Default ugh i hate the emergancy room

Seriously....so i'd been having some severe chest pains since saturday and they'd come and go at random times. well I called the dr yesterday for an appointment and the nurse said to get to the E.R asap. well i couldn't since jeff can't drive and i didn't want to leave owen with him. It went away and i just felt extremly nauseated so i slept for about an hour. then they started up again about 5pm and at 7 mom came and got me to take me to the e.r , of course it took bout 2hrs to see a nurse to do the blood pressure and temp. Then I didn't get into the room to see a doctor until 10pm. Then i tell him whats going on and he orders chest xrays and blood work. So we do the xrays and stuff no big deal then the nurse, he comes in with 6 vials to get blood from me......oh shit is all that is running through head. ugh i hate it because they have to use a certain kind of needle no matter what they think. I told him this and of course he said no he had to use a regular one. Mom was dying laughing because I was freaking out before he even got the needles out. I was sure i was going to pass out. I was sweating so bad and just freaking out (yes and i still can't believe i got my tattoo lol). of course after getting my arm tied and wiggling the needle in my arm....i was right. so he gets the small needle and sticks it in my hand to get 2 of the vials full and 1 half way while the rest only got 1/4 of the way full. ugh. but of course after ALL that I'm sitting waiting to hear from the results and my throat itches...no big deal til i look down and i'm COVERED in hives....ugh figures. so they give me benadryhl and they aren't getting any better or any worse and i wasn't getting to drowsy. so he rights me a prescript clarotin (yea its over the counter he was hoping the insurance would pay it) and says it's all stress related. then i go to get it at walgreens and the guy trys to be funny i guess.....dude it's 1am, i was jsut at the Emergency Room and i'm covered in hives, now is NOT the time to be funny. so of course i had to pay for the prescription and then he says i'm better off getting the off brand because well its cheaper and i can say 3 bucks which really wasn't for what i needed. so i said screw it and left. I passed out as soon as i hit the pillow and woke up to still itching so i'm getting the clarotin soon. what a long freaking night. gonna be just one of those weeks i guess. and of course the dr says it's just all stress related and to relax.......yeah i'm trying lol.

Dang girl! Take a chill pill! Giving yourself chest pains is nothing to joke about! I'm glad it's nothing serious and I hope you can get the Clarotin soon!

Wow what a night! I am glad that it was nothing serious! Hope you get the meds soon and you get rid of those hives! My niece gets hives all the time. They are certainly no fun! And I know this is easier said than done, but try not to stress yourself so much. Next time it may be much more serious! Hope you get well soon!

Are you telling me you went to the hospital with Chest Pains and had no EKG? That is nuts!

I'm sorry you had such an ordeal and I hope the hives and itchies go away soon!

Brandy that sucks big time. I hate those trips to the ER for hives. As soon as it starts spreading up my arms I get in the car (we live super close so I drive myself, I know I have about 15 minutes before I'm covered). I can't believe that's all they did for you. Every time I've been (and yours are much worse), they've given me two shots, benadryl, and prescriptions. The prescriptions were prednisone, ketorolac, and efexor. Efexor was more for the panic attacks I think- I usually have them along with hives. Maybe your doctor could write you a prescription for something to have on hand? Sounds to me like the ER didn't do you right at all. What a rotten day to have! Sorry Brandy! I Hope you feel better soon

Take an anti-inflammatory like motrin along with the benadryl, it'll help a little bit.

wow is all i can say! that is just horrible treatment as far as i am concerned! i am sorry you had to go though that. i used to get panic attacks years ago and that is what it sounds like you are having. they are no fun and can be scarey! they definitely should have told you to follow uo with your doctor or a cardiologist though just to be on the safe side. no ekg?? i am sure you are fine but if you can i suggest just go get yourself checked out... stress test, echo, etc...

i don't get them anymore but i think i learned how to control them really... when i start to feel panicky i immediately reassure myself i am fine and it all in my head and get up and walk around, get some water, fresh air, etc. it is amazing how if you just remove yourself from where you are, like if you are in one room but move to another, that feeling can go away. they have meds too of course. i hope i can help at least one person who might be going through something like that.

feel better!!!

Brandy, that totally SUCKS! If you still don't feel right TRUST YOUR INSTINCT and like others said, get some more specific tests.

And I hear ya about the smallest needles to take blood. I've had so many veins "blow out" on nurses and doctors, so many times they haven't been able to get anything b/c the needle was too big...
Now every time I get blood taken I INSIST they use a "butterfly" needle on the first shot. WORKS LIKE A CHARM! Apparently they don't like to use them for adults b/c they're more expensive than the larger ones.

What a night, I don't get the chest pain part though. I know all about the hives, I use to get them after exposure to extreme heat and itch uncontrollably. But chest pains?! That's pretty serious! I hope the doctors are right and that it's nothing to worry about.

Brandy if they're in your throat then you really do need to see a doctor sweetie. I cannot understand why they didn't do more for you in the E.R. I hope you are better soon.
