Default I think I'm officially a Google Chrome Convert...

as soon as I can figure out how to make tabs permanent...w/o the speed dial, but that's how it might have to be. And..if I can get swagbucks to work for an extension without having to download their toolbar. But it's SO much faster and cleaner than FF...and I *LOVE* FF..but have been having problems with it since the last upgrade today. I love Chrome!

I switched to Chrome awhile back after having tons of problems with FF and am really liking it so far. It's much faster and I'm not having the slow page loading issues like I was on FF. I just wish Swagbucks had a toolbar for Chrome though, I have it set as my homepage now for searching but the toolbar is so much easier for me. Plus when there's a code in the toolbar I have to go over to FF to get it which is mildly annoying! I also tried Safari cause I heard it was good too, but I couldn't get the toolbar to download and install so I gave up.

I have started using it ... but anytime I want to shop using UPROMISE ... I have to go back to Firefox because UPROMISE doesn't have a Chrome update yet. Bummer!

I think I'm going to be switching to Chrome soon as Firefox has been driving me INSANE. Constant freezing and everything.

I *love* chrome! I finally figured out a way to copy links with the bb format too (for uploading LO's) so now I have completely ditched FF. Chrome is just so much faster.

My bookmarks are all here on Chrome, and I'm the opposite of technical, so it must be something easy. LOL

Yeah I managed to get my bookmarks from FF to Chrome a few months ago. I love Chrome now, I don't use anything else.

I just need to see if I can get my bookmarks from this laptop to my new one I'm getting today. If not I'm going to have to copy and paste them all in to an email, which will take AGES.

Gemma, you should be able to export your bookmarks, save the file, transfer it to the new laptop, and then import them. Go to bookmarks -> organize and it's up at the top under import and backup.

I'm sticking with FF until I run into problems. I haven't had any issues, even with the latest version I just updated to last week or so, so I'm sticking around. I don't think my FF is slow, so I have no need.

I have heard lots of good things about chrome though, so I'm not surprised you love it

I've been having major FF issues, too, and I thought it was just me and my elderly computer. Glad to hear it's not just me - I installed Chrome this morning and it's great! Thanks, Darcy!

Explorer = evil LOL

Firefox and Chrome are intrinsically safer. Not foolproof, but safer. Firefox is much more versatile, and you can do so much to personalize it for yourself with tons of cool add-ons to make things easier and faster and work for you. Chrome is immensely faster than even FF, and while it has it's own features to personalize it, not as many have been written for it, yet. It is faster in part because it runs processes separately, so you don't have such a huge chunk of drain on your processor at one time like you do with FF. I'm amazed at how fast it is compared to my FF.

I LOVE Chrome too! I have my homepage tabs all set up so that I see the same 5 tabs every time I open it up, then of course I have my bookmarks bar for other important stuff and then bookmarks for everything else. Love the search too - just type anything in the address bar - too easy!

Heather - how are you setting the permanent tabs? Right now, I'm using speed dial for them, but I'd love t hem to be permanent!

darcy - if you click the tools menu off to the right and then scroll down to options, you can tell it which pages to open on startup. (hopefully that's what you were asking?)

I just selected this text on the page: Custom Cursive Handwriting Font Service by Darcy Baldwin, and the extension did the rest.

Hope that made sense - it sounds complicated, but it really isn't

It's a little different...and it'll take some personalizing to get used to how you used to do FF..but there's cool things in the extension for it. Speed dial is one of my favorite right now.

I'm too distracted at work to give it an honest shot right now. Maybe this weekend I'll install it at home and give it a shot.

Although I will say I browsed around to a few different places and saw no appreciable difference in the speed compared to FF. :shrugs:

Yeah, I tried it a month or so ago & didn't notice any real difference in speed either but when you are my end of the broadband spectrum there really isn't much software can do. The speed is what it is...

It's crazy faster that FF for me, that's why I switched.

Know what i miss? My FB toolbar. I haven't figured out a way to share a site on FB with Chrome.

There's an extention for that, Kellie - I'm on the laptop and haven't finished up setting Chrome here, and can't remember, but there is an extension for it. Check them out..the only thing I'm really missing is the extended bookmark toolbar like I had in FF...I can't find anything similar in Chrome..but I'll live

Okay, this thread inspired me to install Chrome. So far I like it, but the spell check thing is driving me crazy!! Is there any way to turn that off? I know it's probably a REALLY simple fix, but I can't figure it out!

From their help:

Click the Tools menu.
Select Options.
Click the Under the Hood tab.
Click Change font and language settings .
Click the Languages tab.
Select the "Check spelling" checkbox if you want Google Chrome to automatically check your spelling.
Select the language you want to use in the "Spell-checker language" drop-down menu.
Click OK to save your settings.
Add a new word to the dictionary

If the spell-checker keeps underlining a word that you often use, right-click the word and select Add to dictionary. At this time, it's not possible to remove a word from the dictionary.

Temporarily turn off the spell-checker

You can also temporarily disable the spell-checker for the field you're typing in. Follow these steps:

Right-click the text field.
Select Spell-checker options.
Deselect "Check the spelling of this field."

Thanks Darcy!!! You know why I had so much trouble figuring that out? I didn't realize you could scroll down on the "Under the Hood" menu! That was a real DOH! moment!

Ok, so I admit this thread made me curious so I installed Chrome. But I'm totally not getting it. It's not any faster than Firefox for me and it seems almost exactly the same as Safari? Is there any way to do multiow tabs?

I use FF, IE, and Chrome. First I'm still pretty stuck on FF but I rolled back to an older version and won't upgrade until the bugs get worked out. But at this point, I can hardly surf YouTube because of all the messages about my browser not being supported, I have to upgrade, yadda yadda. I really dislike IE but unfortunately that's the only browser my print shop will run in. And that's the ONLY thing I'm not liking about my print shop! My new 8.5x8.5 softcover book just arrived and I love it! But I also have Chrome. I will probably transition to Chrome to replace FF as it still looks too buggy to bother upgrading.

One of the main things I like about having multiple browsers handy is staying logged into my igoogle account with my main login so I can access my calendar and stuff and still be able to check other gmail addy's in the other browser.

Was it the Shareaholic one, Kellie? Mine has a green square in the task bar that you click when you're on any site, and it pops a facebook window up to share.

i know there's a few different extensions out there, but with the one i have i just click the icon for the extension on my browser. then when the little window opens up it says "share on facebook" at the very bottom. click that and it'll post the website to your wall.

Lynnette, a lot of folks have been having trouble with FF. I don't even remember when it started, but it was taking forever to get pages to load. That's why I switched. If you aren't having trouble with FF, and since you're on a Mac that is probably like light speeds ahead of my pathetic Dell, you are probably not missing out at all.

I downloaded the green extension to share stuff on FB; thanks for the tip, girls.

Lynette - there's an extention called Too Many Tabs, but I don't think all the features work on MAC. FF has been giving me fits for the last couple of months, and for as much as I loved them, I was just tired of the buggy mode that it was getting into for me. Chrome has just been infinitely better as far as speed and non-bug issues. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles that have been written for FF, but it's getting there.

I really miss the extended bookmark bar - badly.

I too got curious an installed Chrome. I really like it. It is much faster than IE, and I have installed some extensions. I installed SpeedDial and I am a bit confused.. how is it different from having a bookmark?
Thanks,
Alison
