Question Wondering if someone can help. Trying to print an 8x8 Shutterfly Book

And...

When I drag and drop my image onto the cover part of the book, it for some reason, zooms in on the image instead of showing the whole image (I really hope that makes sense).

Now, when I take the same image and put it on say, page 2, the whole image displays like it should.

Im creating an 8x8 book and I have resized my images to 8x8, what gives? Also, what size should they really be to avoid having anything cut off?

I would truly appreciate any insight. Im over here pulling my hair out. I actually tried to call... That was pretty much a joke! The man in India had NO CLUE. lol!

Here is the size info...

As far as the zooming issue, I swear it's a Shutterfly issue because it happens to me occasionally too. If you delete the layout and upload it again and then insert it in the book it will probably be ok.

Thank you for the reply!

I did try deleting the LO and re-uploading. No luck. I might just have to put this down for now and go eat some pizza or something.

I've done that too...sign out, do something else and then start again tomorrow Shutterfly can be very frustrating at times, but they make nice books.

I used Wendyzine's Shutterfly actions last time I made a SF book. I couldn't get it straight without her help.

Changing your browser might help, too.

But Im doing it right, right? I just want to rule out user error too. My page is sized to 8x8 but for whatever reason the cover wont show the whole image.

Thanks again!

This time Im really walking away from it! lol.

Maybe the cover image is not the same size as the pages within the book. For example, I've seen books where the image shows through a box in the front cover, etc ... It wouldn't hurt to double check the book type you selected to verify.

Yep, they are not truly 8X8. Well when you get done and you get the book it is but they have guidelines and templates you have to go by in order for them to turn out right. It is kinda frustrating but the books turn out nice when you finally figure it all out! The shutterfly site has the dimensions and templates that you download and use. Hope this helps!

Did you get it figured out yet? Are you talking about the book cover or the first page?

The book cover.

So, I think I did figure it out. The front and back covers are most definitely not true 8x8. I think it has something to do with the spine? Anyway, I have to move the crop to get most of my image on the cover, making it not centered anymore. So I went into pse and made the cover "off center" on purpose so that when I dragged and dropped it onto the cover of the book it would be centered. (I hope Im making sense!) LOL

Gheese! What a PAIN!

Thanks for all the help and follow up!

You need to download the cover guide at shutterfly. It's offset a little bit. Just use the guide and you'll have no problem. I've printed 20 or so digital scrapbooks with shutterfly starting back in 2006. I had no issues as long as you use the guide and you might want to leave a little paper below the guide on all sides, just incase they wrap it off. I have had books turn up with a little white border along the bottom.

and, just in case you ever make another one, you don't have to resize your layouts. I create mine 12x12 and upload them to SF that way to make my 8x8 books.

Here are the links for the specs and templates for making a cover. And pages to be sized perfect.

Yep, I just realized that when I forgot to resize one of my LOs. One less step.

And I will definitely be using the guides from now on! So happy to see they have those.

They have templates for pages, front cover, back cover and spine. I just create all my layouts in the 12x12 templates(They measure 11.85x11.85 and have guidelines of where not to put things you don't want cropped off). I never make a 12x12 book though. I upload and create my 12x12 book(without a cover), make an 8x8 copy(it lets you do this in the preview part of the project). Go back and upload my 8x8 cover( I do use the 8x8 cover templates because I can't remember if I had trouble when those got sized down or not). Easy, right? hahaha.I do love how their books come out though!
