Default The Polar Express

can i just say, that i love this movie? it's so magical! i always tear up at the end, lol, when he and his sister can hear the bell, but his parents can't 'cause they don't believe anymore. but he says that even when his friends can't hear it anymore, he can still hear the bell.

its kinda sad that as you get older you lose that innocence and stop believing. I try to see the magic of Christmas like how my kids see it. To them its just a wonderful time. makes me wish i was a kid again.

oh, and Tom Hanks is awesome, even in an animated movie. Fantastic actor. i love his voice.

i just got goosebumps from your description! i absolutely love the polar express! i was telling maddie the other day (cause she doesn't believe anymore) that i still believe in santa!! like i honestly believe with all my heart the magic that christmas brings and to me santa and believing is bigger than a jolly man in a big red suit. i really do believe! she thanked me for still believing and said she wants to see christmas that way as well and then she won't have to feel like she's lying when she tells her brothers that there really is a santa...LOL!!!

I have a special spot in my heart for this movie too. Of course, I've been a bit desensitized since it is Tristan's favorite movie EVER! We watch it year round so I've seen it about 9 billion times LOL!

We love it, too - and made bells for the boys 2 yrs ago to give to them as soon as the movie was over and you could just see the relief in Connor's face when he could hear it.

We bought the 3D version we're going to sit and watch together tonight - can't wait!

Am I the only one who thinks the animation is creeeeeepy?! I think it's a wonderful story, but I hate the way they animated it and it's really hard for me to get past that.

I love it also BUT after hearing it for the 7th time this week it is getting on my nerves. My youngest is obsessed with it and is sitting in a trace right now watching it.

Pixar animation is amazing, clear and with astounding attention to detail... realistic without a creepy need to look almost human yet not-human. Computer generated, yet doesn't scream "I'm computer generated!"...it has a beautiful sense of classic animation to it. TPE animation is fugly computer-generated schlock that screams "looky, I'm computer generated!" That they felt they had to make it look almost exactly like the actors makes it all the worse imo. It looks kinda like them, yet soulless and lifeless. *shudder* It's such a beautiful story, and I think it's a shame it wasn't done by someone else.

Moi? Never!

I love me some animation... so I hate it when they mess with it and get it all wrong.

Ooh I wanted to say, I used to find the animation completely creepy too. So I can relate to what Joan is saying. But it's grown on me and the story trumps the creepy factor for me now.

My kids love this movie so much that I had to create a "tradition" around it. In order to not go insane from hearing it ad nauseum, we only watch in on Christmas Eve now. LOL!

And Joan, the animation is extremely creepy!!

I think it's a great story, we have it on DVD but haven't watched it recently so we'll have to get it out. We saw part of it when it was on TV the day after Thanksgiving though. Kaylie's 1st grade class is having a Polar Express Day on the 17th, they are going to be doing activities based on the story, having hot chocolate & watching the movie!

I agree. Very creepy and dark-looking. The book is dark-looking too but not creepy.

I love t he animation - I think it's spectacular, really. The only part I find creepy are the kids' eyes...just a bit off.. But I like that it's not a happy go lucky movie - they kept some of the not so nice from Chris' book.

Oh no, don't get me wrong, I'm all for keeping the dark aspects of the story! That's not what bothers me about it at all.

I've never seen the movie, but love the book. The grand canyon railway does a polar express every year and I am determined to get my kids to it sometime in the next couple Christmases.

We are currently wearing out copy number 2! I bet little dude watches it at least once a week. After Christmas last year it was several times a day, but he's a train boy so I think that's the main appeal.

Embrace the creepiness Joan!
