Default St. Patty's Day activities?

So I want to do something fun with Blake for St. Patty's day. I *think* I remember seeing a page from someone (maybe Tracy) about a leprechaun visiting and creating havoc around the house. Anyone have any suggestions? Foods to eat, activities to do, etc. Thanks everyone!!

Celebrating my oldest's birthday!!!! I can't believe he's going to be 9!

We probably won't do much - maybe green milk and chocolate coins.

considering the fact that i'm a picky eater....I doubt we'll be doing the corned beef & cabbage! lol but I can definitely down some mashed potatoes!!!

Happy early b-day to your son Kat!! I hope he has a fun and fantastic day!!

So green milk & chocolate coins. I could totally do that. Any additional ideas?

hmm... I think we are going to actually do beef stew and cabbage - not really into corn beef. We might make sugar cookies cute into four leaf clovers (using a heart shaped cookie cutter)... otherwise I'm not sure...

You and Blake could make fun St. Patrick's antennas... I have a tutorial over at *cough* hybrid chick *cough*...

We start off building traps the day before (gotta get them started today! it's going to be a bigger engineering feat this year). We build a leprechaun trap, put shiny sparkling things in it to entice the leprechaun, and when it's tripped (never catch the sucker), he leaves skittles and chocolate gold coins plus 2 real gold dollar coins skattered about as he escapes.

He also playes tricks in the house like turning toilet water green (put some food coloring drops in the tank, and it changes colors the first time they flush (unless your toilet leaks, then it'll be green when they see it). He turns milk green, eggs green, etc. He'll often do things like move furniture into weird places, make the TV speak in Spanish all the time (we have SAP on our back television, and I might send them back to watch a video for rest time). He leaves foot prints all over the house (I just use some green tempura paint and paint little footprints across the appliances and other surfaces that will clean off.

We bake Irish soda bread, and I usually try to have a corned beef brisket in the crock (you can get them pre-pared at most grocery stores this week), and we do mashed potatoes since cooked cabbage does not happen at our house.

We'll also do a little map work, craft and study on Ireland's history and St. Patrick's story that day.

Here are some ideas

And I'm thinking of trying this one tonight while the kids are gone to TKD:

I was thinking of slipping a drop or two of food coloring in Dh's bowl so that when he pours milk in it turns green. DS isn't old enough to care much, but he fell in love with this $1 leprechaun cup, so we got it for him. Only problem is that it's got the glitter inside, so keeping liquids in it doesn't happen.

And I can't believe you people don't love Corned Beef and Cabbage! I must love it because of my Irish heritage. I can't wait for it every year!

This is the page I did after St. Patty's day at our house last year. It was the first time we'd ever done anything for it and I got most of the ideas from the lovely ladies here. I'm still trying to figure out what to do this year.

Heather - thanks for reminding me about Shamrock Shakes!!! I think we'll do that instead of making cookies (especially since I just made cookies on Saturday). Yum yum yum!!! Love your page!

And then for supper I think we will go to McDonalds and have shamrock shakes.

My kids have Leprechaun treat boxes that they leave out on the window sill. They are small (b/c Leprechauns are small) and the leprechauns have to put treasure into them. They then hide the treat boxes and if the kids don't find them in one day, the leprechauns get their treasure back. If the kids find them, they get to keep the treasure. It's not Too difficult b/c leprechauns are short and they leave gold shimmer around where they've been.

I need to try and find some ideas for older kids. C's actually out of town today, so I can't do much, but maybe for next year.

So Blake has had so much fun this morning! I didn't go too extravagant - just a couple of little things: green milk, green toilet, a shamrock trail to a treasure (a leprechaun cup, skittles, gold coins, mint kisses and a st. patty's day headband) and a messy family room. We didn't build traps because we didn't know a leprechaun was visiting until this morning - but next year I think we'll make traps And next year I am definitely doing the lucky charms cereal - I didn't get the chance to buy any yesterday. Definitely a fun day

Such fun ideas! Since I'm here by myself today, I don't think I'll be celebrating - other than to send my little brother (Patrick) a funny card of some sort. But you all have some FANTASTIC ideas . . . I have to say that from reading everything on Facebook and in this thread, imo Darcy is the Queen O' St. Paddy's Day!

First year I've done something and SO WORTH IT!!! First, we set traps last night. It did frighten my 6 yr old so we had to make a note on his door that there was NO gold, Lucky Charms and anything he would want in there. So stay out!! When they woke up there was green footprints on their dump trucks, moved traps, green milk, green pee, and skittles and coins!! So fun to see their faces!! Oh, and I painted them shirts. That took a lot longer then I expected!!

Our trap was sprung too...so we didn't catch him, but he did do the green milk, green toilet water, turned the chairs upside down and made our family pictures look like leprechauns (idea I got off of Pinterest).

We are having some St. Patrick's day fun around here too. Our trap was sprung...but no leprechaun, just filled will "gold" coins, green toilet water and green milk. We are having Lucky Charms for breakfast, rainbow fruit tray for snack, shamrock sandwiches for lunch, Shepard's Pie for dinner, and Rainbow layer cake for dessert.

here is Lilly in her St. Paddy's day shirt, and Ava with her shamrock tattoo -

I totally borrowed a lot of the ideas in this thread! (BTW, ya'll rock!) Our leprechaun dyed the milk green, TP'd all the green plants in the house, left a trail of green candy (Andies mints in the shiny green foil wrapper), and turned the toilet water green.

I didn't know if DD would go for it, but she completely bought it. Last night, she told me, "This has been the funnest St. Paddy's Day ever!"
