Question CS5 styles question!

Ok ladies...I reinstalled CS5 last night and I'm gonna give it a shot again!! But as I'm reloading all my actions and styles this morning I remembered another thing that drove me nuts about CS5!!! How in the world can I get my styles "grouped"!?!?!

In PSE I can make groups for my styles...like Jenn's Shadows ect and then I can chose that group from a drop down menu...but in CS5...when I drag my styles into it they are all just lumped in the styles window!!! See:

Maybe I'm dragging them into the wrong place...I don't know...I did google and I found something about saving a set of style as a library...do I wanna do that!?!?!

Help!!!

You can create a folder (I think they are called "sets") and then put the actions that you want grouped together in that folder. Click on that thing at the top right of the palette with the arrow and the lines. I think the choice is New Set (I'm not at my computer right now). Then you name it and drag and drop the actions into it.

I also find it easier to use the setting that displays the styles by name with a small thumbnail. In CS3, that's called "small list."

That only works for actions, not styles. I do as Rachel does and use the "Small List", which groups them together alphabetically, so I can scroll to my shadows. I rename them so that they will group together, typically with the artists name first.

ETA to switch to small list click that little arrow with the list to the right of your tabs.

I have mine separated by the "blank" styles. I like seeing the pictures of them for some reason but have learned where they are in the "folder" so I just click away!!

Yeah - once I got to my computer, I realized that you can only create those folders for Actions. Sorry.

That's ok Liddy ....I think I found something that will work for me...I changed it to Large list view and then I open the styles preset manager and I rearanged them into alphabetical order (for some reason they weren't ) and now I have them in the order I am use to, the larger icon picture and the name of all of them!!!

I wish we could do a 'search' in our styles panel in CS6 like we can now in CS6 in 'layers' panel. That would make it much easier to find things as well.

I use 'large list view' too. I can't do just thumbnails as I can't decipher what is what...

I wish we could all sit down next to each other and watch each other scrap. I bet we would learn a ton! I don't know how to use this styles box that you guys are talking about!

Amy, the styles panel is fun! It's where you store your style presets... like glitters, shadows, glass, etc. So you select a layer, say an alpha for example, then in your styles panel select a style... say glitter.. and it will add that style to your alpha layer and it will look like glitter... or whatever you chose...

Im a styles junkie :-)

Wow! What have I been missing? Can't wait to get a chance to try it out! Fun! So they are preloaded or come standard with CS5?

There are some preloads.. but you can buy them at shoppes too, and you can also find many for free online as well. They are super simple to install.

If you search at a shoppe or google, just search for Photoshop Styles and you should find a bazillion...

Amy, for example... do you see the water in my 'washing machine' on my siggy.. and in the bucket? I changed those to look that way... the designer (forgive me, I forget off hand who it is.. KCB? maybe) had it differently.. but I selected the area, changed the color.. and then added a bubble 'style' to it... it took a second to do! and now I have blue water that has a bit of dimension...
