Default Vacation Help

Ok.. so several months ago I posted about the possibility of taking a road trip to seattle.. just the husband and I. However, I'm thinking that it may not be the place for us..

SO I need inexpensive trip ideas. To give you an idea of location I am just above montana (2 hours north) so can you think of anywhere that we could maybe go that would fit a modest budget and be QUIET? QUIET is the key word - so I don't want to hear anyone suggestion vegas or anything silly.. haha

It is our 10 year anniversary this summer and we will be going in October to celebrate

A mountain resort in Montana? Yellowstone? Glacier National Park in Montana? the Northwoods in Minnesota? Coeur d'Alene in Idaho? Or, best suggestion yet, the fabulous Fargo, ND where you could chill with me. Its not that far.

I went to both ND and SD when I was younger.. not fargo though . We actually got evacuated when we were at a hotel near mount rushmore. there was a HUGE forest fire.. one of the times i remember most about growing up. haha

OH and in north dakota - I *THINK* it was bismarck - we went to this restaurant and they served fresh bread and I swear it was the best bread I ever had haha..

ps.. random but do you hate that there was the movie fargo made? what are your opinions on this

(none of this have to do with my original question but its ok lol)

I went to High School in Bismarck. I can't imagine what restaurant though. lol

Yes, I do hate that movie, mostly cause its acutally set in Brainerd, MN and is actually a MN accent (and its a subtle accent at that). Only about 5 minutes of the actual movie is in Fargo, pretty close to as much is in Bismarck, which I bet you don't even remember. lol Fargo just sounds cooler than Brainerd, I guess. Also, if you were entering Fargo from MN, you would never have seen that sign in the middle of no where cause you are already in the middle of town. We have a twin city on the MN side. So, yes, it does annoy me.

Along the same lines of this, Sandpoint, ID is a really pretty little town too. My DH is from there.

What about the Oregon Coast (I'm thinking Newport)? There are some cheaper places to stay there, and they are very quiet little towns along there. It was gorgeous too, and you see whales migrating all the time. If that's too far, what about Portland Oregon. It's not too far from Seattle, your original destination, and it's a lovely city. I didn't find it too fast paced. There are parks and free public transportation in the downtown core, lots of great restaurants and shopping.

Bozeman Montana is AMAZING. Just check it out. And it's not far to QUIET from there! (My grandmother lives there 6 months out of the year and we visit often. We love it there). Big Sky isn't far from there and it's a must-see, too. The Gallitan River is where the movie A River Runs Through It was shot. (Mmm. Brad Pitt.)

I'm thinking you need to come to Appleton, Wisconsin. Come see me... then I'll let you have your quiet...

The Northwoods of Wisconsin are fabulous! Quiet... beautiful... lots of cute festivals. Here is a fun website that has videos of places to visit around the state.... http://www.discoverwisconsin.com/Des....aspx?sdid=221

gosh i'd be annoyed about the movie too!! wow!

these are great ideas! lynnette i'm only about 4 hours from there so that would be totally dooable - I've always wanted to visit the oregon coast. I was saying earlier today that maybe we should just not really plan.. drive and see where it takes us.. but i'm betting if we plan it out i could probably find way better deals online etc beforehand.

Well...you *could* come to Manitoba.

What about a weekend getaway at some place like Kananaskis?

Seriously, if you're coming anywhere near ND, we are getting together!!

It is our 10 year anniversary this summer too, and we are in Oregon. Oregon is beautiful! When is your anniversary? Ours is August 4th.
