I got the portrait bundlefor Christmas & I'm itching to get started using it.

Tell me what I should buy or link me up with easy starter projects!

My first projects were Christmas ornaments but obviously that isn't timely anymore. ;) What kind of stuff are you interested in making? Greeting cards? Home décor? Hybrid/pocket scrap supplies? I searched the Silhouette Online Store for shapes that looked cool and got them with the download credit that came with the machine. I think most of what you find there is going to be pretty easy to make. My first ones I just did on colored cardstock because I thought print and cut would be complicated, but honestly, it's not! So just pick something and go, I say :)

Pick some of your fav digital elements and do a print and cut. It's my favorite feature to use with my Portrait.

My first project was mustache and lips on sticks for a bridal shower game. Now that the shower is done I'm moving on to vinyl this weekend. I got some great clearance items after Christmas at Target (gold trays, silver flasks, and a champagne cooler (silver). I plan to try to customize those.

What about some kind of Valentine project???

I am going to try vinyl too this weekend - been putting it off for a few days but they are Christmas gifts and um yeah we are a bit past that. :o

There are a couple of Silhouette FB groups that focus a lot on vinyl; All things silhouette and Happy SIL for example. Great places to get inspiration and ask for advice.

If you're interested in HTV and rhinestones you should check out Bling craftography, also on FB.

thank you so much - I have joined a few fb groups bu I I will look at the ones you mentioned. For the Happy SiL - I thought I read this was a closed group and they are not accepting any other members. Do you know about this? I could have gotten it mixed up..... :)

I just checked the Happy Sil group page and there are new members added, so I don't think it's closed. You might need an e-mail invite though. If you PM me I'll try to send one and we'll see how it goes.

What kind of things should I purchase to have on hand? Like just to play around with.

I got the chipboard and really like it. It's pretty thin but you can easily cut two of the same design and layer if you want it to be thicker.

I don't have them yet, but I really want to try the printable craft paper and the printable sticker papers. Oh, and the dubble sided adhesive to use with glitter

You should really get some extra blades and mats before you NEED them. You need a new, sharp blade for cutting intricate designs, for simple designs you can use a less sharp one.

I also got a Silhouette for Christmas and love it!!! Kerri Bradford has some great resources on her website including some free cut files....
