Weekend Warm-Up | LCW with a Twist - Win a $25 Gift Certificate!

We only have window units and fans here, too, @aussiegirl, and the older I get, the more I can not handle the heat! So while I love the plan-free Summer days with no school, I dread the hot & humid days where I will be stuck inside. I guess those will be scrapping days!

On a totally different topic, is anyone else having trouble with the C & C challenges? My brain just doesn't want to function properly and I am just having a hard time coming up with ideas for these. I made pairings already of things I may be able to come up with ideas to scrap, but maybe it's my age, I don't know, but my brain just isn't "connecting!," LOL! It took me forever to come up with things to scrap last month. In April, I didn't scrap at all because of spending so much time in the hospital with my Mom.

This is super interesting to me because I think this system is one of our easiest ever, but maybe the "open to interpretation" is like a decision paralysis thing for some people?

I'm always open to feedback so if you have ideas or thoughts on what would make it easier for you to accomplish, I'd love to hear them. Different types of words on the left, more specific prompts, etc. Let me know if you do!

I usually try to make the challenges work for my photos I need to scrap. I scrap chronologically, so I just go through my list and see what I can do. I like that it's open to interpretation, makes it a bit easier. Sometimes it's as easy as using the words in journaling or the title. The upside down really got me, because I was like why would my photos be upside down...but then I came up with an idea and ended up really loving my page.

I say sit with words and let the speak to you...something will come to you. You got this @3BluEyedBabies !!

What time is your normal wake up time?

I usually don't rise and shine (and shine might be a stretch somedays - lol) around 8:30 - retirement is the best! Ha ha!

Some of the prompts can be more challenging. Sometimes I change up the words a little bit. Like this month "degrees" I am taking off the s and using it as a college degree page. Sunsoaked, I used more as sunkissed. Sometimes I google what a word means, to get different versions of the word that may work better in a page. A lot of it is thinking outside the box. I write down all the words in my scrapping notes at the beginning of the month. Then I have the words to think over throughout the day or when scrapping, I can just look at the overall list and maybe see if I get an idea! Good luck! Be creative! Some months "speak" better to me than others, so do what you can!

Wow didn’t even realize it was already Friday tomorrow. It’s night here’s and kids are ill so they stay at home and I forget wich day we are. Lol!

Catching this late, but fun!
Weather is just hitting actual summer feel here, so for now I'm happy about it, but crossing my fingers it doesn't get to hot and humid...
My Dude has 2 more weeks of school. I'm enjoying those because once that's over I'll be losing an hour of my day getting him back from camp. But my parents, who usually visit in the fall, arrive Sunday... So wish me luck participating in challenges and even in the forum, free time is about to become a rare commodity

I'm a bit with you... my brain just can't make the connections. As much as I love the challenge idea, it's just not working for me, nor does it spark my creativity/inspiration. I've mentioned this in the May LCW thread as well.
At first there are so many options to choose from, plus you have to connect left with right... It seems easy at the beginning, but then I begin to doubt myself: 'what if another connection would have worked better? What are the right connections for me? What if I pick a way to scrap with one word, but find out at the end of the month that this way of scrapping would have worked better with the final word?
Well, I could go on. I also struggle with the meaning of some of the words. Like we had the word 'Curate', I really had no idea what this would mean... so I had to Google it and found out it had to do with museums, or at least that was the way I interprete it.

Maybe it would help (me) if I don't have to use every word and every method of scrapping just once. So as long as you make 8 or 15 connections, you can use a word multiple times (with a different scrapping mode) or the same way of scrapping with different words.
So if I look at this month some of us are not into scrapping with brushes/stamps, but could use the 'nothing but circles' for 2 different words. Since I'm going to Disneyland Paris next week, I could use the word 'Main Character' for 2 layouts about Mickey, but scrapped in a different way.
I hope this makes sense. I know it's not completely what you had intended for this scrapping challenge system. But for me it would work and it wouldn't feel like I have to scrap the challenges, because I want to keep up. I have to admit that I love the layouts I created the last few months, I just didn't enjoy the process of creating them. I just missed the spark of inspiration and creativity that I had found in other challenge systems (or at least in the majority of the prompts).

I hear you! Once school is out I will have even less time to scrap!

Today is another busy day. Chaperoning my 5th grader’s field trip to the science center!

