Default Do you burn your kits to DVD?

Okay, I know we've discussed this type of thing lots of times. Just humor me. So I used to try to burn my kits to DVD as backup as well as have them on my portable EHD (which I work off of) and on my backup EHD (which acts a bit scary at times).

But I'm thinking of giving up on the DVDs. I'm thinking that if I lost all my kits, well it wouldn't be the worst thing. I assume I could get my CT stuff back if I wanted. New digi stuff is coming out ALL the time. I tend to scrap with newer stuff anyway.

Hmm, while writing this out, my heart did stop at the thought of losing some stuff so maybe I will very selectively burn some faves. gah, I'm already backtracking.

If you had a hard drive crash and did lose you digi stash, were your terribly, horribly devastated?

I do, but I don't really ever use them. Although if my computer AND my EHD crashed, I'd probably use them to get my "go to" stash back.

I would be absolutely devastated because most everything I have I have paid for(only been on one CT and it didnt really work out that well). I only have 70 gigabytes so it is not a huge amount compared to others but I know I have more then some people might

I selectively burn DVD's, since I have everything in at least 2 spots, some in 3 or 4. I burned a DVD in the middle of the year of all my Traci stuff (she's a product making MACHINE) and I KNOW I would be upset if I ever lost all her stuff and wasn't on her team any more.

I am going to go through and burn my faves and my go -to's, but aside from that, I give up on DVD's. If my HD and my 1st EHD AND my second EHD all blow up, I'm taking it as a sign, lol.

I had a hard drive crash about a year ago. At the time, it was devastating. But I was able to get almost all of my CT stuff back, and a few stores were very generous in giving me new download links for what I'd purchased. It seemed painful at the time, but it turned out to be good because it was a forced decluttering!

I used to but I quit b/c I NEVER went back to them. I was just wasting time and DVDs. I have 2 EHD's and that's enough backup to make me feel okay.

I backup to Mozy and once in a while to EHD as well. I only burn photos to DVD. They're irreplaceable, scrap supplies aren't. (LOs I print as soon as they're done, so I have a hard copy as backup, too.) I certainly don't want to lose all my scrap supplies and I do have them backed up, but if worse came to worse I could rebuild a small but versatile stash for a reasonable cost.

I don't burn to dvd, simply because I use Mozy. I think I would have a heart attack and die if I lost everything. Although I would be more upset about losing my pictures and layouts than my kits but that would still crush me.

I would be sad, but not devastated. I have my designs on my own server, so if my DVDs got corrupted or my EHD crashed, I could get those back. That is what I'd miss the most is the stuff I created myself.

I do, because I don't have an EHD to hard copy things. I also burn my psd files of completed LOs to DVD, saving only the web jpg file on my HD.

No I don't. The only thing I would ever be sad to lose are my layouts and pictures. I mean, I would be sad, but it wouldn't be the end of the world. And I think just like you said, new stuff is ALWAYS coming out and getting better... so eventually I could replace it. honestly, I don't usually use kits more than a couple times anyway. Some elements and alphas are different but it wouldn't be the end of the world.

Although, I am probably jinxing myself too. I have my kits on my EHD and on my laptop harddrive although I haven't been able to backup for awhile because of issues with the EHD, but yeah, I'm mostly worried about layouts and pictures.

I just now signed up with Mozy about 10 mins ago and am backing up as we speak.
I have an EHD that I work off of, I don't keep anything on my actual hard drive just because it slows stuff down so much.
But I want to be prepared in ANY case because I have lots of stuff I don't want to have missing. Photos, documents, college and work stuff...it's all stuff that would devastate me if I lost.
I figure $1.25 per week is nothing compared to the pain of losing all my layouts, kits, and documents. I waste that much just in snacks and soda at work PER DAY so I'm really doing myself a favor by quitting the soda and backing up my schtuff.

I back up the good stuff, like ssd and a few other stores, on cd/dvd besides on my ehd, because they too, have been known to fail, lol.
I don't do it often, but it gets done.

I used to but I really haven't lately. I do back up my pictures every month to 2 DVD's though and put them in two different fireproof safes that we have. I also have an EHD that backs up to Mozy so as long as I have that I feel pretty okay about my stuff being secure. KNOCK ON WOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I back up my scrap stuff to DVD but not multiple times. I keep a second copy of my new stuff in a folder in my My Received Files folder, until I have 4GBs of stuff, then I burn it all to DVD and delete it. I might have a heck of a time getting everything reorganized if my EHD and back up EHD died but I have it all. I have multiple DVDs of my photos however because every 3 months I burn the most recent photos & then fill the disc with however much of the older photos that will fit.

I can't use Mozy because of my upload limits. I'd have to spread the initial upload out over 4 months somehow.

I backup to DVD all the time. I only really shop here and at TLP. I'd hate to lose my sweet lilypad goodness.

I think i would feel relieved if i lost all my kits and got to start over. I would not feel good about losing my layouts or pictures, tho. But I do back everything up to DVD to answer your original question.

I do burn my kits to DVD. I also have everything on my EHD. Although, I don't really have any sort of a 'system' for the backup DVD's, so if I were to lose stuff, it's not like I'd know where to find it on a DVD. I just put stuff in a file folder as I get it and once it reaches 4GB, I burn to DVD and just label it by month. Not a good system, but if I were to lose ALL my stuff on the EHD, I'd at least be able to load lots of my stash back onto a new drive.

I would be more devastated if I were to lose my photos. Sure, I'd miss some of my digi goodies, but after 4 years, I have SO much stuff that much of it doesn't get used anymore. I also tend to scrap with my newest kits.

Great advice and I seriously need a back up plan.

But...

I saw this thread and thought it said,

"Do you burn your KIDS to DVD? "

Thinking I'd like to see how that works.

Actually I read the same!!!!.... LOL

Anyway, I will be devastated. 5 years ago thieves brake into my apartment and they stole my laptop and PC and I was devastated, not because of the machines, but for my MP·, pictures and work.

Now that I'm a scrapper I'll be near to a stroke.... my pictures and LOs in the first place... and my kits too.
I have more than 1000 kits (plus element packs, templates and tools). That many supplies worth a couple thousands of dollars that I'll hate seen flushed down the toilet
