Default Melamine scandal..

Hey girls

A friend of mine shared this video and so I wanted to share it with you here.. i think its important to watch. Its long but worth watching.. share with people you know. I have no idea if its all completely true or if we are more scared than we should be.. but better to be safe than sorry.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUB79...eature=channel

SO scary.. watch near the end where he says that china pulled ALL products containing milk powder/ingredients off the shelves but that these same products are still being sold and are on the shelves in the states.

Thanks for sharing this. I shared it on my Facebook...maybe we can get the word out more and more.
Soon it's going to be to the point where we are all going to have to grow our own foods in order to stay safe. I just can't believe the things that are happening around here. Why aren't people crying out more?

I guess the only way to keep your kids safe is to not eat ANYTHING from China.

It just makes me sick to think about...it seems like we're so helpless here. I'm thinking of everything my kids consume that could be tainted...it makes me want to cry. It's time for our leaders to step up and not allow this sort of thing to be going on in this country.

see this is what i'm confused about.. from the video it sounds as if we have no way of knowing if the milk products are in foods made in china. because the milk products could have been used in the candy/foods made in canada/states but it doesn't list that the milk products are from china. or am i wrong in this? if i am it would make me feel slightly better.

That was my take on it...that we won't know for sure on all products. I need to rewatch with DH anyway, so I'll try to catch that for sure.

Its crazy how much of our food products come from China. If you get a chance check the label on the apple juice in your house. I almost guarantee that it states that concentrates from China are included in your juice. THe only ones I have found that do not say this are simply apple(its in the refridgerated section) and musselman's. These are the only ones I buy.
I'm doing this because regulations are not tight enough in china for my peace of mind, and also because I think that US as a whole depends WAY too much on China.

I just discovered this the other day Emily...now I am totally aware. The girls got candy from an amusement park this summer and I didn't realize it was made in China until after I purchased it. I immediatly threw it away. I didn't even know about all this crap that's coming out now, but it made me uncomfortable to see candy coming all the way from over there.

I got this email about it...not sure if it's just this candy or that's just one they know about

There is a new warning put out by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency....
Sherwood brand Pirate's Gold Milk Chocolate coins are being recalled due to the fact that they contain Melamine, the ingredient in milk product that has caused many infant deaths in china. These candies are sold at Costco, as well as many bulk and dollar stores. please make sure to check your childrens halloween candy and DO NOT LET THEM EAT THE PIRATE COINS (you know the ones wrapped in the shiny gold foil) and please let other parents know about this!

This one is listed as TRUE on snopes.com. These particular candies are not sold in the US.

This scares me SO bad.... Elle lives on Apple Juice, and ours says concentrate from china too....

I know. The apple juice really got me. One of my friends sent an email to one of the apple juice producers and asked them why they were getting concentrate from China and south America. I guess when they make apple juice they use the apples that they cannot sell in grocery stores. So teh ones that may be a little overripe or bruised. Sometimes there is not a lot of produce left for them so they have to turn to other sources. They claimed that if they didn't, then another apple juice company would take over their share of product on the shelf and they would go out of business. My thoughts are, that is fine, and I do understand from a business perspective. But I prefer to stay away from them and I will buy the ones I know do not have concentrates from China in them(even if I have to pay more). I have become a big label reader since having my daughter...

Reason number 134,597 that I'm sooo over how much we import from China with it's lax oversight and regulations in manufacturing. And it's VERY hard to avoid purchasing products that are *not* in some part created in China. Thanks for the link and raising awareness.
