What I htink it means is both candidates promises of who they are and are not going to tax and those things they want to do that cost money, are not going to happen. Our taxes will go up and we won't get much in return because we are so far in debt we can't afford to spend more.

Though this is the government we are talking about, they do seem to always find a way to spend more no matter how much they are in debt.

wow ours is like 3.69 a gallon. I do see some pros if it works like it is supposed to but also see some cons too. I dont like the idea of generations down the road paying for this debt but I am also really scared that if something doesnt turn around soon we will not have an income in my family. Ive applied/tried to apply for work and nobody is hiring. My husbands job has slowed down so much he has come home early from work three days this week. it just sucks all the way around really.

I know it's crazy. The highest our gas got was like $3.98, but it's been falling just a bit at a time. Normally it's an average of $3.65 or so.
The past few weeks however its fallen quickly and steadily. Here in my town it's $2.99, and in the next town over where my DH works, he says it's $2.94.

I haven't seen $2.99 for over a year. Just happy to see $3.49 again.

As for the bailout, I have mixed feelings, too. Really disappointed in our childish politicians who had to have stupid tax breaks on Hollywood production companies or wooden arrow manufacturers before they would give their approval.

yeah, it wasn't enough that we were already forking out $700 billion, we had to come up with some way to spend even MORE?!

The bill may have been necessary to keep us all afloat, but man oh man, the whole situation sucks.

about the whole shebang. Really. Propaganda diaper-doody. And really hate the rush timeline - like this wasn't cookin' for 10 years?

And that's with the whole lot of tax pork in the bill for that will keep this tax nerd CPA gainfully employed for years to come.

Burns you up, doesn't it? The funny thing is, no one likes this legislation, not even the legislators. Something needed to be done to keep credit flowing. This, however, may not have been it. Here's an interesting article from the Freakanomics blog (which, up until this post, was completely in favor of the bailout).

I'm afraid that the more I read, the less I understand and the fewer convictions I have. And I'm an econ grad. So I can't even imagine how everyone else is feeling.

I love my country I really do, but I'm sick of the whole politics thing.
Sick sick sick.
I'm sick of gas prices, I'm sick of $4/gallons of milk, I'm sick of a life that is so fast paced that nobody cares about stopping and making time for the important things, I'm just sick!

I hear ya!

I live in Canada, but this will have an impact on me to. I hate how Bush made it sound like this legislation was the only way...total scare tactic. I can't even begin to imagine how many better ways that much money could have been used to help the American people...

It wasn't just Bush. It was everyone. Granted, there were voices saying no in the legislature, but even they caved. It was everyone. Wall Street, Democrats (their leadership VERY vocally so), half of the Republican party, business leaders, the media, etc.

There were a few sane voices out there with real solutions (Dave Ramsey comes to mind), but they weren't loud enough, and they didn't give immediate solutions that everyone could go running to the American people and say...Look what 'good stuff' we did for you - now vote for us!

I'll keep my promise to my elected representatives - you voted for it, and I'll vote against you in November or the next time you're up for election. Good thing Kay Bailey Hutchison is retiring this term.

omg. I have NEVER seen it that high! the highest i saw it was at Dollar General for $4.29. I usually get mine just down the road at CVS. they still have that deal with Deans @$2.99/gallon. Or i just got some at Meijer for 2/$5. they do that alot. but most places are $3.99.

As for gas, ours last night was $3.64. I haven't seen it under $3 in forever! funny thing and i swear this is true though sounds unbelievable now but when i worked at a gas station early in our marriage (right before 9/11) gas was $0.75 a gallon. Ah those were the days!

I got milk yesterday for $3.26 at Wal Mart & that is about the best deal going & the lowest I have seen it in months. It was around $4.10 at WalMart for the past few weeks & I was getting it at 2 for $7.50 at Safeway. Then Food Lion is running a special, buy 6 get the 7th free & it's about $3.50 a gallon, unless you go to the one closest to me where it is $4.06

Well, I'm not informed enought either... but it's a bailout.. blah!

part of me things that you should suffer the consequences, not patch the hole to get past it! I mean, don't get me wrong, I don't want people to suffer that shouldn't--well, no one should have to suffer, but it isn't the bad business ideas that are paying for it--it's all of us.

So basically.... people couldn't afford their houses but banks told them they could... then the banks had to repossess the houses and can't afford that.

I'm learning on oprah. apparently we'd all suffer without the bailout! can't wait to hear why...

Yeah the whole thing sucks. And I still don't understand a lot of it. I know enough to know that lots of pork was added into this as well...which is the epitome of irrelavancy and irresponsibility and what is wrong with Washington, imo. Blugg.

Yeah, I love my country, and I am a military wife, and I would never betray my country and normally wouldn't say anything about it bad, but Washington is a joke. A flat out joke.
People don't even dream the "American dream" anymore because it's just too far out of reach (unless you're wealthy).
I wish other countries could see just how frustrated the American people are with our gov't.

Yeah - and those people didn't have ANY personal responsibility in knowing what they could and couldn't really afford uh-huh.
