Default So, what were the hits and misses

of Christmas gifts for your kids?

Keira is in love with her guitar.

Haven't seen her play with her Barbie styling head since Christmas day, I'm thinking that was flop. I thought for sure she love fixing its hair instead of mine. LOL!

DH and I just had this conversation a while ago. There isn't one thing that I think we wasted money on. The boys love everything!! Their 50's diner by Step 2 but a MAJOR hit and all the food we bought is their fave!!! They got a Melissa and Doug easel complete with all the supplies and love that too....of course they love their cars/trucks/trains too!!! They have played with everything that is out of the package....Leap frog magents, books, guitar, shopping cart, leap frog desk, etc......they love it all!!!

I got a whole bunch of Melissa and Doug puzzles and other things 40% off (I got TONS of stuff for only $78) and they have all been a MAJOR hit with the little boys. I just love Melissa and Doug stuff!!!

There is usually a few things that we think afterwards was a HUGE waste but not this year. We did GOOD!!!

Our oldest for an iPod touch and some gift cards and of course that was a hit too!!

Carrie LOVED her Step 2 wagon and just wants to pull around in it. The stacking blocks weren't a huge hit but she will play with it all eventually.

Batman Lego for the Playstation 2 appears to be his favourite so far. The remote control fire engine that Nan bought him even gives him a headache lol have to admit he hasn't really played with anything else but that could be because he's not feeling very well.

The only miss in our house is the missing gift! The boys (with Andrew's help) bought me the Top Chef cookbook a few weeks ago. Andrew lost it!!! It'd be a major hit if I could just look at it!

The hits?

Wii games: Outdoor Challenge, Playground, We Ski
Bakugan sets for JP (including battle arenas)
Wall-E sheets/comforter/no-sew throw for Devin
books, movies, pretty much everything.

We had all hits at our house, but we stuck pretty much to their lists. I was thrilled that all the clothes I bought for my oldest son (16) fit him and he loved them all. Whew!

The 2nd Xbox 360, video games, i-Touch, Legos, Webkinz...all were huge hits.

I don't think we had any misses this year. Not even complaints that there were things on their lists that they didn't get LOL!

Biggest hits
ds1: Bathrobe (don't ask...he won't take the thing off, even though it's 75 degrees here!)
ds2: Nintendo DS Lite w/Lego Star Wars the Complete Saga
dh: new heavy duty baking sheets from Sur La Table
me: silver hoop earrings & black/grey stone necklace

my daughter seemed to love her Taylor Swift cd and I bought her a dry-erase board to write her weekly schedule on it and she loves it (and so do I because she often "forgets" to tell us what is going on for her from day to day)

My oldest son loves his PS2 that his grandparents got him and I think he really likes the games he got for his Nintendo DS.

My youngest loves the Nintendo DS he got as well as the games.

I only got a cd and a game so although it isnt much my husband really did try and he even went to four different stores to get the game I wanted

and for my husband I got him a DVD set of The Gambler, a crock pot (yes he asked for this LOL he does alot of the cooking here) and a model car which he said he wants to keep on my desk with the one he bought me a few months ago. Mine is a 1970 Plymouth Barracuda and his is a 1970 Challenger R/T

Wii for the family (we've been playing lots of MarioKart and Monopoly)
Sandisk Sansa Fuze mp3 video player for Cameron (he hasn't turned it off in two days)
BlueRay player for DH
fluffy robe for me

Misses:
Dora Talking Kitchen for Connor (he's hardly even touched it)
Bakugan for Cameron (one was broken so we have to take it back)

my son is absolutely in love with his drums but we knew he would be...i think he likes everything...it's just a matter of getting around to play with it...he's been playing with everything slowly but surely but the drums get most of his attention...

The things we got Luke were definitely a hit- his Adventure Bible, Transformers & Leapster. Most everything my parents' got him was good-- they just went off of the wishlist on TRU- especially his GeoTrax airport!!!! He wasn't too thrilled with Wizard of Has Veggie Tales DVD or his Word World DVD... ah well.

L.J. has been back and forth from the train table to the Clickstart computer since Christmas Day so those were definite hits. In between he will see something that he knows is new and stops for a second to play with it, but not for very long.

The only miss in my book is the toy laser gun that my aunt got him...it is earsplittingly loud and obnoxious.

I was just telling my mom yesterday I could have saved tons of money b/c the one toy DS has played with constantly since Santa came is his 2 inch tall Wall-E figurine that cost 6 dollars! lol

He played with his Mickey Mouse Motor Speedway that first day but since then he's probably pulled it out 2 times...54 dollars!

My MIL went against my wishes and bought him a v-tech video game thingy...he likes it but drives me nuts with it b/c he wants to play it and I get it all set up and then he plays with it for like 5 minutes..plus the thing runs on double a batteries...which totally baffles me b/c it drains them in like 2 days. Pretty soon, it's going to disappear when he's not looking lol

No flops here cuz the girls didn't get a bunch of little gifts, they got the Wii, Rockband and iPods... so they're loving all of it. They got some books and movies too which they've also used, but not as much as the big stuff.

