Default NSBR: Stupid mommy questions...

Two things that I really don't want to have to call the doc about unless I have to (because I feel like I am on the phone with them ALL the time)....

I noticed that one side of Logan's (8.5 mos) right eye looks bloodshot. It's not really pink or irritated, just very bloodshot on the one side. He's had some minor goopy stuff in his eyes, but nothing major. I really don't think it's something like pink eye because it doesn't seem to bother him at all. He isn't rubbing or itching at it, he's not irritable or cranky.

Second... Logan only has two teeth (bottom middle), so I've been waiting for his top ones to make an appearance. Well from the look of it, instead of getting his top front's, he's getting his incisors/canines. From what I've read online, they normally don't come in until after the other top ones and normally after a year old at least. Now I know there is no "normal" when it comes to kids, but has anyone's else's baby gotten teeth in such an odd order?

my oldest son (now six) got his "outer" teeth before his "front" teeth. Its not super common, but its totally normal. He'll just little a bit like a vampire for a while. lol

as far as the eye goes, we just dealth with a looooong pink eye outbreak so I'm super sensitive about it. The thing about pink eye is that the "pink" is usually not just in one spot, its usually all over the white of the eye. He probably just got something it in that irritated it and thats also what the goop is from. I'd say just keep an eye on it. If it gets worse or doesn't go away in 24-ish hours, then i'd call the doc.

I would say his eye is probably fine. He could have scratched it too, and that could be causing the redness and the goop.

As far as the teeth.... I'd go w/ Jenny's answer. LOL

it sounds like the eye could just be a clogged duct, do you breastfeed?? If so just squirt a little breast milk in his eye (you can express it in a spoon or so and use a dropper) for the next couple of days and it will clear up anything that's going on in there!! If you don't a warm compress on tht corner of the are and a little massaging of the area should unclog it!!

As far as the teeth go.....I'm not sure but I think you are safe to wait till his next well baby check up!!!

I agree the eye is probably nothing, but take a temp just in case as a fever (even low grade) would indicate the body's attempt to fight off an infection, in which case - it's worth a phone call to doc.

I haven't read the other resposes, but the eye sounds like it could be pink eye (or not - lol). We get it all the time around here and it doesn't always hurt, especially if it's not a really bad case. I just had it myself and only the corner of my eye was slightly red. I don't get the blaring red eye when I get pink eye.

As for the teeth, I'm not sure of the order they're supposed to get them, but my 6 month old (as of today - sniff sniff) has her first 2 teeth just starting to poke through, and they're the top canines. She's going to look like a vampire.

It sounds like pink eye to me!

Michele

eta: Forgot to mention, a goopy pink eye is how my littlest one's seasonal allergies first presented.

Thanks guys! I'm going to keep an eye on the eye thing, LOL! I think it's nothing, but if it's not better by morning then I might as well have the doc take a look to be safe.

And good to know that I'm not the only one with a little vampire... LOL!

He could have gotten something in his eye, even a grain of sand or something is so irritating (I should know, I just got back from the beach with the girls LOL).

For the teeth, mine didn't do this, but I have seen itty bitty vampires before LOL
