From paper to hybrid

Hi Ladies,

I'm new round these parts, but I just wanted to pick some experts brains if I may ? :)

I'm a paper scrapper finding myself drawn to the hybrid side of scrapping. I'm using more and more digital elements in my paper scrapping as I love to be able to manipulate and alter the elements myself.

I just have a couple of questions -

- how do you print out your elements/papers etc? Do you print to cardstock or photo paper..?

- how do you store your digital downloads so you know what you have?? this is probably my biggest problem - I'm running out of storage space and keep forgetting what I have downloaded

Thanks ladies
:)

Hi Dee!! Welcome to digi-land!! I've never paper scrapped, but I'm slowly trying my hand to hybrid!

I can't answer your first ?, but for the second one, I think many of us have an EHD (external hard drive) and back up regularly (on DVD or whatever), that's probably the safest way (especially for photos, you don't want to lose those, right?)

Hello Dee. I was/am a paper scrapper and cardmaker and discovered digital stuff last summer. I love mixing the two together and it's highly addictive!

I print mainly on inkjet presentation paper that I buy from the local office supplies store, it's 160 gsm so lovely and thick and it doesn't soak up the ink so the colours stay fairly true to what I see on my monitor. Occasionally I use photopaper if the colours I want to use are really quite dark.

I save all my kits onto my external hard drive and I've created folders for each store I buy from. I set aside time every now and then to flick through the folders to remind me of what I have and I also back up to DVD in case I lose them through technology failures :(

I am a true digital scrapper, but I do some hybrid. I haven't really printed out too much yet, as I am just getting in to creating chipboard albums and such.

I have a folder for all my Scrapbook Supplies. Within that I have a folder for templates, a folder for each store I buy from and then I have a folder for things I may download for free and where they came from. Right now, everything is on my Macbook, because that is all I use if for, but I know I will eventually need to get an EHD. I figured out how to change the icons to preview the images of what is in each folder. Once suggestion I have so you know what kind of goodies you have is to make a contact sheet with all of your kit previews, etc. Print them out and put it in binder, that way, when you are shopping for supplies, you can grab you folder quick, without having to peruse through the stash on your computer or EHD, :)

Hope that helped a little, :)

First of all, WELCOME DEE!!!!

- I print my layouts and hybrid projects on a Satin photo paper. It's kinda between a matte finish and a glossy finish. I don't get fingerprints and it dries really fast!

-I store my downloads on an external hard drive. I have my downloads first organized by store, then designer. BUT.... I have a catch all folder that I call, "NEED to USE". This is where all my new stuff goes so that I don't forget about it!!! LOL

well, i print a ton of stuff myself..and do it on cardstock..just regular...and then cut it out and ink it a lot..but if i don't print it myself i have STAPLES copy center do it and they do an AMAZING job..everything that they have printed for me has been awesome..perfect and crisp!
