Cutting template help for bucket

I've never done anything hybrid before, but I picked up a couple of buckets like the ones below the other day for my daughters room. I would like to cover them with a one of my papers. Anyone have any advice on how I can create a cutting template for paper to go around the side? Is there some way to create one based on the circumference of the top and bottom? TIA!

I'd just get some newspaper and do a template with that first. Once you're happy with that you could scan it or maybe just use it like a dressmakers pattern for your good paper.

Being an engineer and automatically a nerd, another way to do it would be to measure the diameter of the top, and the bottom. Make circles of those diameters, center them on top of each other, and the space between the outer edges of the circles should be a perfect fit for the sides of the pail.

But that's a super dorky way to do it, lol. You could put the pail on it's side, and roll it around in a circle tracing the line. But I'd probably just use a lighter more flexible paper, like the newspaper someone suggested, to get a good fit and use it as a template.

Ahhhh now this I can do. Thanks so much (from a fellow nerd)!

You can also use measurement tape (the one for seamstress, because it's so flexible and quite accurate) to measure the top and bottom circle.. :)

I always tape two pieces of printer paper together to make it long enough to fit around the bucket, wrap it tight around the bucket, tape it in place and use a craft knife to cut along the top and bottom edges of the bucket.....in other words, make a template like the others mentioned. I use the template to trace onto the paper I'll be using to cover the bucket. I can't even understand the whole "lining circles up" thing :confused:

LoL, the math nerd in me totally understood what you meant by putting the circles together, and I knew why it worked. Here's more nerdiness for you:

If you don't have a tape measure, you can use the diameter to find the circumference of the top and bottom.

Circumference = Pi(3.14) x the diameter...now that's nerdy

OK... I thought I was a nerd, and perhaps I still am (yes, I am), but just not as nerdy as Aaron! LOL!

I JUST saw those buckets at archivers (A scary place for a digital girl new to real paper and stuff) but I'm broke until tomorrow...
:thumbdown:

Oh those buckets are SUPER CUTE - I can't wait to see your finished project. I think I would have a difficult time with this one. lol