My son loves everything thus far, but just about everything has wheels, so he would. Thus far it seems like his train table, his Mack truck from Cars and his Matchbox racetrack are the biggest hits. I am sure his motorized motorcycle will be a huge hit, too. He doesn't like the bike helmet, but I don't care, he's gonna wear it. lol

Tracy, I wonder if this is the same annoying thing that JJ got from my uncle's mother. Does it have colored light rings inside it?

The Leapsters were big hits here as was the Hulk pin ball machine my parents got them.

Meighan LOVES the cupcake maker but I hate it lolololol

Alex LOVES the IronMan DVD & the IronMan 'guys' he got. Hasn't stopped playing with them for a minute.

I don't think there were any real disappointments for the kids this year - more that they received so much that they can't play with it all & its a bit overwhelming!

Hits
Tyler -S.W.A.T. police costume & policeman belt, some kind of car playset that has a bunch of different sets that connect together
Jeff - a book by Alan Greenspan
me - new clothes, an Italian-themed rug for our kitchen, fancy salon shampoo & conditioner

Misses
Tyler - Sorry board game (evidently, he just wants to play that at the neighbor's house & not ours), My First Craftsman toolbench (plastic cracked already)
Jeff - I think he liked everything he got!
me - two pairs of gloves & two pairs of slippers (WTH?!) from Mom & Grandma 1, hokey-smelling 'organic' toiletry stuff from aunt, cheap-looking badly painted angel from Grandma 2

Tyler was only able to play with his toys Christmas Day before he went back to his mom's and just got back to our house last night before bed, so there could be a lot more hits or misses in this next week. It's hard for him to wrap his mind around the presents he got and the 5 Christmases he had with his dad's family, me & dad, mom & stepdad, mom's family, & my family.

Everything I gave was a hit *takes a bow*
I didn't get much off my list cuz Jordan and I decided to get a joint gift (an exercise bike he's really really been wanting) from my parents. The big hit will be Lightroom from his parents to me

Hits:
* Computer parts = all 3 boys! 2 out of 3 computers are built and screamingly fast!
* WALL-E that hooks up to Ipod and dances...14yo ds loves it!
* WALL-E pjs that I sewed for ds
* Bowling balls for 2 boys...they can't wait for everyone to get well and hit the lanes!
* Bowling ball for dh
* slippers for dh...his were literally falling apart
* Decorated bag from my niece for my scrapbooking (so sweet!)
* DS games for my gameboy
* Mythbusters seasons 3 and 4 ...we have been watching these whenever the boys are off the computer.
* GPS!!!! (I'm navigationally challenged so this is big big big!)
* $500 from my mom to spend anyway I would like!!!

Misses:
ratcheting wrenches for dh? hasn't said much about them although 20yo ds knew he would love them...but dh's fault for NOT telling us what he wanted when we asked

Box of tea from mil ... blech I HATE green tea and there are 30 bags in that box. Haven't drank tea in probably 6 years...really don't care for it at all any more.

Some kinda hair wrap thing that is like a turban to wick away moisture in your hair after a shower...my hair is way too short and won't go up in the turban.

Not sure about the Emergency DVDs (2 seasons)...think it is because ds is busy with his new computer and the Mythbusters...and hasn't had time to watch them...he generally watches those in his room.

Hmmm

I think the big hits went like this:
Boys - nerf game for the wii
DH - snowboarding stuff
Mom - clothes
Me - all of it

Misses:
Boys - clothes
DH - none
Mom - none
Me - smelly neck warmer thing that is supposed to help pains and headaches. I told my mom she could keep it because I would never use it (it smelled like lavendar and I hate that smell). I felt bad saying that but I didn't want to have to lie to her each tiime she asked me how it was! LOL!

The biggest hit was the kitten that we came home with the day before Christmas Eve. The other favorites:

16 yr old SON LOVED the playing cards I had made at Artscow with a baseball picture of him

7 yr old - all things Bakugan & DS games

4 yr old - Leapster 2 (thanks again to whomever posted about the Costco deal on that!)

We had a near miss. Before we decided on the cat we got the 7 yr old a fish tank - when he opened it from Santa he was so sad thinking we'd never actually let him get fish for it!

Hands down the kids love the Wii. We bought it back in Sept. and slwoly have bought games and accessories. So they are happy. Each kiddo only got something small other than that. Christmas was good here! Now if I can just get my turn on the Wii!!!

Hits:
Both girls got new doll strollers... in particular my oldest got a double stroller for her Bitty Twins. Big hits!
Also loved the new Little People Girly castle- twirl something or another?
and my youngest got GeoTrax Grand Central Station- that has been a hit, except for the fighting over it.
Also, lots of art supplies, big hit...
Oldest dd is currently on her Digital Arts & Crafts studio for the first time- figured since she sees mommy scrapbooking on the computer all the time she might enjoy it.

No real misses, I know eventually they will play with everything they have. Oh yeah, forgot the biggest hit of all, their Learning Resources Cash Register- they both love this, and we haven't even put the batteries in it yet!