5:15 am lol

8:30 is sleeping in for me, I haven’t slept that late in years

This all makes sense! I haven't done the full amount of challenges in quite a few months, so I don't worry too much about how to use all of them (and definitely not up front), so I basically star ones that I know will be easier or work more with what my scrapping style is. I do not assign them all up front. I start with one, and just move on from there. If I get an idea, that is what I work with. There are just some that don't work as well, so I leave those ones.

I do like the idea of having a few extra prompts in case they just don't line up correctly. Maybe 2 or 3 extras to make it easier. As long as I'm actually scrapping, that is a win here! Good luck!

Also, I am here waiting for the Scrapathon challenge to drop and just realized it's only Friday! Its a day off from school today, so it felt like Saturday! Can't wait to see what it is tomorrow!

I also have struggled with the connect & create challenges. I think the decision paralysis is real. I am a very linear thinker - I prefer concrete choices rather than endless options.

I'm excited for the scrapathon though =)

Hello ladies. Summer is slowly sneaking up on us in Greece. I can't stand the heat. I stay in, as much possible with my AC blasting. So far the heat hasn't hit yet, but they're saying this is going to be our hottest summer. Personally I don't believe them, because I've noticed when the winters are very cold, then we have very hot summers. This year winter was mild for North Greece. So I think it will be an easy summer, I hope so. My favorite season is Autumn and then Spring, with all the blooms everywhere, the birds chirping and the trees turning green. I hope I'll be able to participate this summer with the games and challenges.

May and this last week in particular have just flown by. I am finally back from my daughter's house - I spent 6 weeks there helping out with my grandson and the new granddaughter while she was recovering from her C-section. I mostly loved being there to help out, but it reminds me that I am perfectly happy being Nana and not having to do all of the parenting things - it is exhausting

I have mostly liked the Connect and Create challenges. I like having options and being able to combine them the ways I want rather than having to do a page 'someone else's way' 😜
This month's set of words aren't sparking as many ideas out of the gate for me for whatever reason. Hopefully ideas will come as I sit with things more now that I'm not on school drop-off/pickup and babysitting duty full-time.

I'm in So Cal and its like warm, 10 months a year. I have accepted it by now. But I have so many cute jackets, I never get it wear here!

I guess those will be scrapping days!

They are harder for me then the other challenges especially last months but it pushes me and gets pages done so .My old brain needs the push 😞

Just had a dinner date with my hubby and 7 year old grandson. It gets trickier as the grands get older and you have to come up with things just so they hang out with you. We had a fun time though and starting this next week he is on summer break and his parents work so he has one day a week with me that I will be "babysitting" I'm looking forward to spending more time with him. When he is in school and has after school activities he is so busy.

@Romajo, I'm glad I'm not the only one having a problem "connecting", LOL! While I do love a good challenge, I also want to make meaningful LOs, too.

@Robin Carlton, I love Romajo's idea of having a few extra prompts! No matter what, I will continue to push myself to get the challenge LOs done, and I'm so grateful for the inspiration I find here at the SS. It really is like therapy for me, especially during tough times.

Honestly, I've been through a lot the last few months with the unexpected loss of my mom, and then the joy of watching my daughter graduate college, while also struggling with some of my own health issues as I'm getting older, and I wonder if maybe my brain just needs a reset.
My daughter and my aunt are going to the beach for four days and I'm hoping that will give me a little bit of time to just stop and BREATHE! I kind of wish I had a laptop to take with to scrap without distraction, but I will definitely be taking pictures to scrap when I come home!

@porkchopsmom "my old brain needs the push..." LOL! Love this so much! Mine too!

So sorry for your loss, @3BluEyedBabies. 😢 When I lost my father almost 2 years ago, scrapping was my therapy, so I hope you can bring those memories to live on your pages as well. On the other, some new and fresh memories to scrap from a happier moment, might help as well.
When I turned 50 last april, I wanted to have at least one photo with my mother as well (I got a surprise visit from Mickey Mouse and he was taking group photos as well). And although my mom doesn't like to be included in photos, she realised I wanted that memory and the photo, so she joined me and my sister for a photo.

I love the idea of just a few more prompts as well, instead of the 15 we have now (and where I suggested that you can use a prompt more than once). Some just might not work for you as it might do for others. And I still like to have the endless choices on one hand, I just can't to seem to wrap my head around them and start making the connections. I have the feeling I like the summer warm-up challenge for this week more, even though it's not an easy one either. I think it's because it gives me a little more direction and go from there.
