Default kindle Paperwhite?

yay or nay?

I currently have my hubby's hand me down 2nd gen Kindle with keyboard... and my hubby has the Fire.... well, actually kiddo now has the Fire since hubby got an ipad last summer... Now Hubby wants the standard Kindle back because there are too many distractions on the ipad and fire that he isn't reading as much as he would like. I hate reading on a computer screen, so the fire and ipad don't work for me... He is willing to be me my "own" Kindle... so trying to decided on a regular kindle or the paperwhite...

Thoughts? Like the paperwhite? The reviews are some what mixed when it comes to eye fatigue and gray spots around the sides...

I love, love, love mine. I liked my last one too, I had the keyboard version and I had a case with a light and the lighting situation on this is so much nicer. For me the paperwhite is the the best of both worlds, the e-ink and built in light. There's a bit of variance on mine but honestly it's not at all noticeable when I'm reading. It's a nice size, light etc. It's one of my favorite "things".

Is the "backlight" on all the time or is that something that you can turn on and off?

I don't have a Paperwhite, and the 2 reasons are the lack of audio (for text to speech) and the smaller storage capacity than my Touch. I'm not sure how the capacity compares to the 2nd gen that you have. But if they come out with a 2nd generation Paperwhite that has those features, I'd get one!

We love our Paperwhites! The touch screen is much more responsive than the Touch we had before. The light is great too. You can adjust the brightness, and it turns off when your Kindle goes into sleep mode

I've been contemplating switching so this is a good thread for me to keep an eye on.
