What's your May been like?

Our May has been super busy! I started with a Mother's Day tea at our church followed by Mother's Day the next weekend. We had some soccer games, two high school graduations, two graduation parties and one eighth grade graduation. Also, I keep our almost four year old granddaughter two to three days a week depending on her mom's work schedule. How has your May been? Will you have a busy summer or a laid back summer?

LONG! Husband is unexpectedly job hunting, kiddo has a bunch of doctor's appointments and therapies, and there's not much else doing for us.

I'm hoping for a productive yet laid back summer. I'm hoping to start the next school year early since it's already "dangerous UV index and temps in the 90s" outside so we can take January off and go on field trips while we have cooler days. But my mom is a teacher and wants to relax over the summer. We're trying to find indoor adventures but there aren't many that won't be overrun by summer camps. I already got a head start on reorganizing the homeschool shelves since we definitely need new/more shelves for all the books. (One collapsed under the weight of planners and the IEP binder and I feel that in my soul.)

I spent the first half of May sick with what I thought was COVID, but my test was negative. I had the same symptoms as I had before when I had COVID in 2024, so I was really surprised to get the results I did. My physician prescribed antibiotics and a steroid pack, and that's what finally got me out of the spiral. I am SO VERY GRATEFUL to not be sick anymore!

It's been 3 months since my spinal cord stimulator generator/controller was replaced, and I'm now thinking more clearly and definitely have a lot of pain control over the chronic back pain issues.I am so glad I wasn't dealing the uncontrolled pain while I was sick with the sinus/respiratory infection. In the past, adding physical issues on top of my chronic pain just put me out of commission.

I pushed through and continued to design and create layouts, so May has been productive for me. We celebrated Mother's Day on Saturday instead of Sunday. It was a lovely time having my children with me. We ordered in Chinese so no one had to cook or clean up.

My sister turned 50 this year, so we had a nice dinner and gave her presents. She is the executive director for the Area Agency on Aging of Northwest Florida. There has been a lot of stress on her so she just wanted to have a low key birthday. She had a great time.

I've been cross stitching while watching old movies as well as watching Breaking Bad with my DH. I've also created a lot of spreads for my Happy Planner as I know the remaining half of the year gets super busy and I'd like to have the spreads all done and pretty so I can just start on each week.

I've been doing some organizational things around the house in the past week, and I feel a lot of satisfaction and joy in that. I've been going through my art and craft supplies and giving them away if I'm not using them. I've just been stacking new art/craft purchases in folders or containers as I didn't have the energy to put them away in order. But I have too much stuff that I have not been using and it's time to let that stuff go to Olivia or my great niece or my niece for her classroom. Olivia took a lot of pens (Inkjoy pens in a variety of colors as well as some Arteza brush pens that I took from my mom's art studio after she passed away).

May is always stupid & super busy for us- but especially this year with a senior in high school & all the graduation things added in. Oh and also I managed to get a massive sinus/ear infection & needed a course of antibiotics to finally feel better. Just in time to put together a grad party & stay busy so that I don't think about my baby girl being all grown up. ;)

May always starts off with a bang as we have 4 family birthdays (though one lives out of state) in a week span that ends with Mothers' Day. This particular May has been extra busy as I prepare for a big trip with my mom (leaving this Friday!) and my oldest has tons of schoolwork & online driver's ed classes to complete by the first week of June.

It will be a medium-busy summer, I think? My oldest will get their permit & actually start taking lessons with an instructor while my youngest has a couple of short camps to attend. We have a 5-day family vacation in July that should be fun, and the kids have a day trip planned to a semi-local amusement park with some friends in August. Sprinkled amongst those bigger things will be our usual summer activities: strawberry u-pick, trips to the beach (bought our summer pass today!), FOJ fireworks shows, a couple of outdoor concerts, and plenty of badminton family tournaments after dinner.

May has been a rollercoaster ride.
We started with a wonderful car trip to a northern province during the Labor's day holiday, then we were busy with life, work, school events and school trips for the kids.
In between, we planned and booked our summer holiday for end of July, as well as a long weekend mother-daughter trip to a nearby city next month.
Everything was all good, happy and positive until yesterday afternoon... The kindergarten Michelle goes to has suddenly announced that they are closing at the end of this semester and the kids are to be taken over by the public kindergarten nearby. Lan & I are still in shock and, meanwhile, trying to weigh the option of moving her to another school (with astronomical tuition fee...).
Sigh...

Praying for your husband as he is job hunting. I know how stressful that is! I hope you can find some fun indoor things to do and that you have a wonderful summer!

I am so sorry that you were sick but am thankful to hear you are doing better now! I have been praying for you and your back. I am so glad you are feeling better!
I admire all the beautiful cross stitch pieces that you have shown! You are so talented and creative!
I think it’s wonderful that you are sharing you arts and crafts supplies. It’s good that they will be used and enjoyed by fellow crafters. It always feels good to share something that makes us happy to make someone else happy!

I’m so sorry that you have been sick, Amie! I’m glad that you are feeling better now. I know how hard it is to see your child grow up and go off to college. Hugs and prayers!

