Default One more question about names

Everyone always thought my parents were insane because they gave us all J names and our middle names all started with L. Of course Im not going to give you the full names but the first names of all of us (well my brother is thee exception his middle name started with E and that is what he went by was his middle name) so anyhow it was:

Jennifer
James
Julie
Jocelyn
and me Jessica

Really funny thing my mom had a long lost sister who my grandmother had put up for adoption. Im not sure why well because my grandma is long since passed away and never really shared any of this with my mom but I guess there was enough information my mother believed this woman was her sister and she found her back in like 1980 or 1981 or something. They actually lived within miles of each other too for a very long period of time and never knew about the other. My aunt I think only found out when her adopted mother died and told her she was adopted. Anyhow I think that is how the story went. I was very young and so alot of it was not shared with me. I think I was five at the time. Sooo anyhow the really weird funny thing is my aunt also named her children with the same starting letter only her letter was K so I have two female cousins:

Karen & Kelly.

LOL just thought that was kinda ironic.

So as you can imagine in my house when my mom or dad were frustrated with one of us and yelling for us it would be like this:

Jen....ju....joc....Jessica get your butt down here. LOL

So anyone else have parents crazy enough to name such a large family all with the same starting letter for first names? Or did you do this?

Oh another funny similarity is this:

When someone gets married the spouse almost always has the same first letter to their name or at least the same sounding letter. Examples:

my mom and dad-George & Geraldine
my husbands mom and dad- Rose and Robert
my husband and I- Johnny and Jessica
my sister and her husband- Gene & Jennifer
my other sister and her husband- Jeff and Julie
then my other sister - James and Jocelyn

(although Jennifer, Jocelyn and Julie all split up I think it is kinda funny) My daughter dated a Clayton and I joked with her that he was the one simply because her name is Crystal LOL

I have a BIG family of kids but we all have i guess "normal" names...though they weren't "normal" names when we were little...

lets see...
Laura
Ian
Dylan
Franz
Alma

and then I have half brothers named
Jordan
and
Jaemeson

and then my daughters name is
Jocelin LeAnne
It's funny because when we named her it was so low down on the name popularity list it was funny...and now she has a little girl in her class with the same name but spelled with a lyn instead of a lin....so they call them by the 1st and middle names...tho they still get all they're stuff mixed up including coats, lunch boxes....and papers for school :|

My name is Kristi. Having it start with a K is pretty normal. I met my spouse in highschool and we've been married over 20 years. His name is Kraig. Yep with a "K". Now that's alot more unusual! We definately did NOT choose a K name for our son. I did not want 3 K's in the family! Our son's name starts with an L!

Well what is hilarious and I did not even think about it when marrying my husband is that his last name is Knorr (silent K) and my middle name is Lenore. So my full name is now Jessica Lenore Knorr. I typically only use an initial now and I have in fact several times when we have been stopped by a police officer and he asks my full name and I tell him my name he will ask me if I am being serious with him. We were in an accident in November 2008 and the officer said what is your full name middle name included and I said Jessica lenore Knorr. he stopped what he was doing and said "No really stop playing with me what is your real name?" and I repeated "my real name is Jessica Lenore Knorr." I had to show him my Identification card to prove I was telling the truth LOL

My parents named me and my sister with the same first and middle initials so that we could get monogrammed clothes and pass them down. Do you know how many times we actually had something with a monogram? ONCE!!! Too funny!

My kids have different initials; it just worked out that way.

Think of the Duggars! All their kids' names begin with J...that's 19 J names in one house.

We're a bunch of odd balls.
Martin R, Diane L, Holly A & Dale B. (my parents, me and my brother)

We do have at least 1 set of Jr.s in each generation. My mom's dad and her oldest brother, her youngest brother and her son, and then my dad's dad and my dads youngest brother.

My mom did weird thing with my brother's names:

Jay
Jeff (well Jeffery...yes she spelled it that way...on purpose she say)
Bret
Brad

Then my sister and I came along and she "stopped"
Elizabeth
Melissa

Also my brother's Jeff and Bret have the same middle name (Alan) and it's not even a family name...she says she just liked it so much...I think she was tired of thinking of name or put in on the birth certificate as a mistake *lol*

And I can tell you that it doesn't matter if the names start with the same letter or not, my mother mixed up our names all the time and all my kids start with differnt letters (S, R, L, G, & C) and I mix up their names ALL THE TIME!! I sometimes even interchange the girl's names with the boy's names and vice versa!!!

My parents did the same initial thing, we all start with R and 2 of each of the same middle initials-

Robyn Lee
Rachael Lynn (me)
Ryan John
Renee Mary
Ross Michael
Randy Joesph

then my mom remarried and had another baby- she wanted to name him with an R and gave him her new husband's late brother's name for his middle name, but it still starts with a similiar initial- M

Riley Mark

everyone does the Re-Rob-Rach thing, going through the list to get the right name.. it's really annoying!

