Default Marriage question

My dictionary doesn't give me the answer.
At a wedding you need one or two witnesses.....you have the best man, but how's a woman called? I can almost hear it....but it's not in my head right now.

Can anyone give me the answer?

Maid of Honor if she's NOT married herself or MATRON of Honor is she herself is married.

The maid of honor is a bridesmaid, but she's the head one..and the one that will sign for you as your witness. Bridesmaids are anyone you have standing up with you, just as the groomsmen stand with the groom, but the Best Man is the head one.

I'm sorry...I thought you were asking for the Witness's name. I don't reply back very often and then when I do, I mess it up! LOL But I think Darcy has explained it perfectly for you! Thanks Darcy for helping me out!

No, you explained well!
I just thought it was something different. Here in Holland you can also ask your mother to stand up for you. It seems a bit strange to name her bridesmaid....that's all! I think I will go for another title for my layout. Problem solved. Hahaha