Wow! It sounds like you have an amazing summer planned!❤️

Oh, Sherly! I am so sorry to hear about Michelle’s kindergarten closing! I will be praying for you as you seek the best place to send her. Can you see if any of the schools offer scholarships or help with tuition costs?

Earlier this month I had an Echo to verify the TAVR valves were still working correctly. It had been 2 years since the last Echo. All is good. I also had the heating contractor did a maintenance check on my heat pump and getting it ready for summer A/C (that I don't use much).

The local tour company I use had a preview meeting for a couple of 2027 trips so I went to that one evening. Came out to a downpour and even though I had a raincoat, I got soaked! The raincoat is so old it doesn't repel rain anymore! Paid my deposit for one of the trips that night. Hawaii in March 2027, here I come!

My friend that does IT work came over to fix some issues with my Ring cameras. They are working great now. He came back a couple of days later to make sure it was all working correctly and then spent some time on the computer. One small issue I have, he can't figure out why it is doing what it is. It has him puzzled and he is going to do some more investigating. It isn't anything that causes major issues and it only happens on one website. Funnily enough I don't have the issue on my laptop for that website which is why it is puzzling to him.

Tomorrow the dog gets groomed, I have to go buy a new dishwasher (mine stopped working on Friday). Thursday night I have 2 meetings at the same time. Genealogy society monthly meeting and a "get ready for your trip" meeting. I'll be going to the trip meeting and if it isn't too long, I might be able to catch the end of the genealogy monthly meeting. And, now that it is just 19 days away, it is time to start getting things together for the trip. I leave June 14th.

Thank you very much for the prayers. I have EXCELLENT pain control right now with the new stimulator generator/controller. I mean, there is still SOME pain/discomfort, and I still have to be careful about my activities because the stimulator only blocks the pain signals to my brain and doesn't fix the underlying back problems, of which I have many. But I am so very grateful that I was able to have the surgery and be in such a better place to actually ENJOY my life.

I have so many cross stitch pieces that I need to have framed. I do my own framing and matting for the ones that are a normal size, but so many of the pieces need to be custom framed because they aren't normal sizes and it's a lot of $$$. But after all the time I've invested in them, I need to keep saving money to have them framed.

Your cross stitch pieces are gorgeous and will be family heirlooms for years to come!

I just started a larger cross stitch project this month. I've had the pattern since the early 90's. It is 1 of 6 in a series called the Storefront Collection. I did 3 of them back in the 90's. There was a local shop that sold needle work supplies (embroidery, cross stitch, knitting etc) and they also did framing. I had the 3 framed by them. I had the forethought to have them make 3 more frames of the same size for the other 3 patterns in the series so they would all look alike when done. I've had them all these years. That shop closed down many years ago. Now that I'm working on shop #4, I've looked to see if there are framing shops in my area. The only ones I can find are Michael's and Hobby Lobby. The framer at Michael's doesn't go in to work until after 3 p.m. so I've never been able to ask if they would frame something where I supply the frame. I want to talk to them in person and I always do my runs to that town in the morning early afternoon. I also can't imagine Hobby Lobby would do it. Both stores want to sell their products. So I don't know what I'm going to do to get it framed.

Otherwise, for smaller projects, I don't mind doing them myself.

I bet these projects are beautiful! I'd love to see photos of them!

May has been busy. We didn't do much for Mother's Day, but I did get to talk to each of my kids which is always a treat!
Our house is finally in escrow after 75 days on the market. It's a relatively short time for this type of house, but it felt like FOREVER! lol Getting the house ready and tons of stuff to storage, having to keep the house "showing ready" and leave at a moment's notice, not to mention getting my 85-year old MIL out of the house has been challenging.
My brain has been absolute mush.
Today we're starting to look at new houses and this weekend I'm packing up more stuff!

Less busy than April, but busier than a normal month! There has been a lot of running around/moving this month! Moving my 3rd oldest to KS, helping move my 2nd oldest's fiance into what will eventually be their apartment, moving my youngest home from College for the summer!

Aside from all that, car shopping, back to work for my husband and girls, it has been more normal!

We ran around so much, that when we got back from KS, we thought for sure we had toilet paper and other items. We had to go out at 10pm to buy some, since we didn't have our normal stock pile!

Are you moving out-of-state or staying there?

We call it May-cember here. Busy, chaotic, and crazy. Until the last week when we are between all activities. Which is similar to that week between December 25 and January 1.

Our May was super busy with lots of stuff with our grandkids and nieces/nephews. We had birthday parties, middle school musicals, high school band concerts, an end-of-year theatre banquet, a dance recital, and a high school graduation.

That doesn't include nearly daily doctors' appointments for me and a bonus stomach flu this last week of the month.

I totally understand what people mean when they call it May-cember!

We don’t do much in the way of extracurriculars and this isn't a milestone year... but it's still busier than lots of other months. Mother's Day, teacher appreciation, field day, domain showcase, lots of birthday parties. Busy, busy, busy!

I'm sorry to hear you had the stomach flu on top of such a crazy busy month! I hope you are feeling better now!

We're staying in ID for at least the next 2 years. We're either renting or buying a smaller new construction home. David really wants to stay in ID. I'm open to moving out of state. lol
I'm hoping we'll be able to travel & explore once things settle down and then when the timing is right, make the decision for our "forever home".