My sister, Robyn's husband's name is Ryan... and he has a sister named Rachel who's married to a Ryan who also has a sister named Rachel. Figure that one out lol

I'm Kimberly Diane and my sister is Kathy Dionne. We both hated it... we had the exact same initials and our teachers were constantly getting us mixed up (although this was mostly my sister as I was older). My parents are not the most creative. Then again, my mom was raised in the Amish culture, so I'm probably just lucky I'm not named Tillie or Lizzie or Fannie (which was my grandmother's name).

Christopher

we all have some variation of a grandparent's name as our middle name
grandmothers were Alice and Rose.
my sisters middle names are Allison and Rosella
my great grandmother's name was Elizabeth...and that's my middle name

My grandfather was Peter...and that's my brother's middle name.

Jordan's family is all J's except for their mom. Dad is Joseph, then it's Joseph, Jordan, Jadyn, and Julie.

I *SWEAR* we will not be naming our kids the same letters. Jordan wants to keep them all J's, and I'm not ok with that, lol.
My sister and I are Colleen and Caitlin, and no one ever got our names right, lol. I think name confusion/wrong names happens no matter what with parents, lol.

Jeff and his brother kinda did that with their kids. Jeff's son's middle name is on both sides of the family, but also the name of Jeff's brother, so two years later, Jeff's brother and SIL named their son M. [Jeff's middle name]. I think that's kinda cute.

Tyler thinks it's fun that he and Jeff have 'flipflopped' initials. Jeff is JTF and Tyler is TJF.

Oh, and my mom's middle name is Lee. Obviously, my name has Lee in it, too, (although I've just learned in the last couple years that it has some history on my biodad's side of the family, too) and my sister is Ashlee. I did not carry on the tradition, but if my sister were to have a DD, I can see her giving her a 'Lee' middle name.

My Dad's side did something nice with the middle name of the son (or I guess the first born son, but no one's ever had more than 1, lol), where the son's middle name is the fathers first name. So my Dad is Craig Paul (Paul was my grandfathers name), and my brother is Patrick Craig. Patrick was also a great grandfather somewhere down the line too, which is nice.

My mom's side carries a tradition through the first born girl, where their middle name is May. I'm Colleen May, my mom is Lynda May, my grandmother is Joan May, and I think my great and great-great grandmothers both had the middle name of May. So for me, that's a big consideration for what we name our first girl (since the tradition carries on through me). I *adore* the first name Ella with it, so she would be Ella May Swerbinsky. Jordan *HATES* that though, lol. I've got lots of time to wear him down though

Jordan's Dad and grandfather are both Joseph, but that tradition would carry on through his older brother. Although at the rate he's going, that's never going to happen.

my mother didn't give my sister or i middle names. no one ever believed us when we were growing up, they'd say it must be really awful if you are saying that you dn't have one. i took my maiden name as my middle name when I was married. My sister kept her maiden name so she still has no middle name or initial.

My mom and her siblings have a pattern with their names.

Girls are Connie and Carol
Boys are Jim, Jerry and Jeff

I vowed not to have any patterns or same letters or anything when I named my girls, but by the time we got to the second one, the name I fell in love with started with the same letter as my first one's name. I really, really didn't want to do the same letter thing, but I told myself that two A names would be okay because the starting sounds are different. I have an Abby and an Audrey. I absolutely feel in love with the name Audrey, and I couldn't give it up just because it started with an A.

I wanted to add that I can't stand same letter names and I can't stand alliteration names even more!! When we were pregnant with #1 and found out it was a girl everyone BEGGED us to name her Madison/Madelyn because they wanted to call her Maddy McFarlane!! I just cringe everytime I hear that!!! Even when #2 turned out to be a girl again everyone BEGGED us!! Even to this day (almost 13 years later) my dad still brings up how he wishes we would have used Maddy for one of the girls!!!

I wanted to avoid the same letter names for my kids so bad, that by the time #4 & #5 rolled around I was very limited on name choices I pitched a ton of names I love because they started with the same letter as one of the other kids!!!

I did do something "weird" with my kids names....they go in descending alphabetic order (S, R, L, G, C). That also limited my name choices...it was hard for C. Hubby actually wanted to name him an "A" name just to further "solidify" him being the last baby!!!

Oh my husbands family did something kinda weird also. It goes in order from oldest to youngest

Robby
Rosie
Jimmy
Johnny
Billy

First they did matching initials and Im sure there would have been a B if anyone had came after Billy but second all their kids names end with the long E sound even though those are not their given names they all got nicknamed whicch stuck with that sound. Nobody calls my Johnny-John or Robby-Rob etc

My parents just named us as they saw fit - we all have different names, but they all sounded good with our last name.

