioned on The DigiShow. I don't remember whose idea it was originally, but it was mentioned about a project 6x12 where the person was going to take a photo of their entire family once a month. I really like that idea - especially since we typically only take one or two family photos a year. I want to expand it a bit, though, to make sure that I get photos of me & my hubby and one good photo of each of us individually each month. So... 4x12 (family) + 2x12 (me and hubby) + 1x12 + 1x12 + 1x12 + 1x12 (individuals) =10x12 or 120. No particular goals for scrapping these photos as a project, I'll just use them on my regular layouts. I just want to try to take more photos of our family and us as a couple.

Monthly Roundup - I really like the idea of these monthly roundups that Katie Nelson does. I think I'm going to try doing something similar. Definitely for me and I may try to adapt it for my kids, too. Again, I'm not sure if it's something I'll scrapbook on a monthly basis, but I'd love having the record of those things that we did/liked every month.

Besides those new things, I want to continue/finish projects that I started in 2011:

I took Stacy Julian's 'Finding Photo Freedom' class and want to get back into the habit of working with my photos several times a week - keeping up with tagging my new photos as well as continuing to go through my older ones.

SSD Portfolio - I started the year strong doing the portfolio, but just kind of petered out. I've been looking back at my portfolio layouts and I love them, so I really want to get back into doing them. Not so much for the discount, although that's nice, but because I've made some pages that I love that I wouldn't have made without it.

Classes - I want to work through all the classes I purchased in 2011 and either didn't finish or haven't looked at yet. The classes are aimed at improving both my photography and scrapping skills. The end result - pages I love even more than the ones I make now!

Scrap supplies - I really want to use the supplies I have in my stash, many of which I haven't used at all. My ultimate goal is to use each kit once for each dollar I paid for it, but I'd be happy if I end 2012 with half as many (or even 2/3 as many) kits that I haven't even used once. I think I have 131 unused kits now (after GGG), so it will take a lot of scrapping to reach that goal, especially since I won't be able to resist buying new supplies, too.

I'm trying to keep my goals pretty easy for next year because most of all I just want to enjoy this hobby. I think I'm right on the border of "just enough" and "too much". So, at the risk of hearing something else that I just have to do...

What about you?

What are your photo/scrap goals for 2012? What worked for you (or not) this year and what do you want to do next year?

Complete 12 portfolios
Complete project life
Complete 12 monthly roundups
Complete monthly he vs she layouts

My big focus for 2012 is documenting daily life and keeping up with it.

Most importantly I just want to enjoy myself. I do not like to set goals for myself in my free time; my work is heavily deadline-oriented, so I'm very relaxed about things I do for hobby.

In 2011 I finished a vacation photo book, and in 2012 I'd like to finish another one. But I'm in no hurry with it.

I'd love to finish some compilations in the making and do scrappy covers for them, but again, no hurry.

Maybe I'd like to print some photo books with some series of LOs, let's see what happens.

What I'd like to do is to improve my PS skills yet more; I love how scrapping has helped me with this.

Now that I'm a stay-at-home-mom, I don't have many deadlines . I do, however, feel that it's part of my "job" to record our family's story, and dgital scrapbooking is how I choose to do it. I do want it to be relaxing, but I also want to get some things accomplished. I can totally understand your feelings, though. That was me a few years ago.

My one big thing besides actually trying to scrap our pages is to recreate my recipe book - from the tin that I keep them in now to a photo album format - and 'scrap' those family favorites that are just scribbled on things now.

I don't, but I got the idea from Elise Blaha's he + she series of posts. We'll be spending a chunk of the year apart so this is something I can continue to do even with us in separate locations.

I don't do a lot of scrapelated goal setting either. Here are my few goals:

1. Spend more time organizing my photos and supplies. I have a great system in place, but as my scrap time has declined this year I've wanted to spend it scrapping rather than organizing. I need to balance them better.

2. Finish the 2 classes I've bought during sales and not done, one on photo editing and the other on shadowing.

3. Get some of my older photos (1-3 years ago) scrapped and declare those albums finished.

4. Keep doing the Portfolios.

Yes, I can imagine that not going to work can change a lot of things. I think that scrapping goals (and also CT work, to a big extent) make a lot of sense for a stay-at-home Mum. In a way it's a work replacement in terms of accomplishing something - meaning projects done and so (raising kids is an accomplishment in itself, but you know what I mean). I think it's natural and understandable. I'd go nuts if I set myself free-time goals, or had to do layouts at certain deadlines for a CT, but if I didn't have the work I have, I might look at things totally differently.

I never set goals relating to scrapping, however, I do hope to scan all of my wedding photos and make an album. In general, I just want to make pages I'm proud to show off

I'm just planning on doing scrapping/project life style scrapbooking and getting my pictures OFF of the computer and into an album where I can share them with my family

This should be the result of my goal-setting. However, if I put it in as general terms as this, I wouldn't get anything done!! It would be so much simpler if I could just say this!

