do you make your kids call people miss/mr/whatever .... I realized I do it on random- and I don't know why. There are some people that ce knows strictly as their first name.. but others that I have him say Miss first (no last names.. I think that is too much LOL but like miss pam apparently.. LOL).. Just curious ^_^

I do it randomly too. If its a close friend or someone we know well, its usually just their first name. If its someone we don't know very well or a person of importance (ie sunday school teacher, minister, etc) I say "Miss" or "Mr." followed by usually their first name. The only time I ever really do Mrs/Mr. Last Name is if its someone we've just met, an elderly person, or a school teacher/principal/etc.

I struggle with this. When I was growing up I called my close friends parents by their first names - all of my friends did the same. Now, the trend (in my circles anyway) is to definitely use formal names. It's popular when kids are toddlers to do Miss firstname rather than Mrs. lastname. I don't love it but I go with the flow and just do what makes the people we are with happy.

LOL Yes, Miss La, that's exaclty how we do it. It's a southern thing I think. Now like in our neighborhood, the kids call the grown ups by their first names, no Miss or Mr. But if I'm introducing Kendra to my friends, it would be "Miss Tammy" or "Mr Scott."

My kids call all adults by Miss/Mr or Sister/Brother Firstname until that person says differently. Well, there are a few exceptions. They call some of my very close friends Aunt/Uncle firstname. I can't imagine them calling my best friend of 21 years Miss Gina. Aunt Gina is so much better.

We just use Miss or Mr for teachers, Sunday School and such. Otherwise just by their first names.

I have my kids call people Ms or Mr until they are told they can call the person by their first name most of the time but I hate to be called Mrs Bumbaca because that's my mil and Miss Pam just makes me feel old! LOL! But I do have a few friends that even when I tell their kids they can call me Pam make them call me by Mrs.

yes I taught them Miss/Mr whatever their first name is. Elderly people/teachers/school officials (unless they specifically ask us not to) are Ms/Mr/Mrs whatever their last name is. If the adult asks to be called solely by their first name then I told them it is ok but only if they asked to be called that. An exception to that is my BFF who has kids the same ages as mine and they always called her Danielle. Her mom though who I am friends with they have always called her Ms. Lynn.

They just call our friends by their first names, but people who are more acquaintances tend to get Miss/Mr. Then again, I am much more likely to have the kids call a woman Miss than a man Mr. for some reason. My neighbors, Sheila and Frank -- they call her Miss Sheila and him just Frank. Mr. Frank just sounds so weird to me.

DH is very formal in this regard, and I'm not sure why, but he has his son call DH's best friend Mr. Last Name and the across the hall neighbor boys' parents are also called Mr. and Mrs. Last Name. Oddly enough, Tyler often calls DH's brother and sister-in-law by first name without 'Aunt' or 'Uncle' in front, and DH has never brought it to his attention or corrected him.

I guess I'll go along with this when Peanut is big enough.

This is what we do, but most all people say...don't call me Mrs whatever, call me *insert first name*

I don't think I've ever called anyone aside from teachers Miss or Mister. The only people I refer to by titles are doctors, that's it. Most of my friends are Aunt or Uncle to the kids, but I've got hardcore authority issues, so maybe that's why I have a hardtime giving anyone a title.

Growing up we had a million aunts and uncles because mom and dad made us call everyone that, but I'm pretty random. Close friends L.J. just calls them by first name, but other people are Mr. Miss.

Hmm...I have never heard of calling someone Miss or Mr FirstName. Never even thought about doing it. Honestly, I would be uncomfortable if my friend's kids called me Miss Mari.

we do Mr/Miss ____ first name here. Even when I'm talkng to my kids about said person I say Miss or Mr. My friends kids also call me Miss Meg

I've only just started the whole "Miss/Mr" thing... I don't remember what I did when I was a child... probably was way too scared to talk to adult... Since I'm an only child and my dh comes from a smallish family... all the close friends are "Aunt" Salli, "Uncle Chris" (well... actually that is the "godfather"...)... then ds's swimming teacher is Miss Roxane...

Growing up in the midwest, we just called adults by their first names, but after living in the south for almost 6 years, I got used to Miss/Mr, so that's what I'm teaching DS to call people. Can't do 'yes ma'am' though...just too weird for me... 'Mom' works just fine.

I ask the person how they want my child to address them. In our Homeschool Robotics Team...all the parents are addressed by Mr and Mrs.

same here...I always thought it was because I was brought up in a military household and was always taught that was the respectful way to speak to your elders so I taught my children that too. It is odd though some people dont like to be addressed as maam or sir nowadays

Hmmm... apparently my kids are very rude! It is usually by first name unless we are at church and then it is Sister/ Brother. School is Mr./ Miss/ Ms. I want my children to be respectful, maybe I can teach them the Mr/Miss thing now... think it is too late?

I always used first names for all my friend's parents, friends, etc....I HATE when my oldest son's friends call me Mrs. Blah...that makes me sound so old.

I taught for 9 years before "retiring" and of course in that setting it was Miss/Mrs/Mr but anywhere else a first name is fine with me!!

you know what else is kinda weird. When my son started school he had behavior problems. I got to be on a first name basis with the behavior specialist and his teacher and some of the administrators. They were not a whole lot older then me and because we live in a small town we saw each other outside of school alot. Well anyhow we had a staff meeting at school to make some decisions about how to address the issues my son was facing and one of the staff called me Jessica and the principal looked all shocked and asked who is Jessica. She (the behavior specialist) was kind of embarrassed and answered her that I am and it was like she was in trouble with the principal for not calling me Mrs. Knorr. I personally did not like the principal so I told her that I asked her to call me Jessica because we spoke often. Im not really sure why she was so shocked that she did not call me by my last name though

We use Mr./Mrs/ insert Last name. I grew up that way. I guess I am trying to teach my kids to respect adults like I was taught.

He calls his teachers that (obviously), but most people we know (which sadly isn't a lot) are more Aunt/Uncle (we don't have really any non close friends that he knows). So usually no we don't do the Miss/Mrs/Mr unless it's like teacher type people.
