I can't wait! I just finished 4 and have 5 on my chopping list. I hope they stay true to the books as the series moves forward. I thought they did a great job with book 1.

I think they will. I was SO impressed with how closely season 1 stuck to the books. The only part that drove me nuts was Catelyn finding that blonde Cersei hair in the first episode...um it's Game of Thrones NOT CSI lol...but the rest of Season one was fantastic! I LOVE Peter Dinklage as Tyrion.

Martin has a lot of say in how the series is put forth so I think that helps too.. I know he's the man in charge of most of the screenplay writing.

I have a LOT of reading to do! I haven't even gotten through book 1 yet and would like to get through book 2 before season two begins.

I can hardly wait for it to start!

I want to see season one so badly, since book one was my favorite by far. I've been trying to read book four for a long, long time and it's just not holding my interest.

I'm sooo ready. I really thought they did a great job translating to the screen. I'm reading the last book now, I've been saving it

I'm soooooooo excited for this! I've pretty much plowed through the books in the last few weeks. Book was definitely a little slow to me too though Kate. I think mostly because it focuses on such "lesser" characters. It was a little weird to have 3 books of the same narrators, and then this other one. Book 5 is good though
I'm stoked to see what they do with season 2

Oooh - I have the books but I haven't had the nerve to start them. Lol. I have heard such fantastic things about them, I was too afraid of being disappointed. Now that I have all of your approval of them, I think I'll dive in.

I agree that book 4 was a tough read, I a hoping 5 is much better. If GRRW is writing screenplays, I think it will be true to the book. I have my hubby hooked on the books now, he is trying to catch up before the season starts.

I read somewhere that books 4 and 5 were supposed to be one book..but Martin's publisher insisted that he break it into two books b/c it was going to be just too enormous to print..so he opted to devote book 4 to mostly minor characters. Honestly I skimmed a lot of chapters in book 4.

Are these the books you girls are talking about?

I've never heard of this, lol, but I'm always looking for new books to read!! So from reading this thread, there is a series and books - and they're both good? Hope ya don't mind the hijack - I NEEEEED some new books to read... I'm actually considering the Sookie Stackhouse books, even though I have no idea what they are Just that I hear them mentioned on here a LOT.

Yep...they are awesome...and so is the series (on HBO). They are long books though..so be ready to tuck in for a while That's my favorite kind though.

I'm reading them on my kindle and at the end of book 4 there was actually a letter of explanation from Martin, lol. He just kept writing and writing and writing and he wasn't done and realized it was too much for 1 book. So he decided to split it up into the minor characters and the majors characters to offer some different perspective on the different story lines.
The only thing that kind of annoys me is that 4 and 5 are concurrent. But I think that's mostly because I'm so into the story I can't wait to see what is gonna happen, lol.
