According to the NickJr website, they claim that you can print out whatever "art" you want to use and then put clear contact paper over it, leaving a small border of contact paper extending over the edge of the "art" there by making re-stickable wall artl....I'd love to try this, however if it doesn't come off the wall, my husband won't be happy....Worse yet, IF it comes off and pulls the paint off with it, he'll have a coronary....Has anyone ever tried this before?

Never tried it before. Why don't you try it in a closet? Then if something goes wrong, it's hidden and he'll never know

Robin, I'll be sure to post some pictures when I do them....My printer has some sort of problem printing anything these days so I may have to beg my parent's to print something for me so I can give it a try....

I would REALLY hesitate trying this! Try it in the closet for sure. Think about how much paint Scotch tape can pull off a wall...and contact paper has more stick 'em to it.
Now I have used contact paper to "enclose" paper piecings, alphabet cut outs....but I put the paper in-between 2 layers of contact paper. We then used them in the bathtub and on tile walls using "water" as our "glue". Kids loved to do this when they were little.

I used to work at a preschool/daycare and we used contact paper all the time on walls... More for like a border around the art work... but we have covered whole walls with a lot of contact paper... if its a smooth wall (half of our walls were smooth magnetic walls and the other half were regular textured painted walls) but anyways on the smooth walls it would come on and off with minimal sticky stuff left behind... on the textured walls it would leave a slightly sticky film that we would wash off with a wet rag... it didnt damage any of our walls and we did it for years... hope this helps!!

Hope it turns out! I don't think it'll do much to your walls, but it's always best to try it in a not-noticable spot!

What I would say (as a teacher) is that there is also a big difference in stickiness/residue depending on WHERE you stick and the amount of time it's stuck there. For example, our lockers that get direct sunlight are NOT good ones to use contact paper on, because the warmth of the sunlight makes the sticky backing much more gummy, and leaves a nasty residue on our painted (metal) lockers. This may also be related to the fact that it gets left up from late August to early June, but I would imagine wall decor would be something you'd hope to leave up for more than a couple weeks. It also leaves a residue on my tables (where I put it over desk tags), but that's more from dirt and other ick sticking to the gumminess where the kids pick at it...I don't know about paint pull off, as I can't really use contact paper on my walls at school, they're too textured to hold it well.
Good luck, it sounds like a really cool project...testing inside a closet is a REALLY good idea!!! |

Becca, Thanks so much....I truly appreciate your help....I definitely do not want any gummy, icky residue to deal with, nor do I want paint being pulled off my walls....LOL My walls are abit textured and not really smooth so I'm thinking that it might be more mess than it is worth....I still will give it a try inside a closet in a hidden spot so if it doesn't work out, no one will see it....
