hi girls, how are you? im venturing out into hybrid but i had a quick question about adhesive...

i see that some people use mod podge... and some people use xyron adhesive... whats the pro's and cons to each? what do you use? and why?

Thanks for your help!

In my mind, Mod Podge is primarily a sealer, althought it can be used to adhere. It's messy and not nearly as easy to use as xyron. The xyron is like a sheet of plasticy glue that adheres to the back of the product. Mod Podge has to be brushed on.

For hybrid, depending on the project, you are going to need lots of different kinds of glues and sealers.

I'm sure someone else can explain it better than I did.

I use Tombow double sided tape for general adhesive, but if I'm altering something I use Mod Podge both to glue the papers down and over the top to seal it.

It depends on what you're doing. I prefer not to use mod podge, but if I am working with a painted surface or with wood, then I will use it. Pretty much anything else I use my Tombow tape runner, red sticky tape, or xyron. I also use foam pop-dots, and various types of glue dots.

thanks for your response...
so you suggest i use the xyron to adhere (i bought the 2" runner...) and then mod podge over it? how many layers of mod podge?

mainly for board books and chipboard i'd like to know what to use

Thanks for your help!

Use a tape runner or xyron to adhere paper to chipboard. If you want to seal it, use 1 or 2 THIN layers of mod podge over it. If you're in a humid client though, I don't advise using mod podge. It gets sticky again.

Some ppl do use Modge Podge for adhesive, but I don't. The only thing I ever use MP for is for sealing a project. Otherwise I use the Xyron runners, or TomBow ones.

MP can be frustrating (in my experience). Nothing is worse than having a project totally finished, only to ruin it with MP. :cursing: If you do use it, try a sponge brush and do it in 2 very, VERY thin coats. Put a tiny bit of MP on the brush and use long strokes on the project. I use so little MP on each coat that sometimes on the first coat there are spots without MP. My theory is that you can always add more, but you can't remove it!

Good luck! Let us know how it turns out!
