Default cat owners ever heard of this?

I have four cats and they all have their own little quirks. They are all pretty much afraid of vaccum cleaners. One is afraid of lightning and thunder while another sits at the window and watches the rain. Now the weirdest one I have seen yet is my cat Patty is afraid of anything red. I did laundry last week and washed a hat my husband got from work out. Its a red hat and I dropped it on the floor. Patty came up to the hat and started smacking it then kinda backing up and then smacking it again. Now if you try to put it next to her she attacks it. She has done this to my red slippers and a red sock. Other colors she is ok with but anything red freaks her out. I searched online and could not find a single thing about why she would act like this. Anyone else ever heard of this? Seen it with their cat?

I have heard of that. My cat is afraid of my yarn when I crochet. You'd think she'd love to play with it, but not my Pippy. She gets that little hair mohawk on her back and starts hissing at it. It's hilarious. LOL

That's really funny - sorry. I didn't even know cats could see in color. I'm thinking it must be an old wives tale that animals only see in black and white? We had a cat that was afraid of the ceiling fan. We wouldn't have it on during the winter months but every spring when we turned it on, she'd freak out. It always took her like a month to get used to it again. She'd push her body as close to the floor as she could and literally crawl across the room as fast as she could to get away from the fan.

see I had always thought they were color blind but I think color blind only means perception of color is off? Im not really sure. I have tested it though and it is only red things. Not everything red though and usually only if it is something on the floor. Like I had a pair of fuzzy red slippers that would freak her out. She would go as far away as she could to cross the room and move real slow and low to the floor until she got past them then she was ok. That was kinda the same thing she was doing with the hat. It was like she was testing it to see if it would hurt her. It is really funny to see but also makes me wonder why red?

That's funny! I have a tuxedo cat that's not scared of anything either, he use to hop in the shower with me, loud noises didn't scare him, and he use to chase dogs away (acting all whacked out and sh!t). The only thing he's afraid of is our other cat, who tries to kill him whenever they "play". I've never seen cats that hate each other so much!

I don't know if this is correct but I've heard they can see color but they see it in different shades than we do...like red is green to them and vice versa.

Yes I have heard of this! We have 2 male cats, brothers, always trying to outdo the other for title of "alpha" male of the house. One of them hates the color red. We thought he just hated my mom (LOL- still might be so) but we've noticed lately that red makes him growl and hiss. She has a red pocketbook, red coat, and tends to wear a lot of red so maybe that explains it. He doesn't get mad at me when I'm wearing red but he does anybody else. He destroys red toys.

Yours is not the only weird cat out there LOL

I forgot to ask the vet the last time we took her in. Did you ever ask yours about this? Honestly Im used to the loud noises and other animals scaring them but the red thing is a new one. She has been this way since she was little and she is almost 2 now.

On a side note my other cat Pebbles watches tv. Today she was "hunting" birds on the tv LOL. We were watching Wild America and they had several difffferent types of birds. She is standing on the edge of the entertainment center watching and she kinda pounces towards the tv when the bird flew away. It was quite funny!!

I think all cats are neurotic, and I currently have 3. My serious scaredy cat likes to eat rubber bands and the cotton off of Q-tips. The younger frisky one likes to poop on the carpet (arrrgh), and the oldest is a cranky old biddy.

Have to agree with you here! DH's cat has weird neuroses--for one thing, she can't eat unless someone is stroking her. She likes watching TV too, and creeps closer when she notices another cat on screen, it's funny
