I have this one by Solia which I like. It's lasted nearly 3 years with just about daily use and still straightens as good as the day I got it. I think the Chi straigteners are really good too..my sis has one and I know she like hers.

Another lover of the CHI! My friend (and stylist) recommended it to me - it's what she uses. She has it on ALL day (8 hours), and it still worked perfectly 2 years later. She recently had it in for repairs because it broke when she dropped it (but she said that she'd dropped it at least once a day for 2 years, and it only just broke).
A CHI is pricey, BUT if you get a certified one (made in the USA, not in China, Hong Kong or Japan - those are knockoffs), its got a lifetime warranty. You just send it in if it breaks or stops working properly, and they'll either fix it or send you a new one! So awesome! Also, CHI makes a wet hot iron. The plates have vent holes and you can use it when your hair is still damp. Erin (my stylist) uses it on me and it steams like crazy, but when she's finished pulling it through, that strand is dry! A HUGE timesaver if you have thick hair that needs to be blown out first (like your's looks like it might??)...

Totally love my CHI and I've had other brands. The CHI is definitely worth the money IMO.

I'm married to a very cheap man, who thinks paying more than $25 for any hair product/tool/color/etc is too much ... I have a cheap $20 flat iron from WalMart, and it works for my thick, kinky hair on the lowest settings. I have tried it turned up, and I just end up burning my fingers. lmao

hey ladies... a little note about CHI
Well everyone knows I'm a hairstylist, so I of course would normally recommend a professional product. Normally CHI is top of the line in our industry, but with economy dropping like it is Farouk *makers of CHI* have outsourced themselves and will be making a consumer based CHI for a fraction of the price and selling them at Sams Club. From the sounds of things and talking with my distributors they will sell a professional ceramic iron for 129.99 in the salons, and a consumer based iron for 75.00. of course those are approx. prices. I have a stock of CHI and the quality recently has tremendously dropped from what they use to be. I hope they figure everything out and get back on course!! They have also come out with the Biosilk flatirons which are cheaper, but come from the same company. Just thought I would share. If you buy a CHI through Trade Secret company they have a lifetime warranty, but the Farouk company itself doesn't have but a year warranty. Also like they said a good AMERICAN Chi will last you forever!!! I'm such a huge Chi fan so I'm so disappointed in this. |

I have a professional CHI and would not trade it for any other flat iron. Mine was around $150 (I think?), but worth every cent. I had a cheaper Revlon one, and it was the biggest piece of crap I have ever owned. It never got hot enough and my hair was really straight to begin with.

Don't buy a cheap one..I went through 3 of them before I decided to shell out the money for the Solia..the cheap ones just don't hold up..all three within a year started to not heat up as well etc.

Yeah... definitely don't buy a cheap one. I don't know what brand mine is, but I got it at Sally's Beauty Supply many many years ago (I think it was about $75) and it still works great. I need to have an iron that REALLY heats up cuz my hair is very thick and wavy. The cheap ones don't do anything at all to my hair. I actually don't use it much any more. I now wear scrunch my hair and wear it wavy/curly instead. MUCH easier. But my teenage son uses it on his frizzy curly hair and it still works great.

I have the Cricket Straight Crazy X2 Flat Iron. It works really well. The only complaint I have is that it's not quite wide enough.

I have thick stubborn hair. I have a really old flat iron, like 7 years old. I have no idea what brand it is because the lettering wore off a long time ago. It's really wide and it gets super hot so it works great. I would like to get a more narrow Chi so that I can try different styles. I have dropped my flatiron so many times. And my daughter actually knocks it on the tile floor all the time. I have no idea what I will do when this one breaks!

Like they said it's all about quality. That said, my CHI died after just over a year (but I use it everyday unless I go natural which is RARE). I had a Hair Art ceramic and love it, but it's small and I have a lot of hair. Believe it or not, I got a Vidal Sassoon ceramic iron from my mom (she didn't use it and it was really wide so I grabbed it) and it works great! The only "Cheapy" ever to do so on my hair.
So, go ceramic and get one that gets REALLY hot for thise great results (and use a protectant so all that heat doesn't break your hair off!) ![]()

i've just got a cheapo $15 one from WalMart. it works fine, but i am thinking of getting a nicer one. i bought the cheap one just so see if i liked it, lol. my hair looks SO much better when i use it! i have thin hair but it tends to get frizzy or just doesn't lay smooth on its own. with the iron its silky and smooth.

Another CHI fan here!
My hair is mega-thick and will frizz majorly if left unattended. LOL So I either wear it curly (little bit) or I straighten it and my flat iron is amazing! It's almost time for a new one though, so thanks Susan for the heads up! |

I can't help you much brand wise because I don't live in the States, but if you buy one make sure the irons are ' closed' when you close it.
I have had a few irons that didn't 'close' well and therefor didn't work at all ![]() Good luck with finding a good one!

I am a hairdresser too, I used to be a chi fan until they sold out to farouk, when they started making the chi's they made them cheaper and they dont last long now. The old chi's are made by infared, so if you want one to last get the infared brand it is the old chi. I like the one pass, and the babyliss pro, they have a long warranty (like 4 or 5 years). One of my employees has the one made by paul mitchell and I love it too, you are going to spend over $100 on a good one. It is worth it to go ahead and get a good one.
