Default In case you were wondering...my husband and daughter on the news

The news station did a story on what is happening. It shows the intersection and the vehicles. Look at ours which is the black car and tell me it does not look like he was speeding?

Gosh Jessica, that was hard for me to see those cars, I can't imagine what it must be like for your family. I'm so sorry that you're not getting the justice your family needs and deserves, but I believe in my heart of hearts that even though he might "get away" with it right now, he will suffer consequences in some way for it.

My heart breaks for you and your family. What a terrible, horrible accident. Then to add further insuld he gets a slap on the wrist? Really? Wow, horrible. There should be a way for a forensic or some sort of expert to figure out the speed involved. I can't imagine such destruction at a normal speed. Either that or the car manufacturer has some explaining to do. I wonder hoe we'd go about finding an expert who'd be willing to look into this...
I will keep your family in my prayers. I am so heartbroken for you all...

I'm glad the news picked up the story Jessica. My heart breaks for you every time I think about the accident and the aftermath. ((HUGS))

I'm so sorry Jessica... I had no idea what happened to you, I've been on a scrap-stop for 6 months earlier this year, so I had to go find your post about the tragic news... There are no words.
It's incredible that the person who did this isn't punished!! I don't understand your law system! Big hugs to you and your family.

Jess, again, I am SO sorry that your family has to go through this.

It may look like he was speeding, but if the police can't prove that he was, then they can't charge him with anything. I don't know what happened with the blood-alcohol testing mess up or refusal and all that, but if the police have no evidence that he did anything other than run a red light, there isn't anything more they can do.
I know it LOOKS like he was going incredibly fast, but you'd be surprised the kind of damage cars can do to each other at lower speeds. I rolled into the back of a car in traffic going MAYBE 10mph, and my little car was totaled. :/

I asked a friend and he told me that in Slovakia the state would sue the person for manslaughter as well. Also, the fine for red light seemed quite low to him when compared what's charged here. He would also automatically lose his licence (for the red light only - even if nobody was harmed).

I was shocked that they only charge the person for red light, but I wasn't really sure about our law in this. So I asked and this is the answer I got. Not that it helps you. I can't say how sorry I feel that you have to go through all this, Jessica. Losing a son and feel helpless that the person responsible just walks away with a fine. *hugs*

No words, Jessica. I'm so sorry that he's not receiving more punishment than that. I guess I don't understand vehicular manslaughter, because that is that not what happened?

So incredibly sorry, Jessica. My heart aches for you and your family. I do agree with Traci though that while the driver may not have to face the consequences here at this very moment, he will eventually. Big, huge hugs to you!

That's just awful. With that guy's previous history of speeding and reckless driving, it's not hard to imagine he was being reckless in this case as well. I'm so sorry Jessica, keeping you all in my thoughts.

Just finally got a chance to watch this.

Lost his license for 6 months? Wow. I know someone who was cited for a DUI - nothing happened, no accident or anything . . . he just got pulled over for drunk driving. And, that person lost their license for over a year. First offense, too. I can't believe that in this situation the penalties are so light.

It really isn't fair Jessica! My heart aches for you and all you've lost. Big HUGS!

Thanks everyone. Col my husband did bodywork and is certified in welding, frame machine and I-car certified. He has seen thousands upon thousands of wrecks and never saw one that bad before. He also worked in a junkyard as a mechanic for 13 years and even there nothing was ever as bad as our car was.

I have a feeling it will not be the last time he is in trouble though I just hope nobody else has to deal with the heartache and pain our family has due to this guy and I really do hope he has learned his lesson but looking at his past and the fact he was ordered to do victim awareness & DUI classes from previous charges it does not seem likely

Oh...those images are so horrible! It's such a blessing your husband lived! I'm so sorry for your loss though. It does seem horribly unfair. I hope you guys find some comfort. You're definitely in my prayers!

Ugh, this just still continues to make me sick at heart for you and your family. I'm so sorry that there does not even seem to be any justice to at least provide some small degree of closure on it. Please know that even though we may not always mention it, there are so many of us here who think about you all the time and send positive thoughts and prayers your way.

Good God! Are you kidding me? His license is suspended and a $164 ticket for taking the life of a young man? That is beyond outrageous!

Like Dawn said, I know there are many of us that think of you very often and are with your in our hearts. I am so sorry you are going through all of this Jessica. My heart just breaks for all you and your family have been through. I hope there is some way you can find the justice that is needed from all of this.

This just makes me sick and my heart breaks for you and your family. Our justice system is just a mess and for people like this to walk away with just a slap on the wrist proves how messed up the system really is. I am so sorry your family did not get the justice you truly deserve. (((HUGS)))
