Hello ladies! I want to buy a new desktop because all I have is a laptop. I was leaning toward buying an HP but several guys that I work with say that I need to buy a MAC because they don't crash and don't get viruses the way the PC's do. I don't know that much about computers and am in need of opinions. I do alot of scrapbooking and photography on my computer. Which is best?

I thoroughly despise my PC now... and I'm replacing it with a 27" iMac in February.

I agree with the Mac. I got an iMac last Christmas..I don't have Photoshop on it though so I still use my PC quite often but I do like the Mac so much better

There are people that are definately Mac people and other's are PC people... I use both... my desktop is a Mac (and I think I got a lemon, lots of problems with it and it is only 2 years old... can't run Photoshop) and I have a PC for a laptop. Macs do cost more and software costs more... when I was in the market for a new laptop... I shopped on price. I wanted the most computer for a limited budget.... the Windows version gave that for me. Knock on wood, I've had very few problems with PC... and I've been using them for over 10 years.

My husband will never let me get a Mac, lol. And my father would probably disown me if I got one.
I never have issues with my PC, so I'm not inclined to try and convince Jordan I need to go Mac, lol.

hi.. I'm a pc
![]() LOL.. honestly, I think you can have problems with both, and have great experiences with both. I've had this computer for almost 6 years now- I DID have to wipe my HD 1 time.... but seriously, it wasn't a big deal. She was back up and running and I did it all myself. I don't get attacked by viruses or have insane amounts of crashes -- and the ones i DO have is merely due to the fact that I have a teeny tiny HD and teeny tiny amount of RAM. that has nothing to do with the fact it's a PC. That's just me not upgrading my space on an old computer ![]() Anyway........ I've heard plenty of people having the same stinkin issues with Mac's as people do with PC's.. ![]()

I switched to Mac after a bagillion PC's and I will never go back. But I'm HARD on a computer... I use it so much for work, plus scrapping and photography, so I tend to find out quickly if it's good or not.
IMO the MAC is just simpler once you get the hang of things, I also like many of the features that it offers that windows doesn't... I know there was mention of there being some bugs with the new Snow Leopard OS and PS, but I haven't encountered any problems. I use both Snow Leopard OS and Leopard OS.

I vote MAC! I have not had any issues with my MACs. We have two Macbooks, our desktop is a PC and we hardly ever use it. The only reason we have it, is for a few of the programs we have are not directly compatible with a MAC. There is a way of running windows programs on a MAC, but I don't use those programs often enough to buy the necessary software to do it.
Good luck with your decision! |

PC girl here!
I considered trying a MAC about a year ago - but you have to purchase a Mac book PRO for $2K in order to run Photoshop. I got a totally pimped out PC notebook for a fraction of that (which I could customize, WAY beyond the standard two offerings from Apple). I've had 2-3 PCs at a time (we have a lot of computers in our house) for 10 years and we've never had any virus issues with any of them. We keep our anti-virus software updated, which is available free (I use AVAST). As for crashing...you just have to have enough RAM in your system to run properly. I run CS3, ACDSee, Lightroom, and IE all at once and NEVER have any issues. Except for ACDSee crashing, which is entirely an ACDSee problem. Apple/Macs are proprietary, which I don't like either. Just my $.02... Last edited by g8rbeckie; 12-28-2009 at 11:49 PM. |

I have both and love both. Well, I love my Dell laptop but not Vista.
My iMac has very similar specs to my Dell (almost the same processor, same RAM, same size graphics card/memory) but runs so differently. So much better and faster! For me they both have their pros/cons. I like the Dell laptop for simple tasks, internet surfing on the couch and scrapping on the couch. I use the desktop mac for design work. And my mac has not crashed. But that does not mean that PS hasn't crashed. ![]()

I have photoshop on my mac laptop, it is not a macbook pro, it is the older macbook that is like $999, photoshop runs just fine on it, I have a pc and a mac, the pc really drives me crazy with all the freezing up, it is newer than the mac and have had sooo many problems. I never intend to switch from Mac from now on.

I grew up in a very PC family. My dad has worked for Compaq, HP, IBM so I defintely knew my way around a PC. But over two years ago, I switched from a PC to a Mac and you couldn't pay me to switch back to a PC now. I love my Mac.
I really think the Mac vs PC debate isn't about the hardware. It's about the software. I'd much rather use the Mac OS than Windows. To me it's the difference between a luxury car and a basic car. Both will get you there - one just does it with a whole lot more style and pizazz. ![]() A Mac isn't going to be infallible - it's a machine just like anything else. But the overall experience defintely outweighs any negatives for me. |
