When does it get dark outside in comparison to sunset? I've got to pin down a time for the wedding. We're doing an outdoor wedding...we want roughly 30 minutes for the ceremony and 2 hours for the reception. Projected sunset time for our wedding date is around 8:15 pm. Does it stay light post-sunset? I don't mind it getting dim out but I don't want to fool with artificial lighting so I don't want it getting dark. I originally was thinking 6 pm for the wedding but it's looking like I'm going to have to change it to 5 to be safe. What say you?

LOL Lena,

You want to know how long Twilight lasts...forever girl, forever! Sorry...I'm not sure...how long it lasts when because I think it really changes a lot as we get closer to fall. But that is the term for the time after the sun sets and before it gets dark (as well as the time it lights up before the sun rises). So you want LOTS of twilight!

if anyone can decipher this graph it may let you know though....

You could maybe email your local weatherman and ask? I know our station locally has emails for all the newscasters and the weathermen on the site that people can email them and alot of times they do answer the emails (im sure not all of the emails get answered LOL). You might get lucky and have him/her give you an answer

Otherwise though I would say maybe 15-20 minutes after sunset you have some light but it does start getting dark pretty quickly once the sun starts to set

you've got maybe 30 minutes of decent light post sunset most nights.

DH found this part of the Naval Observatory site that has all kinds of info. It looks like in your neck of the woods it is about 30 minutes or so (it depends a lot on latitude- think Alaska with lots of twilight or very little depending on the time of year but as you go towards the equator it evens out throughout the year).

WWID without you girls! Thanks kim! I think I've settled on a time now! Now...you were here for Parker's birth...next question is how are you going to make it from Texas for the wedding?