  • I would like to finish the albums I have started... 2010 P365, 2011 P365, 2010 and 2011 vacation albums, ABC's of you, and AAM.
  • Scan my hubby's baby photos and scrap them somehow
  • Figure out what to do with the hundreds of photos already printed back when I was a paper scrapper... so I traditionally scrap them? Scan and digi scrap? stick in photo albums and call it a day?

I would love to the do the New52, too... but I'll be busy getting ready for homeschooling K with kiddo and I want to get into other crafts and more hybrid.

eta... I also want to make sure I scrap the events... not as great at this as I am everyday stuff.

Hehe, this made me giggle because your goals seem rather ambitious to me! But that's awesome!

I set all my scrapbooking related goals back in April as part of my 5th Scrap-i-versary celebration (There's a blog post about my goals here) so I'm not planning to set any new specific goals just yet.

But the two things I'd like to focus on for 2012 are 1) scrapbooking more consistently and 2) telling a better balance of stories. I've gotten into the habit of choosing stories to go with kits because of CT stuff but I want to make sure I'm making time for other important stories as well.

Oh and for anyone that might be interested, there's a great Goals workshop starting in January over at Simplify101 called "How to achieve your goals and create a life you love." It's taught by Aby Garvey who was one of the authors of The Organized & Inspired Scrapbooker book. I've taken the class the last few years and will be doing it again this year. Love that it gets me started off on the right goalelated foot every year, haha. Anyway, I don't get any perks or anything for promoting the class. I'm just a happy customer over there.

I am just like you! I am a strong starter, but the finishing, well lets say it is lacking. There are a TON of projects I have started or would like to start, but have not completed. I will have to think about my big goals for the year. I know I would like to learn lightroom and organize my photos with that. I am going to do Project Life as well.

A while back I wanted to do a he/she album. I LOVE the idea! Maybe I will tackle that again this year.

A Week In The Life {did this in 2011 and I LOVE how it turned out}

Oh, Rebecca, you said a few things that I also have on my "list".

I have scads of older pics of hubby and a few of my own. Plus, we now have a ton of my FIL's photos. I think most of these will just end up in albums, but I'll probably scan and scrap a few of them. I want to at least get them organized so that I know what we have and I can find what I want.

As far as the older family pics, I'll be scanning and digiscrapping some of them, some will probably end up in albums as-is (think project life style layouts), and some will never see the light of day again! I will definitely not be paper scrapping any of them!

They really don't seem all that ambious to me, except for the pictures. It's going to be a challenge, I think, to get a photo every month of me & hubby and of all 4 of us. Oh, and I just remembered one that I forgot - I want one photo a month of just me!!! So I guess I should call it 108, not 96

The new 52 is more about doing new things rather than scrapping or photography. I would like to document them in some way, but not anything overwhelming like trying to blog or scrap each one.

The monthly roundup shouldn't be too taxing, once I decide what I want to record each month. And, frankly, the list will probably look very similar to Katie's.

None of the classes I signed up for are very intensive, but should help me to make more meaningful pages. And spending 15 minutes 4-5 times a week to work with my photos should be very manageable.

Honestly, I don't think I could keep up with everything that you do, Lynette! I guess it's all a matter of perspective

I really like using Lightroom, both for organizing and for processing my photos. It has made a huge impact on my workflow!

One of the reasons I adore the "Library of Memories" albums is that I don't have guilt anymore about unfinished projects. All my layouts go into these albums, by category rather than chronogically, so I don't really have projects anymore. Those he/she pages? They go in my Hubby & me section. I love it!! It totally fits my haphazard way of doing things!

I'd love to do A Week in the Life. I was planning to do this last year, but it just didn't work out. Maybe, just maybe, I'll do it this year if I'm on track with everything else.

I'd also love to do a December Daily album. I just can't seem to be organized enough around the holidays.

My goals in 2011 is that I want to do a monthly review layout. I'm hoping to finish the layout by the 3ird of the following month. Besides that I want to do 4 layouts a month.

I also want to take a class (or two) and expand my photography skills.

I used to do monthly reviews when I was a paper scrapper, but never got into them with digi. There so wonderful to have, though, I wish I'd kept up with them.

My main goal is to focus on journalling. I have lots of LO's with pictures and nifty supplies. What I really want to make sure is that I capture the details, feelings, and circumstances around the event/activity. Last year I took Shimelle's "True Stories" class. I'm going to dig out all the material and use that as a starting point!

Then for each month, I'm going to do a monthly round-up type LO's or P12 for my son.

