Default full time child care rates...need advice

I am looking into watching one little girl (4 months) 9 hours a day, to get a little extra income for my family. The people said that they would be willing to pay up to 15 dollars an hour, and now are asking if they can pay a weekly rate. I am fine with that, but they want to know what I would ask. I do not want to drastically over charge, but I also want to make it worth my time. Anyone out there do daycare, or pay for daycare? What is the going rate? Thanks for any advice you can give me.

LOL Here, people who babysit full time get about $25-30 a day. I get $5 an hour to babysit a 7 year old girl after school each day so at most I get $75 a week. Maybe just give them a discount on what it would be if they paid you $15 an hour for the 9 hours a day ($675) so maybe ask $600?

We used to have a family friend watch our oldest in her home for 6 months when she was born. It was for just the work day (8 hours tops, usually less), we provided formula, diapers, wipes, etc. And we paid her $100/week and that was a steal. And now we pay about $200 or so per week for both my girls at a licensed daycare. I think it depends on what the area you live in costs. But if they were willing to pay $15/hour I would say give a small discount of what that would be as a straight total.

I saw our church day care charges about $50 a day... more or less given age of child.

I just put my kids in daycare 1 day per week & she is charging me $45/day (2 ages 1/5 & 2.5 kids from 9a-5p, & one 4.5 from 12n-5pm, she picks up the oldest from preschool & serves lunch/snacks). When I was calling around, another place wanted $27/day/kid.

I was watching my friends 2 little ones (2.5 & 4.5) 2-3 days per week, 12 hours/day (3 meals & snacks/day), she paid me $40/day.

Here the rates are $110-$150/week for 1 child over age 2. $15/hour is really high! If that's what they are willing though, go for it.

When Luke was in daycare, it was at a church. We paid $120/week up until he was potty trained. Then it went down to $95/week.

ETA: He was full time- usually about 7 a.m. until 3 or 4 p.m.

When I had a home day care, I charged $100/week. When my youngest went to a day care center, I paid $185/week. I think home day cares are still around the $100/week around here.

wow I am always amazed at these threads how much people pay for daycare. I charged about 60-75 a week per child and that was about 10 or so years ago. When I was a teenager I got 1-2 dollars an hour. If I was to babysit one child now I would probably charge 125 dollars a week

I have been paying for daycare off and on for the last 18 years! I pay roughly $275 every 2 weeks and it has been the same whether they were an infant or toddler....I would check what the local rates are by calling maybe the YMCA and just a few other local in home daycare providers. The other thing is, I am paying somebody that is licensed and I think that makes a difference as well.....

eta: mine is in daycare from 0700-430 pm every day....

When I started providing child care in my home, back in 2004, my rate was $25.00/day per child. When I closed my daycare this July (2011), my rates were at $32.00/day per child. Parents paid for a full time spot regardless of days needed.

My hours were dependent on each individual families needs and I provided well balanced, nutritious meals and snacks (parents provided all baby food/formula).

I'm not sure where you are located, but I would check the rate for a nanny service in your area to make a comparison. I used a temporary nanny service in Portland (and paid her $12/hour). This group also placed full-time nannies in homes in the area too. I suspect the pay for the nanny was similar, but for the FAMILIES they paid a large 'finding fee' to the placement agency and then a weekly fee to the agency too.

So I would say if you are asking to be paid something similar to what you might recieve through an agency, the family gets a better rate overall, because they don't also have to give additional money to the placement agency.

Your rate can be alot higher than a 'daycare' situation because you are giving that child one-on-one care! Now, if you were watching 4 kids in your home, that would be a different situation.

When my girls were in daycare several years ago we paid $100/wk for the first child and $70/wk for the second child so a total of $170/wk and we paid for a full week whether the girls were there or not. I'm now a SAHM and just started watching my 2mo old nephew and they are paying me $125/wk which I think is a fair rate for an infant in our area.

Thanks for all your responses, I did some research and talked to the couple. We agreed on 400 dollars a week. That is on the low end of the going rate right now. I thought it was more than reasonable for one child.

Dangity dang. I need to live where you live and take in some kids! Here, it's usually around $125, too. Glad you settled on a price!
