Default Question for other Font-a-holics

i am a total font-a-holic. but the problem is that i have soooooo many...that i'm overwhelmed with them and find myself using the same ones over and over because i can't remember what they look like.

does anyone have any ideas? i use adobe 7.0, and it doesn't show me a font preview when i open them...am i behind the times...is there any programs to organize them????

I use the Font Thing (it's free) to organize all my fonts.

Here's a screen shot...

It also lets you install only the fonts you use most often.

I need to look into the font thing. I get so stuck on using the same 3 or 4 fonts over and over, lol.

OK, question! When you use The Font Thing, how does that work with, say, PS? When I'm working on a lo, do I also open The Font Thing and pick my font from there? 'Cause if I have anything besides PS open, my stupid computer is crazy slow.

i use AMP Font Viewer. Font Thing didn't work very well on my laptop.

also I can see previews in ACDSee.

STC font browser is cool too for seeing the fonts currently installed on your computer.

I have the font thing too, but I'm usually too lazy to pull it up, lol. I think there is a plug in you can get that will make it compatible w/vista (not 100% sure).

I just use ACDsee to view my fonts and to open them up in PSCS3 without installing them. When you are in ACDsee just select all the fonts (I Have them all in one folder) and then go to Database and choose Rebuild Thumbnails and they will be in PS when you open it. After doing that for a couple of weeks it is habit. I also have ACDsee set to open up in my font folder so that also reminds me.

if you want to see everything you have Font Thing and Amp Viewer are great. But if you don't need to see more than several, you can open them up and leave them in the task bar. Then you can use them that way.

i think AMP Font Viewer is very good. So that you don't bog down your PS or your system, you need to keep your installed fonts 300 or less. So if you'd like to use other fonts, use the AMP Font viewer and choose to 'activate temporarily' the fonts you want. After you used it just deactivate it. If you forget though, if you restart the computer the font will deactivate itself

I used to use 'font thing' to view, organize and activate my fonts, but couldn't load it on my newer windowsXP. I have switched to 'Suitcase' and love it just as much. I have them all organized by style (like 'handwriting') and only activate it as I need it. Keeps PS from bogging down.

Tracie, you can open it long enough to load the fonts you want then close it. I like how you can temporarily load them versus installing them.
