..cut out their own chipboard shapes? I would really like to try my hand at making those chipboard word albums, similar to the ones that BoBunny makes. I found a great site where I can order sheets of chipboard, but I need to know what is the best way to cut it?? Any suggestions???

I know that there are a couple of girls on here that cut their own, so I hope that they reply to this!

I've cut my own albums twice and it took me FOREVER. I'm sure that if I did it more often, I would get faster - and neater, since they were very "homemade" looking. LOL.

When I did it, I freehand drew the shape onto one piece, then cut it out and scanned it in so that I could use that as a template for my pages. I used that one to trace other shapes, and then cut them out. Like I said, I think if I did it more often I would get faster.

I have actually found some templates ( freebies even, IKEA GODESS) for those word albums so it would make cutting them out easier. You can also type it out and print it very large too. My only suggestion would be to use an exacto knife with a NEW blade for cutting and a straight edge metal ruler. Good luck and I hope you show us your results, I too want to try but have not had the time yet!!!!

I'm curious to see the responses from ladies who have done them, because I've been wanting to try one of the word albums too, but it's a little intimidating.

Could you use something like the Cricut? I think it cuts chipboard and up to like 5 or 6"!

I haven't made any shaped chipboard albums of my own yet, but I have cut circles from 12x12 sheets of chipboard to make my own round albums instead of using CD's. Those were really easy to cut (I've done 5 or 6 of those I think) and I just used my CM circle cutter to cut them out. I did recently buy the Cutter Bee Retractable Knife but haven't had a chance to try it out yet. But I imagine it would be good for cutting the shaped chipboard pages!

I cut my last one out but I cheated and did it while I was at work so I used a scalpel....but for the templates I just printed it out and did my shapes from there

Strong hand muscles and a very sharp exacto craft knife. I've cut chipboard loads of times by hand. Just take it really slow and you'll probably get on better if you do several cuts along your drawn line as opposed to one deep cut, you have more control then. A metal ruler is a must as the exacto knife is really sharp and cuts slices off a plastic ruler

Yep, I've done it a bunch of times. I have a lot of chipboard from my days of teaching at the LSS and getting it for free so if I don't have the album shape I like I print the pages and use one as a template to make the album. I use me cutterbee scissors to cut them. I also have a sizzix and it will cut thru some thin chipboard for shapes.

I have with my Cricut Expression (the original Cricut won't cut chipboard, but the Expression will). I've also cut chipboard with my Sizzix but you are limited to small shapes of the dies they have with that. Here are a few chipboard projects cut with Cricut:

Cut the "bracket" shaped background on this one .

Cut the chipboard letters to spell dd's name in this one.

Just realized I used the same photo in both projects. The nice thing about cutting chipboard with a die cutting machine is that you can then go and cut the pattern paper or cardstock you are covering the chipboard with the EXACT size to fit over it - makes is sooo easy to cover!