My main goal for 2012 is to do 365 and do a weekly layout with my 365 pics, kind of Project Life style. I'm actually pretty excited about it, and I'm planning on using the time that SSD is down after Christmas to work on some layouts that I can just plug pictures and journaling into later.

And, I want to be better about printing my layouts and getting them into albums so my kids can enjoy them.

p365/52 does not work for me - I get bored, forget, etc. I see it as a chore.

So I like the idea of doing something new each week and documenting it. That would be more my style.

I'd like to print more pages, too and to finish scrapping 2006-2008 which should be quite quick, but I just didn't get around to it.

And finally, finish my Holiday 2011 album by the end of January.

my goal is going to be to take more photos and not worry if they aren't perfect.

Now I think about it, printing some photo books is deffo a goal for me... I have loads of fashion LOs and kiddo layouts I did for other people, and I'd love to see those printed. I don't like putting a photo book together, but compared to my vacation monster anything looks pretty harmless in terms of putting together and revision. So there. My goal is to print at least two photo books early in 2012. And I'd like to start some more - two or three trips come to mind (Cochem, London and Strasbourg) and I'm tempted to turn some poems I wrote into a scrappy-designed photo book as well. Yes, that's an idea.

Does buying CS5 upgrade count as a scrapping goal? If so, I have one more. :-)

I have really gotten out of scrapping and taking pictures this year. As in, I haven't used my camera in months. I'm sad about it, I have missed documenting a lot of my year, and I don't even have the pictures to do it later.

My goal for 2012 is just to take more pictures, and maybe scrap once a week (as opposed to once a month or less that I'm scrapping now).

Take more pictures. I dont know if having an iPhone has become a disadvantage of sorts because it has made me so lazy to pick up my camera.

And keep up with my 4x12 family pictures - like what Tara Whitney featured in her blog

I just have one goal: Scrap MORE.

I've tried the P365 (a variation of it) - lasted until March, then I stopped.

I've tried the portfolios a few months and realized I don't much like the layouts I end up with, so I don't do those anymore. I envy those who do such amazing layouts for the challenges and get that discount!

So yeah, I just want to scrap more, what I want, when I want, with old/new/bad/good photos as long as it's part of my story.

Oh, and Darcy - I digi-scrapped a recipe book this year and I absolutely love it. All my recipes from all different sources, in one book.

I haven't set any goals yet, but I wanted to let everyone know that Katie Nelson is offering a class about her Monthly Roundups at BPC at the beginning of January. It looks pretty cool!

I'll be doing this class. I did my first round-up in November and it ROCKED! What an awesome way to capture memories. I haven't decided if I'll do one (2-page) layout per round-up or if I'll scrap each component as they inspire me, but either way, I like capturing all those great details.

I'd like to finish (um, start?) my son's baby book... he is turning TWENTY in about 2 weeks and I still don't have it done. And it's WHY I even started scrapbooking. Sooo embarrassing!

Thanks for keeping it real.

I have so many half done albums. I don't know what my scrapping "goals" are for 2012.

~I need to finish my 4 year old's baby book. I did a monthly LO for my oldest son until he turned 2 but with my youngest I only got to 14 months.

~I would also like to start my oldest son's NICU album. He spent 109 days in the NICU and there was so much that happened that I really want to document this. But I can't decide if I want the book scrapped with the same kit and if I do I can't decide on a kit.

~I want to print my LO's. The only LO's I have ever printed are for my kids baby books. I guess I never felt my other pages were "worthy" of being printed and put in an album. Need to get this thought out of my head.

~ I also need to catch up on major events in my kids lives- christmas, birthdays, vacations, etc. I do a lot of normal everyday things since those are usually my CT layouts that I do for a kit.

~And I will want to start and finish our Disney vacation which we are on right now!

I'd say stay caught up, that's my biggest goal, keep up with my recipe album.

And, finish my about me album, I've been working on the concept for almost 3 years now.

I did several projects this year and I'm happy about them, but after listening to this episode of the Digishow I realized I wanted to simplify (so thank you for that class link, Lynnette!) and focus on what makes me happy with scrapping. I also have some offline things I wanted to focus on and non-scrap things that hopefully will keep me busy.

I am probably going to do monthly roundups (love Katie's questions!) as my year-long project and shorter-term ones throughout the year. I'm determined to print out an album too--I have not printed a single album since I started scrapping I do have several ready to print, lol.

- Print my 2011 Photobook in January.

- Continue my 365 throughout 2012. I just love this project so so much.

- Continue on with my own personal baby album. I'm scrapping all the pictures from my childhood for my Momma. I really want to surprise her with a Photobook for Mother's Day. Maybe it could contain my first year or two? I've made some serious progress with it the last couple of months.

- Keep up with the portfolio challenges... I've done ever one since June (7!!) when I joined and I love the pages I've created. Plus, I'm all about that discount.

- Have fun, capture those memories, and just keep scrapping.
