I have Windows 7 and I think I'm the only person who likes it.
![]() What don't you like about Windows 8? Are there a lot of changes, or just some really big, bad changes?

DH got a laptop for our oldest and it has 8. 8 completely sucks. There are shells you can install yo make it look like 7.

I love windows 7 too
8 is completely different to 7. Swipe pad - no proper start up menu. Things are so hard to find and toggling between , say email and the internet, is impossible as far as I can work out. I usually have about 10 things open on my computer at a time and you can see everything in the bottom tool bar with windows 7 ... not in the one though ![]() I suppose, like anything, you get used to it but I really do not like at the moment |

And yep, I love 7, too. I have the old visuals but new functionality and it's a nice system IMHO.

Shall I ask around, Rachel? I have some computer wiz friends, they might know how to make it look the old way, if such possibility exists. It might be worth it because 8 is faster, well at least it's supposed to.

Bummer! I thought it looked cool from the limited stuff I've seen about it. I have been looking forward to getting a new laptop, and it has 8 on it. Is there anyone that does like it? I'd love to hear that perspective too (if its out there.)

I just bought my Dad a new laptop for Christmas and it has W8 on it. I think though that I'll be taking it off and putting W7 on it for him as I don't think he's going to manage it

My sister just got a new laptop with Windows 8 on it. Based on reviews, I thought I'd hate but I've been playing around with it and actually found that I did like it. Once you get off the start screen and onto the windows, it looked and worked just like Windows 7 minus the start button. She was able to pin the programs she uses on the taskbar and toggle between them just like do on 7. Going to the upper right hand corner pulls down a menu where you can find your applications and such much as the start button did. It's different, things, are moved and if you're used to just one way, it's going to take getting used to but I didn't find it that different as I thought I would.

DH said they were just talking about Win 8 at work... one of the coworkers go a new computer for his daughter for christmas and was asking the IT guy about it - the IT guy was not a fan... as DH was overhearing this conversation, in his google reader there was a story from microsoft about how everyone loves win8...
DH had to get a new laptop a few weeks ago - he purposely got a refurbished one so that he could get Win 7...

Windows 8 may just be the reason why I buy a Mac laptop next year............ My mom upgraded to Windows 8 and paid full price for it. Within 48 hours she was trying to uninstall it and my dad said hell no. You bought it and now you have to live with it. She really insisted on having to have it.

Hmm... I have a Macbook for work and a PC laptop for gaming and I actually upgraded my Win7 to Win8 on that one last week, and I LOVE it! You can see all of your apps that are open by moving your mouse to the left edge of your desktop and switch between the internet and email easily there. I absolutely ADORE the start screen and all of the news and apps there. It's a gorgeous way to read the news and explore travel destinations, etc. I dont regret switching at all.

Win8 is great for mobile and touch screen, but for everything else its kind of meh. I got my new computer after Win8 came out and purposely only went with win7.

This is what I was going to say...that it's more customized for touch screen. At least that's what I had heard. I don't have it.

Well since my husband works at Microsoft we have two surfaces and he just loves Win8 the kids don't seem to mind so I guess it just takes some getting used to it. I haven't really tried it because I am completely satisfied with my Mac! GL Rach I hope you find something you like or that getting used to it is quick and painless.

I don't have it but I've seen it in action and I think that would be way too much of a change for me. I don't like changes in my computer stuff, lol. I'm still sticking with Windows Vista on my desktop and I love it (I might be the only one). My laptop has Windows 7 and I just can't get used to it, so Win 8 would totally freak me out. But I know, I know, you can get used to everything if you just try it out long enough...

The only Windows I have ever hated was Vista. I totally hated that system. And I love Windows 7. I have just bought a new laptop less then a year ago and it has a 3 year warranty so Im guessing Ill have it at least three more years.

I chickened out on upgrading. I have Windows 7, and after all of the bad things I have heard about 8, I just left my computer alone.

I'm still running Vista. I hate change. I absolutely hated the change from XP to Vista. Then we got 7 and I couldn't get used to it. I finally went back to Vista on my machine. We have 7 on DH's and the kids' computers. I have no desire to upgrade to 8 for now anyway. I might put 7 on my machine one of these days. I just get used to something and want to stick with it.

I personally love Windows 8, that is of course after I have gotten used to it! It does take time, just like Windows 7 did. Functionality & the apps are great!

My in-laws just bought a laptop with Windows 8 on it. I just warned them that they can't call us with questions or problems because we'd have no clue how to help them over the phone!

Microsoft has this bad habit of releasing things that are not always "ready" - in my opinion. So..my rule of thumb is to never upgrade my windows until I HAVE to. I love Windows 7 - just don't see a need for 8 when I still got issues with 7.
