Default Tell me about your master bedroom and bath

I am very lucky to have a huge master bedroom and connected bathroom, however, I struggle with keeping it from becoming a cluttered dumping ground for the rest of the house. I'm curious to know how others have their matser set up and what you think are must have things in your room.

Does anyone have a chair or stool they use when they are just out of the shower or want to sit for a minute to read, relax, etc for a sec? If not, where do you sit in your room?

I probably need to post pics, but that would require me to actually pick up my room and bathroom.

I greatly prefer a small, sparse, soothing master bedroom. I hate, hate a TV in the bedroom and refuse to put one in mine. I also can't stand dressers outside of the closet, so none of those in the bedroom. I also loathe knickknacks and decorative bed pillows, so none of those, either.

I prefer just a bed and 2 nightstands. Nightstands must have at least one drawer. We've tried a sitting area in the bedroom in the past, but it was rarely used and seemed pointless. Right now we have the bed and 2 nightstands and we've added a console/shelving thing I modified from IKEA. We put baskets in the various sized slots for storage. I like that it's functional and the baskets fill the entire slot, so nothing pops out.

A finished master closet is a must for me. It has to have shelves and drawers. It doesn't need to be the size of a bedroom, but it has to have an organization system. I don't like to have a lot of things, but the things I have must be in the right place.

The master bath needs to be large enough for two people to get ready at the same time, but definitely not huge. We have a stand alone shower in ours and I love it. I hate baths, but we do have a garden tub in the guest bathroom. We survive with one sink, but I prefer a double sink. If this weren't a rental, we would change that out since we have the space for a double.

mine is a dumping ground too... it's next to the kitchen and back door, so when guests come, anything that needs to quickly be put away, is dumped into the master. The bathroom is just as bad... the big whirlpool tub is just lost on me. I never use it... so it's filled with bags for Goodwill and clothes (my hubby uses it to drop off clothes on the the side of it).

Our master bath is huge for our house... love that... however, I think the master bedroom is bit small and awkward in usable space with having a king side bed. There is only two walls the bed can go on... either between the windows, or on one of the sides... either way, it creates narrow walk ways. I have big bedroom furniture that was my 18th birthday gift from my parents... the closet isn't big enough for both dressers, and one of the dressers holds the tv. (Sorry Jenn - the bedroom is the only place in the house I can go hid out and have me time)... and I do have a chair in the bedroom to read, but it always ends up full of blankets and pillows...

It is on the plan this year to decorate the master and bath... it still has the "eh" contractor beige paint and we want to swap the carpeting out for hardwoods and put tile in the bath... I'm excited to do that and hope that I can get the clutter under control, too!

I sit on my bed, lol. Last house had a sitting area and I never used it. We do have a chair next to our computer armoire, but I really only sit on it if I'm on the computer. We also have two dressers, two night stands, and a Queen size bed. No t.v. Our bathroom is pretty spacious, but I haven't added anything to it... Just the basics - tub (that I never use), shower, double vanity, separate toilet. My house is pretty much the opposite of cluttered, I just can't stand it any other way!

Our master bedroom is large with a connected bathroom. The bathroom has his and hers sinks and cabinets (mine is larger with 4 doors, DH only has 2 ), a stand-alone shower and garden tub, separate toilet area with door. We also have 2 closets with sliding mirrored doors - one is a walk-in and one is a wall. We keep all our clothes in there, no dresser in the bedroom.

The bedroom is my haven. We have double doors into it with a decorative shelf at the entrance; a king-sized 4-poster bed with nightstands and chest at the foot of the bed and a large TV where I have my own DVR. There are 2 large windows and a decorative useless arched window above one of them. The room is on the south side of the house so I keep those window covered with sun-blocking curtains and we never pull them. We also have a 9 foot 55 year old Ethan Allen sofa that we inherited from my MIL when she passed away. And another side chair and side table and jewelry armoire.

It also becomes a dumping ground at times, mostly with clothes. So while it's nice, it's also messy a lot of the time. The walls are a light olive green and the bedding and accents are browns and greens. Not my favorite, but it's all DH and I could agree on.

