Scrapbook Album recommendations

Hi everyone,

It's been many years since I've done anything with my scrapbooks and want to get back to documenting my stories. especially because my youngest son is about to be 13 and he's the only one of 4 that has no scrapbooks made. I have a bunch of layouts printed in We R Memory Keepers 8x8 ring albums but I'm having some issues finding 8x8 ring albums now. I do see a new 6x8 size... and of course the 12x12 but i have some of those big ones and feel they're a little too big.

if you print your layouts - what albums are you using?

I do 12x12 Ring binder albums mostly cause I always have. I print the layouts at Persnickety prints when they ahve a good sale a few times a year, but am pretty behind on my printing too. I then put them in page protectors & into the correct album for that year. I did make the decision to print bound books for everything after 2021, but considering I'm still working on photos from 2017- it'll be awhile before I finish enough of 2021 to print a book! ;)

I am in the process of organizing my layouts... and i do have a credit with Persnickety from way back in the day so that was a nice surprise. I have a lot of scrapbooking to do and am so happy to be jumping back into it after so long. i think i want to stick with 8x8 albums. I have about 10 of those and only like 3 of the 12x12 books

I print (when I do, I'm very behind) 8x8 albums at Shutterfly. I love when they do their flat rate sale. I am incredibly behind in printing albums. I have mostly concentrated on our big trip albums lately.

Each of the girls (I have 4) have said they would be happy with just random photos in an album, in chronological order, but not necessarily complete albums. I think I may do this for each of them for Christmas this year. Especially since 2 of them live full time in another state and one is going to college in another state.

I have done Shutterfly books as well. I do really like those. I am taking an inventory of which layouts I've done and HAVE printed. and I know I need to scrapbook a lot of pages of my youngest. I guess I should work on filling out the albums I do have now and then worry about what to do later lol

I do this (but in the 10x10 size) for both sets of grandparents for Christmas. I just save any finished layouts from the year and order them during whatever extra pages sale pops up in the fall. I do put family specific layouts in each book so they are both slightly different i.e. a page featuring my in-laws wouldn't be in my parents' book and vice versa.

Welcome back to scrapbooking! One of the best things about this hobby is that we can go through cycles of making pages and not, and it's always here to come back to when we're ready.

Like Amie, I use 12x12 3-ring albums by American Crafts/We R Memory Keepers when I print individual pages. I do bound books for albums with a defined beginning and end, like a wedding or vacation album... but for most of my layouts, I print them at Persnickety (buy print credits when they're on sale! NSD, DSD, Super Bowl, and Black Friday are the big dates to watch for) and drop them into my albums.

If you're wanting to stick with an 8x8 format, you might want to look at the Pioneer brand of albums. I bought a number of their large 3-up photo albums some years ago, and the quality was outstanding. They offer 3-ring 8x8 albums in a small handful of colors; if you are willing to use post-bound albums, they offer a broader color selection in that style.

I hope that helps - and welcome back!

The books I have now are We R Memory Keepers and I do have some post bound ones that I had put expanders into but I think I want to go the ring bound. Especially since I will be scrapping very much out of order. I'll have to look into American Crafts to see if they have some albums similar to my other albums.
I have a long list of Shutterfly books to do too! Now I just need to stay consistent with making my pages!

3-ring albums are DEFINITELY the way to go. I've tried moving pages around in a post-bound album, and after the 3rd time of opening the posts to shuffle around the page protectors, they wouldn't go back in properly, so I was stuck removing layouts from the page protectors individually. It's soooooo time consuming, and I'd much rather use that time to create new pages!
