I'm attempting to make some cookies for Thanksgiving that call for royal icing. I've never worked with it and am finding lots of different recipes online. Does anyone have a good recipe they've actually used before?

I'll preface this by saying I haven't tired this recipe yet but really all royal icing is, is water and powdered sugar so I think you are gonna find most recipes are really really similar and this chick gave great tips and tricks!!! I'm planning on using it next weekend to make cookies for my son's birthday!!

I haven't done this for ages, so I can't remember the precise ratio, but it's like Elizabeth said, just sugar and water. I think my recipe said warm water and a bit of lemon juice, just to make it more interesting in taste. You should be safe with any recipe you use, IMHO.
ETA: Now I think about it, mine had egg whites in it, too. Anyway, of no use to you since I don't have the ratio.
