Another Back Up Question
I can tell that my desktop Mac is about to die. It's five years old -I'm not sure what the life expectancy is.
I have Crashplan but thankfully haven't had to use it before. I'm wondering if I also need to buy an $85 EHD to use as a Time Capsule or is Crashplan enough? I don't want to have to repurchase Office or CS5. Thanks in advance |

I would definitely buy an EHD and back everything up via Time Machine because downloading everything via Crashplan will take FOREVER. With the EHD you can be up and running right away.

I am in the exact same boat as you. My disk utility is telling me the hard drive is failing. I bought an external drive last weekend and used time machine to make sure all my data is backed up. From what I have read I think office and CS5 will transfer over with the migration assistant, but I haven't bit the bullet and replaced my machine yet.

My hard drive is getting pretty old too. I do have an external which I use to back up my photos, documents and digi supplies, but I always worry about those files which aren't kept in the usual spots. The ones which you don't realize are in an App Data file until its too late!
