Yep! I pretty much only shop here and I buy my templates from Cindy, Janet, and Kay and have my eye on some of Lynette's. (What I love is that Cindy, Janet, Kay and Lynette all have very distinct styles.)

I think it all comes down to that little tab at the top - called "community".

It's not possible to feel like part of a "community" that is the size of the WORLD, with all of the different interests, styles, and products contained within.

Store sites like this one have successful communities because we're all bonded together by our common likes (the designers here!) and styles (more "traditional"), and the community is appropriately sized so that we all feel like we really know and care about each other. When we post layouts, we get genuine comments. We watch each others' kids grow. It's that feeling of being apart of something that has drawn us all here, IMHO.

Which is probably why blogs and FB have emerged - now they serve the purpose of being "informed", vs what we get here, which is community

I meant in addition to the SSD templates I buy. :-)

Yes. Also, this is pretty much the best online community I've even been a part of, when it comes to friendliness, eagerness to help and lack of drama.

Beckie, you made me laugh so hard, I snorted! (Yup, I'm that sophisticated!)

Yes, between this and the popularity-contest (instead of merit-based) awards for best page in such-and-such a category, I decided to quietly walk away and explore store forums instead.

But I do miss a single place where scrappers could touch base. I miss seeing many "faces" that I used to see regularly at DST. Not that I was much of a chatterbox then, but still, you kind of got to know who was who and followed a few layout artists that really inspired.

Oh my goodness I almost spit out my water. Let's be friends. And not just because you're on SP's CT (love her, one of my first favorites) One time she made a really nice comment on my layout and I about peed my pants.

I'm glad others feel the same about the old DST when it was good. I thought MSA tried to kind of recreate that at one point, but they seem pretty dead over there now too. And Me So Scrappy- checking that one out. So much new stuff to see, I totally appreciate all the links everyone!

I agree about sifting through all the stuff that's just okay. Both layouts and products, but especially products. It would be awesome to be able to connect just with designers and scrappers that you liked, lol. Like a personalized gallery.

And whoever got my hopes up about being able to get this months Daily Digi kit for $5, I forgive you. Maybe I'll subscribe for a month... but I don't have much of a scrapping budget right now!

Okay...now I really need to get scrapping on those challenges so I can settle in here at SSD. And I need one of those cool name siggies...

Sorry that was me.
It has been a while since I've bought TDF's and last time I did it was still an option. Now I'm kinda even less likely to go there. Hmmmmm. Sorry again for getting your hopes up.

In the early days when digi-land was smaller I enjoyed DST. Then it exploded and then I think it imploded lol. Once it got huge it brought in a lot of just plain rude people to put it bluntly. I still upload my layouts there but I probably have been in the forums once in 3 months. I miss the days when it was a smaller nicer community b/c it was a great place to find out the where's and what's of digi land.

MSA got off to a pretty good start but then it sort of fizzled. I still like to browse the gallery there better than DST though.

But I don't feel like I'm missing too much b/c SSD is where I've always been and always wanted to be anyway

As for Facebook, I have lots of digi-friends I think we talk digi a good bit but we also talk about personal stuff too and that's okay with me b/c my online friends are just as important to me as my IRL ones

I was on that team with you - so that's no excuse for being out of the loop woman!

I miss it, too. But I left long before it changed owners, because the feel of the site had changed and it was all drama and promotion.

DST was great when I first came back to digi in 2007 after a year-long hiatus and had to get to know all the new sites and designers. But after I'd been there a while, I realized how much time I was wasting looking for new products, trying new designers, following every sale, etc. That's when I settled on SSD as my main site and got involved in the challenges here. I love the forums and designers, the sense of community, and the style of pages in the gallery. I'm sure there are other things out in digi-land that I'd like, but I never bother going to look for them. I'm perfectly happy here.

That's what I like about SSD too. Because I am from outer America I do see a lot of activity when I am not around, but I have fun reading everything back. It really looks like a big family. I don't post much here but everyone seems to know everything and when I post I get reactions or answers.

I do have to say that I am not really participating any other community at the moment. And drama is mostly what you look for yourself. You CAN keep out of drama.

I do am curious to seeing more facebook friends scrapbooking.....but I am always a little shy to ask for a "friendship" when I don't really know people in person.

I can't believe all the replies and chatter on this thread. I love this place already. I stayed up last night working on a siggy so I could be cute like y'all. Now I just need to find a picture of myself that's not horrid.

Hopefully I'll get a chance this weekend and start this portfolio thing too....

I kinda miss DST the way it used to be too. On the other hand, I'm not sure DST was really what I thought it was when I started out! I thought it was just a bunch of scrappers who were really excited about scrapping and sharing their favorite designers. Then I got more savvy to the whole creative team thing and the amount of promotion going on and I became a bit more jaded with the whole experience, especially as people became more and more aggressive about it. Don't get me wrong -- I don't think there's anything wrong with creative teams, and I've been on quite a few, but I do think some of the promotion was out of hand and really disingenuous. The massive swing to fantasy type layouts was the nail in the coffin for me -- I really just couldn't relate to so much I was seeing there.

I love that there isn't a seperate thread for everything. we get to know each other because everything is one place. I don't check the nsbr forum at other sites but here I'm actually interested in nsbr thread