My sisters & I are:
Dianna Lee (she goes by Dian now)
Tara Renee
Breanne Lynne (she goes by Bree - you guys know who she is)
Jaedyn Chantelle

My brother is:
Dustin Jon
His middle name is a mash of my dad's, & 2 grandpas first name initial. J - John (maternal gpa), O - Olaf (fraternal gpa), N - Norman (dad).

I thought my mom was the only one that did that! My sister and I have the same middle name. We give my mom crap about running out of ideas all the time.

My kids are all C names. And to take it one step farther, they are all 6 letters and they all end with N. At first that was a coincidence but by the time our third one was born, the only names dh would consider were names that fit that pattern. Their middle names don't follow a pattern, although my oldest's middle name is Lyn and that is dh and I's middle name as well. His is Lynn and mine is Lyn. We agreed before our first was born that if it was a boy it would be spelled his way and if it was a girl it would be spelled my way.

No rhyme or reason with our family. My parents are Chuck and Jan and they had Paula Ann (me), Geri Lynn, and Robert David.

I have Zachary Charles, Hannah McKell, and Rebekah Lynn

My sister has Andrew Kordell, Madeline Nicole, Jonathan Davis, Nicolas Alexander, and Katherine Elizabeth

My brother has Megan Renee, Scott Brendan, and Abigail Claire

Let's see---my Grammy has twin sisters whose names rhyme: Elaine & Lorraine.

I'm not entirely sure where it started, but there's a rash of Dennis Georges and George Dennises in my family. I can still remember all the drama when George D the fifth named his son Michael.

My Grammy had twins: Donald Foster and Daniel Francis. Donald passed away when he was 9. Daniel named his first born for his brother, his second is a junior. My cousin Donald married a woman who cannot have children. My cousin Daniel named his second born Donald Foster, to continue to carry on the name of his uncle. His first born is not a third--he's Gage Weston. (Third baby was a girl--Ashleigh something.)

Along the lines of the Donald/Daniel story: a former roommate had twin uncles named Shane and Shawn. Shane named his first born Shawn and Shawn named his first born Shane. Both of their first born children were girls.

I lived near a family with five girls: Ruby, Diamond, Pearl, Emerald and Opal.

I once dated a guy who went to high school with identical twins named Lynda and Linda. He showed me the yearbook, so he wasn't just feeding me a story.

This was the one I didn't get, at all. Years ago, while working for Six Flags, a brother/sister pair joined my staff. Jermarcus (he did go by Marcus) and Jermelody. Jermarcus had a son named Jermichael and a daughter named Jermelanie. Jermelody named her sons Jermitchell and Jermatthew. I'm pretty sure the rest of the family was named in the same manner. Yet, in all of that, there wasn't a single Jermaine anywhere? I did ask Marcus about it once and he just said he had no idea where or when it started, it was just something they did.

Worked with a guy who came from a family where all men were named Zoilo after an uncle who'd been murdered. They all went by their middle names though. He considered bucking the trend with his son, but wound up naming him Zoilo Brandon.

My mom named me and my sister with "G's": Giseli and Grazielli (I chose her name). I named DD with the 'G' too - Giulia.
That gaves us 3 generations of woman with the 'G's'
DH name, middle and surname starts with 'F's' - 3F's is one of his nicknames. If I had a boy I would name him after DH. That would gave 4F's as his initials.
My great-great grandpa, great-grandpa, grandpa and my father are 'Antonio Coelho' (coelho means 'bunny' in English):
Antonio Coelho
Antonio Coelho Filho (filho = 'son' in English)
Antonio Coelho Júnior (Júnior means Junior )
Antonio Coelho Neto (neto means 'grandson' in English) = my father.
Aaaaand... my other grandpa, my mom's father, is also an Antonio. hehee

My kids have similar sounding names that begin with the same letter. ANd had we had a third I would have stuck with the same naming pattern.

DH is one of 4 and they all have very dissimilar names but everytime their mom was annoyed with one of them she'd shout "Bri-Mis-Tray-Brad..you know who you are!" So I don't feel at all bad getting the kids names mixed up

No intentional stuff with my family...

I'm Angela Nicole (nicknamed Nikki at birth)
sis- Lisa Michelle
sis - Heather Leigh (Leigh after my dad whose middle name is Lee)
bro - Gabriel Boyd (Boyd was my mom's maiden name)

DH's name is weird though..his full name is Charles Bryant..and for some strange reason after he was born his mom decided she liked Brian better..so that's what she started calling him and never changed it on his birth certificate. He didn't even know that wasn't his "real" name until he was like 12! It's so weird to me..and can be very confusing when we get into legal documents and stuff.
