Default What color should I paint our bathroom?

We have this shower curtain:

these towels:

these rugs:

and I'm trying to decide between these wall colors:

My original plan was to go with the charcoal, then I realized that my favorite color lately is purple...so I was thinking plum might be a good option. Then again, my favorite wall color is cherry red so now I'm conflicted. Red is kind of my signature kitchen color though, so I'm not sure I want it in the bathroom. I don't know. I do really love deep, bold colors on the wall but I hate painting bathrooms so I have to get it right the first time LOL.

Hence the asking for help!

What do you think?

Before I saw your color choices I thought Green - like a brighter green. But of your choices I love the purple - unless your hubby is like mine and would think the purple is too girly.

I actually think a sorta muted blue color would look nice but thats just my opinion.. hehe

out of those options though i would probably go with the charcoal

Can I vote for a pretty apple green even though it's not an option? That's totally what I would do!! But since this isn't my bathroom I'll vote for purple!!

LOL you girls are funny. No green, no blue...for a reason of course!

We have a jack and jill bathroom.

Leading to the kids' room...which is "Little Sprout" green...it's hard to describe but it's kind of leaf green.

Leading to our room...which is still white at this moment but I've already picked out a bright teal I'm painting it ... (as soon as I have TIME to paint it that is) . Everything in my bedroom is black and white like the bathroom.

So since it's sandwiched between a blue and a green already, I want something different. The living room, dining room and toy rooms are all "coffee cake" tan so I've got the neutral in the main area, I'm going cool in the bedroom and bathroom.

Chalkboard paint, how I love thee. You could put any pattern you had the patience to draw...and then never let the kids near it... because they would love to smudge it. LOL

Ooh, this isn't a bad idea! I painted my entire kitchen with chalkboard paint in 2006 and did enjoy it. Chalkboard paint is pretty expensive though, and when I did the kitchen in it my kitchen was tiny

If you could just go ahead and paint it purple, that would be awesome, 'kay? I want want want want a purple bathroom but it's not time to paint mine yet.

but i kind of like the apple-y green idea. cause with black? the green will pop.

I would go blue or green, but since you don't want those I would pick the charcoal. Purple =

I'm sick of the red in my house, but I'm trying to lighten everything... so charcoal or purple. I'm kind of into gray right now, so I'd probably go with a light gray and do something like this to bring in the purple:

I was going to say red cause I love it with black and white, but since you said your kitchen is already red, I vote for purple.

I think the charcoal would make it too dark with the other charcoal-colored things. I think the plum would be perfect -- plum perfect!

I was going to suggest aqua/teal color because that coupled with black/white is my favorite color combo!! The other colors seem kinda dark to me and I like the bathroom to be bright and open feeling so Im not really sure which one of the options Id choose honestly

Haha Rob would never in a million years let me paint our bathroom purple again (it was light lavender a few years ago and he hated it), in fact if it was up to him our entire house would be painted red & blue and be decorated with KU memorabilia lol!

I love that shower curtain (it's been on my wishlist forever!) and of those three colors would probably go with the charcoal color.

It would look really cool with red on the bottom and grey on the top separated by a chair rail or stainless steele (sp?) rivits. But I agree with the others, if you are only going with a single color, purple is probably the way to go.

When I painted my living room plum, my dh was out of town. I got one entire wall painted and thought to myself "hmmm, I don't think I mentioned to him that I was painting or told him what color or anything...". LOL. Thankfully he doesn't really care, but yeah. He came home to a plum living room one weekend.

I love the purple! I'm doing the front wall in my living room a dark purple colour at the end of the month!

I'd definitely choose something lighter for my own bathroom (dark colours make the room itself dark), but you should go where your heart calls you, so if you love purple, go for it.

Ok can I unvote purple?!! Do this! That way when you get tired of a color, you can just change out the accesories and not repaint!! I love the idea of purple, but depending on the light in the bathroom it may come out too dark. And no on the red in the bathroom, not right in there.

As much as I LOVE the color red, I totally agree with the purple.
If you weren't renting, I'd say put in some beadboard wainscotting on the bottom (painted white in a nice wipe-able, easily clean-able paint) and then do the purple on top.
