Default Grrrr - Printing B&W

Sooo I'm working on a hybrid LO and I need to print a photo in B&W. I create a new document 8.5x11, drag my correctly sized photo onto it, flatten, save as a jpg at level 12. When I open the jpg, it's all pixelated and weird looking, and it is NOT printing out well.

Help?

Awwww! That stinks! Have you rebooted? I've had a similar issue but rebooting fixed it for me.

Did you make sure that the 8.5x11 document is 300dpi to start with? My defaults already are, but maybe somehow yours was 72? You probably already checked that...but it is my only thought atm.

I figured it out (I think anyway). The photographer gave us a DVD of our images from the wedding, but they are all 72 dpi For whatever reason, it looks fine in PS, and it prints like poo. Which is weird, because I've had photo's printed through labs and they come out fine (I've printed 5x7's and they look great, and the photo I'm trying to print at home is a random size, but not bigger than that).

I'm messing with things again now, and we'll see what happens. I'm gonna print it here at work and see if that makes any difference.
