Default what a long day...

My husband and I were supposed to go today to look at the proof for our son's marker for the cemetery. I woke up today with a throbbing toothache though AND my husband had a huge purple mark on the front of his leg near his hip. He had not hit it or done anything but his leg has been hurting since the accident in July so I called the doctors office. The doctor was out of the office today so I talked to the nurse and she told us to go to the ER. When we got there the doctor ordered blood work and an ultrasound of his leg. From last night when I went to bed to around 11 today the spot had went from non-existent to about three inches and it was dark purplished. The nurse at our doctor's office and the doctor were both worried about blood clots. The ultrasound and bloodwork all came back normal in fact they said there is no evidence of anything being wrong with his leg at all just a really large dark bruise. I am still worried about it but he will be seen by our primary care dr in a few days. They did a check of his entire leg from the ankle all the way up to his hip and gave him an all clear. Told him to take ibuprofen for the inflamation and pain and put ice on it. I have never seen anything like it in my whole life for a bruise like that to just appear out of nowhere. I talked to my aunt because she is the one who is handling the marker for the grave but she is also a registered nurse and she said it seems really strange to her too.

I hope they're right and it's just a bruise! The last thing you and your DH need is more medical problems for him

I hope seeing the Dr put your mind at ease a little and that seeing your family doctor will ease it even more. Best wishes for your family.

Thanks for the well wishes. I am still worried because it is still getting bigger and the pain is still pretty bad my husband said. I touched where the bruising is and it does have a swollen spot there. It is just so weird. Calling in the morning to see when they can see him. He goes to the ophthalmologist tomorrow because his eye has been messed up since the accident. A little blurry vision in the right eye and the pupil does not react to light (or darkness) at all. It is always really small no matter what you do. The doctors believe they will find out the issues in his eye is nerve damage from the accident.

Could he have been bitten by some sort of spider? I hope it clears up with no other problems connected to it.

That is what the dr asked him as well as if he could have ran into the bed or counter or something. He said no to the running into something and does not think it could be a spider. We do get spiders though so that is possible. The doctor seemed to be most concerned about some sort of blood clot and once he ruled that out and checked all the bloodwork he said to follow up with primary care dr and put ice on it for swelling and take ibuprofen for pain/inflamation

How bizarre. It almost sounds like a blood bruise. I sometimes get one in one of my finger joints; the blood vessel bursts, and the area swells up. But if that were the case with your husband, you'd think a doc could figure that out. Then again...doctors don't always spot the reason right off the bat. I do hope your tooth is feeling better. Have you taken some ibuprofen? ((((Hugs tou both))))

I cannnot take ibuprofen anymore...it is feeling better though. I think it was just the way I slep. I put some ice on it for a few minutes and it felt better. I need to get into the dentists but during the week we are either to tired to do much or my husband has appointments. I hope we can everything somewhat stable soon and hhe will not have some more stuff pop up.

That's so scary Jessica! I'm glad your tooth is feeling better and I hope they get to the bottom of what's causing his leg to do that!

Jessica...has he had a cold lately!?!? What about any joint pain!?!? Several years ago my youngest daughter was having some pain in her "leg"....she came in from playing outside and was limping and couldn't put any weight on her leg. She had some swelling on the back of her knee. We thought it was just from playing and let her go to sleep and if it still hurt the next morning we would take her in. She was fine the next morning so we just "forgot about it".

Several weeks later we were out of town and she again developed cold like symptoms and with in a matter of a few hours she again had sever leg pain and eventually couldn't walk...she started scooting around. Well I got freaked out and left for home.....in the 3 hour ride home she developed many many small "bruises" along her legs and a larger one on her ankle. I of course FREAKED and we immediately went to the ER.

After a few hour, lots of blood tests and some xrays she was diagnosed with Henoch-Schonlein purpura (HSP). I'm not sure if this is what your hubby has, but if he has had some cold symptoms and joint pain then it's sounds almost identical to what my daughter was going through!!

Here is a (kind of terrible) picture of what my DD's looked like after just 3 hours!! I never took anymore photos but when it was all said and done (about 2 weeks) that spot got to about the size of a baseball and then started to fade!!

She has never had the spots again (actually the little tiny capillaries right under the surface bursting) but she has had the joint pain a few more times since and it always affects her hips or knees!!!
