Default Kindle users..

You do have some limited web browsing with Kindle, right? If I got one..I'd be able to check email, but not browse flash sites, etc.

you are such a big help :P

I'm thinking of asking for one for Christmas from the families..everyone chipping in together..because it's educational, right? right? Lots of books on it we can read that we can't even get from the library anymore..yeah..yeah.

But I'm debating between the wi-fi and the 3G. I don't have any capabilities with my phone, so was wondering if I could even do just email with it while we were out if we had signal.

I got the wi-fi just because I could download a book whenever, where ever. (and I do!) Hmm.....now I feel like I am not using it to it FULL capabilities and may need to play with it some more.

Darcy - you should check and see if your library has eBooks that you can download for free. In that case you might want to look at a Nook.

Can't you do that with a Kindle, too? What's the big difference between the two?

Kindle is about to launch library lending..the email I got said before the end of the year.

You can access email on your kindle...I just always use my phone b/c it's easier. The web browsing is limited but I think they're working on improving it etc. But checking gmail is easy I just tried it before I posted to make sure

LOVE my kindle

LOVE my NookColor - I only get books from the library or the free ones so far. You can access the web with flash, email, lots of apps too (some are free like crosswords and sudoku, chess, etc.) I don't have a smart phone so this was the way to go for me.

Yes, you can, but it's a little clunky.

I don't use it for email often but the kindle is workable for email and the keyboard is bigger than the one on my phone which I appreciate. I don't go on the web with it though. I have the wifi version because the 3G doesn't work well where I live.

It's a great .pdf reader too

I have the Kindle 3g, and I really have trouble accessing almost anything on the "experimental" browser... I think it sucks.

That means nothing to me, Tanyia, since I don't have one. 'splain!

I'm getting the 3G version if I get one.

I would go with the Nook color personally (although, I don't know if it has 3G capabilities). The broswer is better than my android phone. I will be interested to see how the kindle works with library books. My understanding is that the Kindle does not use pdf's. I wonder if they are changing it use PDF's or if you will have checkout some other form of library books (of which there might not be many).

In my research I've seen that the Kindle does use pdfs. Here is their blurb on that. But, I don't know why Nooks can read library books and Kindle can't YET.

Native PDF support allows you to carry and read all of your personal and professional documents on the go. With Amazon's Whispernet service, you can send your documents directly to your Kindle and read them anytime, anywhere. Now you can add notes and highlights, use the dictionary look-up, and read password-protected PDFs. You can also magnify PDFs by viewing them in landscape mode, and zoom into any area of a PDF up to 300% and pan to easily view small print and detailed tables and graphics.
