Brian is leaving again on deployment. Mobilizes on Dec. 1 but we don't know yet if he will actually deploy before Christmas or after. This is deployment number three.
![]() This time I'm more upset for the kids...Avery missed him last time but he was only 3 turning 4 so it wasn't as hard for him. Now he's 6 and he LOVES his Daddy. We haven't told him yet. And Ella too..she loves her Daddy so this is going to be so hard for them. So I'm sorry in advance for all the whiny "I hate deployment" threads I'm sure I'll be starting once he leaves. ![]()

UGH. Sorry Nikki. I don't know how you do it. You amaze me each time with your strength during the times he is away. And you just go ahead and post those threads. We will love you no matter how whiny you get.

That's got to be hard Nikki! I don't know how the military & deployment works, so forgive me if this is a stupid question, lol. How many times can a soldier be deployed? I thought Brian had a permanent job where you live?

That's so hard, sweetie. My SIL is here in Utah with us (stationed in GA) while her hubby is deployed in Afghanistan for a year. It's been fun to have her, but I see how hard it is for her and her 6 kids (one just got married) she has kids from 2 to 16 at home. If it helps, please know that people like me and my family really appreciate the sacrifce these military men & women are making for our country, and I can't imagine how hard it is. You're so tough and always handle it so well. If you complain once in awhile here, I don't blame you one bit.
xoxo

Thanks everyone. All I can really say is that he'll be in Africa this time..9 months in country.
There's not really a limit on how often he can be deployed..just whenever the Army says so. Brian is Army National Guard but he's AGR or Active Duty. Normally a national guardsman will have a civilian job and then do his 1 wkend a mo/2 weeks a year thing, but Brian is full time..so his regular job is within the national guard. Right now his job is/was in recruiting (like the boss of that in layperson terms lol) but he was pulled to a Special Forces Unit for this deployment. They needed an officer of his rank and so they just pulled the name of the AGR soldier next up to deploy and unfortunately that was Brian.

Nikki I'm sorry to hear this. I know it's tough on a family when a family member deploys...I couldn't imagine it being my husband. Hang in there. You're strong. You have all of us here at SSD to support you.
Thank your husband for me for his service and sacrifice.

I feel for you Nikki and I know what you're going through. DH was in a select unit of the Marines and would deploy all the time - sometimes for just a couple weeks, sometimes a couple months, sometimes a lot longer. I got used to it because that is who and what he was, but it didn't make it easier. He was usually in a lot of danger and that didn't help either. Vent/whine all you want, we'll listen. It is hard on the kids, but they adjust better than we adults do - I always found that if I didn't dwell on daddy they wouldn't either. Not that we didn't talk about him, we did, but we focused on our everyday life to try to make it as routine as possible. (granted we only had 1 child for most of his service - DD was a surprise late in life child - lol

Oh and I hope they wait til after christmas to sendc him out!

I was kind of relieved that it wasn't Iraq or Afghanistan again...but there's some serious stuff going on in parts of Africa plus he's deploying with Special Forces and basically can't tell me anything about where or what he's going to be doing. That part scares me.
Right now I think I'm still in the "denial" phase. When I first found out I was angry and sad..but mostly angry..that's how I tend to deal with it at first. Now I'm trying to just NOT think about it. I don't want to tell Avery yet. I'm just trying to focus on today and not think about how much the holidays are going to suck again this year. Then yesterday DH came home and said they're sending him over for 2 weeks this month for an advanced scouting blah blah..that's AFTER he gets back from a week of training at Ft. Walton this coming week..so basically he'll be gone most of September..then 2 more weeks in October and who knows what in Nov. This year is our 10th wedding anniversary (Dec. 29.) We'd planned on a trip away to celebrate but who knows if we'll even get to do that now.

True, although for little kids, when Dad (or Mom, very often it is Mom these days) is deployed, it doesn't really matter where they go, because all they know is that their parent is gone.
![]() It does make it less worrisome for the parent who stays behind, though. |

Nikki when he gets deployed like that does he get leave during the deployment or will he be gone for the full nine months?
Also so sorry about the anniversary. I hope you'll have some time to celebrate before he goes for both Christmas and your anniversary (and your little girl's birthday is also around christmas too right?) |

I'm sorry Nikki, that has to be super hard for your family.
I volunteer with the OpLove program and I recently photographed a homecoming and his wife told me this was his 4th deployment since he'd been in the AF. The couple is very young (like 22-23 I think) with a baby and he's been gone every single spring/summer on deployment. I just can't imagine going through that... If you get a chance you should look into the program though and see if there are any participating photographers in your area. The program is free and you could have family photos taken before Brian leaves and then he gets an album of the photos sent to him.

Oh Nikki I know that was NOT the news you wanted to hear! (never really but still...).
And I get you on it being different as the kiddos get older. When they are just babes, you are their world, but as they get older they definitely "need" that Daddy time (boys especially I think). This is why I'm even considering moving to Kuwait. I have no desire to move there, but my desire to keep our family together is stronger. You don't have that choice. You are a strong woman, but feel free to break down a time or two, you are only human! Big hugs!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Okay now y'all have me all teary lol. Thanks so much for the encouraging words...it means a lot!
It is going to be hard on Avery...and I'm SO glad we decided to postpone selling our house and moving this year. We're still close to my parents which is good for Avery b/c he can have lots of Papaw time. And one good thing that may come from this is that when he gets back Brian will probably get the command over the unit here in town. That would mean no more 3hr commute every day.
