ok now what do I need

lauren grier

you're like stars
:D

So... I just printed out my last layout (I love my printer :D :D ) So.. I want to stick stuff on it (hahaha) and make it all pretty. So I need something to seal the paper right? That modge podge stuff? And a hard back for it.. They make 8X8 things right? of course bits to stick on it.. that I can figure out LOL.. Is there something better than modge podge? I know people have posted that it's messy and a pita (which will make me never want to try to do something EVER again :D :D :D )

do you have a recommendation ? LOL I've seriously never looked at that sort of thing :D :D I'm going to be walking up and down the aisles aimlessly tomorrow :D

Don't ask me, I haven't even printed one yet, but I think you're brave LOL! I want to try hybrid, but I wouldn't even know where to begin with that stuff!

LOL I have a VERY good feeling this will be my one and only try at hybrid stuff :D :D I get frustrated way too easily LOL

Krylon makes a good spray. I think they make it in matte and shiny. They should have whatever you need in the Scrapbook section at Michael's. If you go to a JoAnn Fabric store it should be in the same area but a Hobby Lobby type store it may be somewhere else!!!! Good Luck with your adventure!!!! You could also just save time and put them in page protectors too!!!!!!!!

You can go to any art store (even Michael's , I think) and look in the basic art/painting supply area and they will have a finishing or sealant spray. I know Krylon makes one that's not bad. If you go to any art store other than M's, the store staff will know what's best.
I've used the Krylon for my special projects (like stamped dominoes, decorated tiles, stamped projects and artwork), and most art teachers recommend it. My only suggestion is to use it in an area with ventilation, but it's actually quite easy to use.

woo thanks girls :) I'll prolly go to Michael's... tbh I don't even know where/what/etc any scrap stores are around here :D BUT I know michael's has gobs of stuff LOL

La what are you doing with your LO exactly? Are you going to frame it/put it on the wall?

You could try looking for an art canvas to stick it on. I haven't tried it myself yet, but I'm going to soon. It'd give it a little more presence/dimensioon than "something hard to back it with it" :p

I put mine on canvases with modgepodge..I've found any other kind of sealer and adhesive isn't enough staying power...just use a paint brush and don't apply it too thick!

LOL hey my descriptions are fun :D :D

I dunno what I'm going to do with it.. It will prolly just end up living on my desk for a while. I want to but some tied ribbons on the edge.. cause, that always looks cool-- but I'd guess if I frame it, that wouldn't work :D :D :D (As you can see.. this hasn't been thoroughly thought out lol)

So which is better? Matte or shiny? I was thinking a matte like finish- I dunno how much I'd like a slick super shine on the page-- I might as well have printed it on photo paper then right?

so.. the modge podge stuff is glue too? Can I stick the bits on with that too.. or do I have to get that special scrappy glue stuff?

Well that's what good about the canvases, you don't HAVE to frame them, they look great just hangin on the wall. :) The tied ribbons look great I bet.

I'd go for the matte finish, otherwise it'll get the glare from the lights/windows. Like Traci said, just use a paint brush and brush a coat on, keep it thin and you'll be a-ok. :)

Yes mod podge is both a glue and a sealer. I  it, lol.

I'd use glue dots or maybe hot glue for the ribbon bits.

I prefer brisly too. You can get a huge pack of brushes for like $3 or so usually. All different sizes and kinds in one bag. I use em til they just don't cut it anymore, and then throw em out (but I also tend to wander and forget to clean the mod podge off the brush, lol).

It's all part of hte process :) I have several unfinished hybrid projects awaiting me, come to think of it, lol.

have you seen this cool hybrid project?

I've been wanting to try something like it. I went so far as to buy a small canvas and jar of modge podge. And that's as far as i've gotten. That was over the summer . . .

Lauren,

Whenever I do my chipboard albums, I just use my Xyron Cheetah Runner to putting stickies on the back of the paper and then a stick it to the chipboard. (Which they sell at Michaels) No problems whatsoever. If you are looking to "seal" it and have a finish, then Mod Podge is definitely the way to go. I've used both, but for all my BG albums, I just use my Cheetah.

You can see examples on my BLOG.

Good luck!

Susan what's your secret? I've tried using my Xyron (510 I think) for various projects, but the adhesive always gets stuck on the sides and makes a mess. :(

Mimi that's SUPER cute! I totally want to do something like that now, lol.

Well, because I use the Cheetah Runner, the stickies only go where I run it. KWIM? I have Xyron 950 and I would have the same problem. I would always get stickies on the sides and stuff just because of how the machine works. With the Cheetah, it is just like a big roller.....so you just put the stickies where you want. In fact, sometimes I reoll the edges just to make sure they stick down good enough.

If I had to Mod Podge every page of my albums, that would take me forever. But if, I was going to give the album away or want it to come out really nice with a matte finish, I might mod podge it.

Mimi i love christine's project and have been meaning to try it as well. Glad you posted this Lauren, cuz now i know what i need when i try to do a project lol.

Hybrid stuff is so neat but I so suck at it :p From the little collage pages, clipboards, etc. I made back in high school I always used mod podge.

I started my keychain album thing today. I used a liquid glue called Zip Dry and it worked great for my little project. Col is my go to hybrid help girl. LOL
