Default class size rant update.

It appears I was not the only parent venting and some must have been far more open about it then I was.

they are adding one more K teacher, bringing us up to 7.

This will reduce class sizes to 21-22.

They are only putting 12-14 in the new class since the teacher will have LESS time to bond with the kids since the year is 1/2 over.

WE decided not to request the new teacher because Will really loves his teacher and I don't think would do well with the change.

---

I also talked to a mom about the GT program at our school. If he "passes" the tests he will be in advance classes the entire year, not just for an hour or so a week. There is one GT teacher per grade and the kids are all together....PLUS there are several after school programs ONLY for GT.

I'm not 100% sure I like what I've heard. It appears the GT kids are put on a pedestal and offered things NO ONE else is.

I've heard they get cocky and an "I'm better then the rest of you" attitude. WE WILL NOT TOLERATE THAT! I hope the incidenets I heard about are a rare few.

But I'm sure you can prepare him for this kind of behavior from the other kids, and that you won't tolerate it. I'm sure there are things and discussions you can do at home to keep him grounded. Maybe even doing charity work to start, showing that while he is able to have things others can't doesn't mean others don't deserve special things too...

I'm really thinking about involving my 6 year old in charity work or volunteer work in some way. She doesn't have the cocky my poo don't stink attitude, but she's having issues with a mean girl in class and I want to keep her from getting angry about it. I keep telling her that there must be a reason that girl is mean, and that just because she's mean doesn't me you have to be mean. I also told her that the girl might just be mad or angry about something and that's why she acts that way. Keeping my daughter humble and getting her to understand her environment and people in it (and their behavior) is important to me. Sorry this is off the topic, but I feel like when they are giving and feeling the special feeling of helping, they forgive and kind of keep themselves on track.
