WWYD? P365
So an online friend that I have decided to start her Project 365 in the middle of the year...on her 29th birthday, to document the last 365 days of her 20's.
I'm turning 29 in a few weeks and I was thinking of doing this. I really enjoyed P365 for the few weeks I kept up with it. But I gave up and I'm going to *try* to do it again. If you were going to do this...would you do a normal project 365 where you just photograph whatever...or would you try to make all of the photos about yourself? Photos of me, of things I like, etc. Kind of like a really long snapshot of who I was/what *I* did for a year. Not just cute pics of the kidlets. I don't like to get in front of the camera that much but I think I could stomach it in an effort to "get over it...you are who you are" kind of thing....but I don't want to seem self-centered either. What would YOU do? |

ya know, you say it might sound self centered, but when was the last time you concentrated on yourself like that? And what a nice momento, a book about YOU that your kids can see in the future!

I think that's an awesome idea! And it doesn't necessarily have to mean you're in every picture... just something that you thought that day or did that day or something that made it special to you. But you'd want SOME pics of you, of course.

I meant to do this last year for my 365 when I turned 25.
I tried to hang in there for it this year, and didn't make it much farther. I AM going to make at least a project 52 documenting the first year of our marriage. Same concept, smaller size. 52 photos/layouts of us, and the first year of the rest of our lives I think it's awesome Lena, and I don't think it's self centered at all. Think of the amazing keepsake you're going to create for your children! Everything about YOU that they may never think to wonder about or ask, there for them to cherish forever. Amazing!

I think a P365 about you would be a priceless gift to your kids. I would love to have one of my mom!

That is a totally cool idea! I'm still plugging away on the 365... I remember to take the photo everyday... but getting them off the camera and into a layout... ugh! I think I'd be more motivated if it was a special project like documenting who you are for a year! I'll have to remember that next year...

I think a little of both.
In my opinion, your kids are you and your life right now. Other things you take pictures are would be a part of you right now... you know? It would be cool to have a book all about you, but I don't know if I could do 365 days worth! |

Well, crud. I was plugging right along on 365 before I read this. I turn 39 in a few weeks, and now you've given me an idea. For right now, I mainly focus on what makes each day different from the one before it. Then again, I'm using my cell phone to take the photos, so it's usually a quickie that I can just send to my email and not have to worry about downloading, etc. (I still use my regular camera when I want to take photos of an event, I just knew if I tried to use my regular camera every day, I'd fail. Spectacularly. So far, with the cell, I've only missed one day.)
Hmm... going to have to really think about this project in a new way. If I do it, I'm going to do it about myself, but then again, I really have anyway. |

OMG! This is awesome! I LOVE the idea of doing this after your bday! mine is in a few weeks and I am so doing it! Thank you soooo much Lena!!! I am so inspired now!
I am with Sarah though and I do think for me that my kids would have to be a few shots really...but maybe not always the the adorable cute little poses...kwim? Like the more everyday aspects that help define who *you* are...or for me who I am. |

I'm sure Lena wasn't going to NOT take pictures of the kids. Of course they are a big part of who she is, I think she was just going to focus on herself for more of the project, instead of having 250 pics of the kids, lol.

This is *exactly* what I did. I started on my 29th birthday last year in May 2008. I completed it a month ago when I (gulp) turned 30. So excited to be done!! I didn't have the mindset of "this book will be about me" but rather, "this book will be about my day-to-day life". I stay at home with my kids, so of course half the book is documenting what we did together that day. But I also promised myself one picture a week about ME, or a picture OF ME.
Good luck! Better to take a photo of your kids that day than stress out because you just can't think of anything to represent yourself for a day.

I would do a mix of things- pictures of myself, my home, things I like, pets, friends, and of course my family. It'd be fun to look back and see that in the future! I'm always making pages about my son, but I'm sure in the future he'd like to see photos and pages about his dad & mom, too. Great idea!!!

Go for it Lena! You did such an awsome job documenting your last pregnancy I'm sure the last year of your 20's will be great!
Take whatever photo speaks to you that day, you, your kids, a bowl of fruit...its your life in the moment! Can't Wait!

Let's face it, when you have 3 kids, it *is* a big part of your day, and who you are. But Col is right. When I was doing P365 in January, 90% of my photos were just of the kids I can't imagine having NO pictures of the kids, that's not the point....but maybe, for a change...I'll force myself to be IN the photos Specifically I can't imagine like the 3 days that are their birthdays being photos without them in it...or things like that...but I think that I *am* going to do this book about me. It will be a much BIGGER challenge than just seeing something through from start to finish (which is a big enough challenge as it is). And I think I'm up for the challenge When I quit p365 I thought to myself...there's always next year...but this one has an expiration date so I hope it will make me more motivated to stick with it! |

It's a good idea to keep the kids as a "back up" so to speak. And I don't mean that as bad as it sounds I could try to limit myself to a picture of them each a week or something. I'm actually feeling excited about this and I wish my birthday were here sooner |

I think it's a great idea to do one about yourself! I'm still doing 365 and I don't take pictures of just whatever...it has to be a significant part of our day.

My 365 this year is somewhat random- pics of the kids, me, things we did, places we go, pictures the kids have taken themselves- and it's my first attempt, but I'm thrilled to have kept up with it!
I think a 365 about you is a great idea! I'm not interesting enough! Ha ha! But I do think and AAM book is my fututre too- like someone mentioned, that would be cool for your kids later on too.