If you can keep it clutter-free, a little sitting area is nice in the Master Bedroom. I have a comfy chair with an ottoman in the corner of the room and I use it a lot to read and get away for quiet time on the iPad. It's right next to the sliding glass doors that go out to the balcony, so there's lots of natural light. One of my favorite places in the house. I have found one thing that helps the room not become a dumping ground is to clear out the clutter that builds up once a week, and regularly (daily) putting away clothes helps. I also have a habit of making the bed every morning, which makes the room feel clean and I am less-likely to let it become messy.

We have a walk-in closet with built-in storage and shelving, but it's still not quite large enough for our clothes, so we also have an armoire. I am against TV in the bedroom (we only have one TV in our house), but it is a battle I have to fight constantly. DH is the type who would happily fall asleep to the TV on every night. I personally think it's annoying.

As for the Master Bath, we have a smallish one with a stand-alone shower and 2 sinks which is great. I would love a big soaking tub, but I can use the one in the kids bathroom so I don't complain about it too much.

We sit on the bed, too. Our master bedroom and bath are small. We have a Queen bed, a dresser and night table for each of us, and that's it. There's probably room for one chair if we wanted it, but not a whole sitting area. One of these days we want to convert our closet into a walk in, but that will make the usable space even smaller. DH magically manages to keep his side spotless. My side usually has a basket of clean laundry waiting to be put away, some new clothes for the kids that they're not ready for yet, and assorted other things waiting to be put away. Our bathroom is too small to be cluttered or used as anything other than a bathroom, just a shower, sink, and toilet with enough space for 1 person.

we had a crazy big, long master bedroom, with a sitting area we never used. So when my son was born (and we needed my office to become his room), we put up a 3/4 wall with an arched doorway and made it into 2 separate spaces - the bigger area is still the bedroom and then there's a small office, separated by the wall. When the kids eventually move out, I'm thinking I'll convert the extra space to an exercise room so I don't have to look at the treadmill that currently resides next to my bed.

I have a master bedroom on the smaller side, so no seating area. Basically, there are double-doors leading in and right in front is a the bed with nighttables on either side. There are also two dressers - one near the entry door and one near the door to the master bath.

I don't hang out in my room very often so I don't need a seating area. If I'm going to read in the daytime, I'll read on the couch in the living room or rec room. If it's at night, I'm snuggled in bed!

Mine is a dumping ground and I'm cool with that. lol If anyone is coming over to my house (without at least a few days notice) I tend to just throw crap in there so that I don't actually have to clean-clean, I can just do a quick vacuum and dust of the rest of the house.

My room is big with a walk through closet into a bathroom. I hate that walk through closet, impossible to be clean and you can't close it up. Ugh. But for my bedroom, I am trying to keep it simple in hopes not cluttering. I am a clutterer by nature. I have my bed, two night tables, a dresser and I plan to put in a small chair in the corner.

That's BEAUTIFUL, Sheri!! I'd love that, too! I really especially love the wall colors..beautiful serene choice!

Our master bedroom is small and our bathroom is even tinier. So I am no help because we have a tiny closet, 2 largeish dressers, a queen bed & 2 nightstands and the whole room is full to the brim. (We came from a house with a large master bedroom, walk-in closet, & decent sized master bath so we were spoiled!). I'm kind of pining over Sheri's now.

I think Sheri's bedroom is larger than my whole flat. We don't have a master bedroom so I'm obviously no help, but I like to live vicariously through y'all with the big American houses.

Oh Sheri....I love your bedroom and bath. Extra bonus points for it being so clean and tidy!!! I'm jealous!!!

I have a sitting area in our room, but the couch always seems to catch clothes that need to be folded. So I often sit on my bed if I need a place to rest, but when you are still wet from the shower this is no good. Our bed is so high off the ground so you either have to get all the way in or stay out. There is no sitting and putting your feet on the floor- mine just dangle there.

I'm working from home today so while I do some calling out to check on offices I'll probably clean my bathroom and then post a pic so hear what you ladies think would work in there. I feel like there is a lot of unused space!
